Those beautiful old gas stations.......
A trip down memory lane... (http://rootsgpk.blogspot.com/2009/01/those-beautiful-old-gas-stations.html)

When I was a kid we had an old fashioned Texaco station that was ran by an old man and his wife. It had two pumps, but only one was used at a time. It was also an early form of convenience store.

I don't remember seeing any old gas stations like that when we moved here. There are still the old bait shop gas stations once you get out of town but even those have electronic pumps.
We also have "nuevo" gas stations that sell a different kind of gas...

Every now and then we've run across an old tumble down station out in the country on a leisure drive. Some of those Convex pump signs have been intact for the most part. Running across this piece of America warms the heart as does those photos,
I hadn't been driving long when attendants became a memory along with gas under a dollar a gallon. A lot of guys got their first jobs in gas stations back then.

The most beautiful thing about those old gas stations were the pumps with meters that only went to 99.9.................

From the link...
In the next picture, notice the kid jumping on the bell hose.
YOU ever done that?
Yes, yes I have. Now add another candle to the birthday cake, why don't you.

Saw the old hand pump gas pump. When I was kid there was one station left with the old glass top, gravity feed, gas pump. I would stand out front and hope someone would stop so I could swing on that long handle and pump the gas for them... :-)
OK, so it didn't take much to entertain me back then... :rotf:
