Good god...when Dems won a special election in a GOP district, no big deal...

Now that the GOP won one in the district of a serial creep, it spells the end of the entire Democratic party, AND the president. BTW, why does Peggy Noonan get paid to spout her assholier-than-thou bullshit? Who does she work for, and why?

2. That northern NY district that hadn't gone Dem since the 1800's.

8. A special House election made the papers on the other side of the pond?

Pretty effectively answers the OP, doesn't it?

9. Not really . . . it didn't get much play in the U.S. press.

If it wasn't for the UK Guardian we wouldn't know what was going on in this country.

13. Really?

It not only was covered, but it was spun as evidence that the tide was turning back and that using Medicare as an issue was a winning strategy for Democrats... that Ryan's plan had already cost the GOP one seat.

Actually, what happened was that the Republican party in that district was split, and the Democrat emerged as the winner with a plurality, not a majority, of the vote.  Ho-hum.

5. Welcome to America since Ronaldus Maximus..

Didn't Nooners have some kind of affair with a publisher to start her career?

Or am I confusing her with some other talentless hack?

7. Well, dems won the special election in May 2011 when Obama's poll numbers were better

You do have a point though and perhaps you're right. The scary thing though is that Obama's poll numbers were much better in May 2011 than they are now. His approval rating could be the deciding factor. Although there were a number of other factors that could have determined the outcome as well.

http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/14/for... /

These numbers contrast with a May special election in New York’s upstate 26th Congressional District, a Republican-leaning seat where the Democrat, Kathy Hochul, won. Her 5-point victory margin represented a 17-point Democratic swing from what would be expected from the district under average circumstances.

Ms. Hochul’s victory should not be forgotten about, as it’s a sign of how volatile the results in individual elections can be, and how rapidly the political climate can shift. That election was held at a time when Mr. Obama’s standing was relatively strong in national polls, following the news that Osama bin Laden had been killed.

10. It's only one election in one district too

Does it occur to these President obsessed pundits that it might be about that district? They make everything about the President.

11. That was discussed here on DU and elsewhere. Not sure what your point is. We watched the results airc and cheered for the Dem at the time.

So, I think you just missed it.

Uh huh.  The Polaroid Kid just missed it.  Pedro Picasso does that a lot, missing things.

Typical DUmmy logic, if the dem wins it was because of 0bama, if the dem loses, it had nothing to do with him.

This DUmbass is right but for the wrong reason.

Yeah.  Dan Rather's and Walter Cronkite's lies didn't do democracy any good.

The best Dummy spin in recent memory was after the Scott Brown victory to occupy the "Kennedy" seat.  Everything from Marsha throwing the election to the Repuglicans stealing it, but absolutely no mention of the Kenyan even though he was still enjoying high approval numbers.
