TROY GETS A Reprieve. (Not a stay)

Edited on Wed Sep-21-11 07:12 PM by Gregorian
Just saw this on Democracy Now live feed

Edit- second person confirming on the feed.

Second edit- Troy's lawyer is not confirming that there is a stay. UGH. We better hold off on the excitement. I'm sorry to have
posted too quickly.

Third edit- Confirmed by Troy's lawyers- Troy has received a reprieve.

Phew.

I'm going with punked. Or just wishful thinking. Everything I just checked shows he's still scheduled for his government sanctioned dirt nap tonight.

The Supreme Court has HELD and not STAYED the execution.   Updated at 7:50 PM

THey have held the execution until they decide if it should continue. That hold can last minutes or hours. It is not a decision to stop the State Murder of an innocent man.

2. That poor man, can you imagine what he is going through right now?...n/t

He is getting a better deal than the man who he murdered did.

Fox has it on their breaking news banner. It's been delayed pending the Supreme Court reviewing the case.

As I type it is 7:28PM EST.
How can you update from a time that hasn't come around yet?

Sorry for being so ignorant, but who is Troy Davis and what did he do to get the death sentence?

Killed an off-duty cop in Georgia who was working security. Found guilty, sentenced to die. Naturally, he proclaims innocence and of course he would never tell a lie, so DUmmies believe him and raise hell. The usual.

Why can't they just do a firing squad then?  Why is this an issue now?  If people really cared, wouldn't they have been out on the streets from the moment he was found guilty... if he wasn't?

Just noticed this happened in 1989.  No wonder I don't know the case.  I was in preschool.  If there were witnesses, then kill the cop killer already.  I feel bad for the family of Officer MacPhail.

The DUmmies think they're on a first-name basis now?  "Troy"?

I wonder if MrScorpio's meter ran out yet.

The case against him consisted entirely of witness testimony which contained inconsistencies even at the time of the trial. Since then, all but two of the state's non-police witnesses from the trial have recanted or contradicted their testimony.

Was this before or after the 2008 appeal?

I sincerely hope the USSC lets this go through.  I want to see the gnashing of teeth and wailing of sweet DUmmie tears.

Maybe Georgia will not only give Troy a stay but maybe they'll let him out then he can go live on the ranch with Nutty Beth.

She's over on the DUmp acting stupid again.

She sure knows a lot about death row.  Okay, thinks she knows.

don't think of it as an "execution." Think of it as an "extremely late term medical procedure."
