A few observations and questions this Saturday Morning...
We are the only first world country that still uses the death penalty. We have the highest prison population among westernized, first world countries.
We are the only first world western country to not have single payer health care. We have the most expensive health care system and the worst record when it comes to mistakes. I'm just wondering if anyone cares about how this makes us look.
Our old reputation was one of a Superpower.
Now, all we have become are greedy, selfish, hateful bastards. The rest of the world now sees us as dumb, fat, ignorant and entirely uncaring about anyone outside our borders. We are waring, egotistical and morally superior.
I HATE us. If I could leave, I would. If I had the money to move out of this absolutely nasty place, I would do it in a heart beat. My husband's family comes from Germany. I'd love to move us there.
What are you thinking about this morning?
Sounds just like the primitives on Skins's island.

1. Can I go to Germany with you?
I still have some relatives there. My first choice would be Canada but it's very difficult to get in there.

2. My mother has distant relatives in Canada. Wonder what it would have been like to live there.

3. ...about the gentle rain falling outside - and how it's gone from 80s to 50s...and...how my retweets of Dem/liberal opinion pieces (Krugman, Reich et al) drives my Twitter followers away each day.
my usual daily thought is marveling at how happy our country seems to be with mediocrity (or worse), despite so much potential - and how the unemployment numbers will ever reverse - and the vicious cycle we are in.

4. It will reverse.
There will be a revolution. It will be as violent as the plutocracy makes it. And once we get rid of capitalism and fascism in the US, our economy will be like nothing anyone has ever seen.

5. I'm increasingly aware of how the shit has hit the fan and our entire world is going to see some...
...serious changes in the very next generation.
Maybe not in my lifetime because I'm in my fifties, but very soon.
Water shortages and food shortages, strange weather and economic crises.
Peak oil, all of these.
Humans have run out of global resources to exploit and all this talk about fracking and everything constitute the last gasps of an overconsumptive population.
Still, babies are cute and kids need to learn and families love one another.
And nature is beautiful and there are things that make us smile and love.
That's what I'm thinking about most mornings!

6. This is true.
It was over 100 degrees for about three months this summer in Oklahoma. In London, it did not get over 65.
I live in the wrong place.
I am craving a simpler life. And this country is not where I want to live it.
Maybe not Germany, maybe Norway. Maybe Sweden. I'm just disillusioned this morning.
Racist. Doesn't want to move to a brown or yellow country, only a white one.

Rubber Duckie, I can plink a prairie dog at over 400 yards with an AR over iron sights. Best if you keep the "revolution" in the cities, don't go "revolting" in the woods or on the prairies.

That I have to see. A prairie dog killed at 400 yd. without some serious optics is just a shooting accident.

Yeah....I was gonna comment on that.....with my Ziess 6.5-20 x 50, I could do it, but with iron sights, I'd be lucky to hit within a half a block at that range........

At least, unless that person happened to have lived in the Ukraine or Belarus during Stalin's collectivization attempts, or in China during the Cultural Revolution, or in Cambodia during the time Pol Pot was in charge...

One only has to motor about 100 miles south of Key West to see how that worked out......

For 50 years I've wanted to visit Cuba. But I also didn't want to do it until Castro and the communist were gone. Looks like the old bastard and the commies are going to outlive me.

This is a hoot as deer and moose hunting comes up.
This is or was cow Hampshire, it has been awhile since I have driven down a back road, seen a farm and the herd of milk cows painted on both sides with the word COW.
This started years ago when the Mass. hunters came up here to hunt. Local folks hunted all seasons for what was allowed, but the city folk came up just for a 3 day weekend of hunting and boozing.
This gave way to the locals approaching these mighty hunters and offering to sell them a deer so they could keep boozing yet have something to bring home to the wife and kiddies. ---They could get a motel, hire hookers and find a card game and still drive home with a dead deer tied to the fender.
This was the time as a teenager I was taught how to Jack Light a deer. Back then 4 men giving $50.00 each or total of $200.00 for a dead deer meant 2+ months rent for a apartment.
At that time a good car cost about $2,000 so 10 deer would pay for that, what the Hell it kept the drunks out of the woods, and we had no worry about them shooting our cows or into our homes.
Just a short hop down memory lane, but I know human nature and this is still done all over the country. Tenn I came across this still being done in 1988 and as the economy keeps going down, this will again raise its head.
Today, Maine and New Hampshire moose hunts , by lottery only licences. $50.00 to buy a ticket, if your number is called, one can sell that ticket for $5,000 to a rich hunter that wants a Moose head on his wall.
Some crazy Pita folks need to rumble about the woods and figure out how to paint COW on the sides of the Moose.
