Electrical rates?
My daughter just called upset. Her light bill went up from $200 a month to $350 a month. It's not just her. The whole town is paying that much. It will mean the loss of their home. No way can she afford that.
The most I've ever spent for electricity is $135.
It made me wonder what other people are paying.
Lose her home? Why would she lose her home ?
Obama said energy costs would rise. Suck it up and pay it like we all do or go without.
Ours was high too but it was hot and if I couldn't afford it I'd keep it on 80.
I don't see any offer from Mom to help.
-
My electric bill doubled after the Democrats snuck in a bunch of taxes a few years ago.

I don't understand why they are upset.
I grew up without air conditioning. And I hardly ever use it, now. Only on occasion to make sure it still works.
I get by without going over $100 in combined Electric/Nat Gas evey month (actually it averages around $60).
If the cost of heating and cooling are pushing you to the edge of bankruptcy, then you had better survey all household expenses and see what you can cut back on or do without. Adjust the thermostat. Better yet, get a digital, programmable thermostat. Close off the HVAC vents in interior rooms and unused rooms. Ditch the cable or sattelite tv. And the cable internet. Buy generic groceries. Combine car trips to just a single one per week.
One thing I've learned over the years is that life is simple.

So are DUmmies. They "simply" can't survive without government.
-
I get a little thing with the bill every month that shows how my electricity use compares to other homes and my own use in the past. Well, my home beats the most efficient homes...I used less this year....and my bill is up about 60%.
Thank you lord Obama for showing me the light....now hold it over this way.
-
Did they not hear 0bama say that under his administration electricity prices would necessarily skyrocket?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlTxGHn4sH4
"The regulations will cost money, they will pass that on to consumers."
My guess is the DUmmies didn't pay that any attention, or they thought that consumers meant rich people.
-
...and I get aggravated over a $90 level-payment plan.
EPA and DoE are incompatible with AC and light bulbs.
-
You DUmmies can thank deregulation for that as well. Guess where it started? Blue states.

"Under my plan electricity rates will necessarily skyrocket"
B. Husein Obama.

B. Husein Obama.
Yep....they brought this on themselves by voting for Obama and the Dems........did they think that when Obama said "you can build a coal-fired power plant if you want, but it will soon be bankrupt".....meant that would apply to everyone else but them?
The vast majortiy of electrical generating capacity is coal-fired, and when you have the country run by a bunch of "Global Warming fanatics", this is what you will get. There is no free lunch DUmmies, you are getting exactly what you asked for......
Just to rub it in DUmmies, here in "red-state hell", my township has its own clean coal powerplant, it's exempt from much of the regulation, and it is non-union......and I'm still paying a nickle a kilowatt-hour for electricity.

1. $140.
And it's just me, those freedom-hating CFL bulbs, no laundry equipment, no dishwasher, no big-screen TV and Blu-Ray. I do rock the hell out of the air conditioner, though.
I figured we're now paying 11 cents a KwH. Was 5 cents just a few years ago.

3. Usually about fifteen bucks. Sometimes as much as twenty five.
That's just me. I don't care much if it's hot, and if it's cold I put on more clothes.
DUmmie dimbear has used a jeweler's bit to drill through the glass casing around his meter, and pinned it with a piece of wire.

DUmmie sinkingfeeling gets in a status symbol shot in an electril bill thread.

8. This apartment ( with 3 other roommates ) last month was about $260 something
three of us have AC units in our rooms and have tried to use them sparingly, but when it is 90 degrees in your room, you just can't sleep at night. That would roughly be around $50 a person, and still it is way too much..
I think someone needs to reign-in these electric companies, but they seem to be untouchable.
Three window units running "sparingly" (65 degrees on a 90 degree day), and coming up with a $260 bill? This DUmmie fails to mention the kilowatt/hour rate they are paying, but it's Big Electric's fault his bill is so high. Surely, it couldn't have anything to do with King Putt using the statist thumb to squash any new power plants or anything. ::)

9. I live in a mobile home with two A/Cs.
One is in the back bedroom and one is in the living room. They are on 24/7 during the summer and my bill has never been over $100. But wintertime is a different story. My furnace has not worked in years, so I use space heaters. My bill averages $135 in wintertime. But it averages out considering that it costs $300 to fill up my propane tank and the furnace just sucked up that gas.

11. My electric bill is always high...
every month 300-350. I just replaced my heat pump with one that's supposed to be more energy efficient. I keep my heat at 68-69 and my air at 75-76. My bill this month was almost $500 and I had the air off for a week. I swear they're cheating somewhere. No way my bill should be that high. Nothing I can do, only one electric company.
My husband works a side job just to pay the electric bill it's ****ing ridiculous.

12. $200/mo on budget billing.
If this is what I think it is, only a DUmmie could fall for such a stupid idea, so I admire the utility companies for doing it. Around here, we call it "Level Pay": http://www.cityutilities.net/resident/pmts_billing/levelpay.htm

gas takes its place.
air on electric. heat on gas.
i was excited my water bill mid 200's this summer barely watering yard and not very green and healthy. winter will drop to 50, 60
Someone explain to me how you can not look, and yet also know what you are paying.
Around here in Red State Hell SW MO, we pay what amounts to around 8.5 cents per kilowatt/hour.

Oops. Somehow, I missed this one. Thank you to whomever merged it. :thatsright:

All these DUmmies are contributing to global warming. They should shut off their electricity.

They should stop exhaling CO2 while they are at if they really want to reduce their carbon footprint.

We a lot to cool our apartment in the summer. It's just a two bed, two bath apartment. The most we ever paid was $250 in the summer. It does suck. We never paid that much in Phoenix, but Bush was President when we were living in Arizona.
Our skyrocketing rates have nothing to do with Obama saying that our energy rates would necessarily skyrocket. None at all.
-
I think we have to consider where most of these DUmbasses live.......in the deep blue urban areas for the most part, and if not then at least in the blue states.
When we lived in NYC, Con Ed was charging us 21 cents/KWh for electricity, due to lots and lots of taxes and regulations, plus the union labor (that was in 1989, Lord knows what they are charging now).......as I mentioned here in our community the rate is 5 cents, but then here there are no "low income" subsidies, or "free" electricity for Section 8 housing as there is in NYC.......someone has to pay for all of that insipid liberalism......and for once they have to.
Instead of bitching, they should be happy to pay their "fair share" to help out the "poor and underprivledged"...plus supporting union labor.

Here in the South, we had 120 degree days and no rain for months. Unusual weather but you expect it to be hot in the summer months so you adjust your finances.
We tinted the windows last year, combined with blinds and heavy curtains, it helped keep the heat out. I even hung a light blocking shade on top of the blinds in two rooms that get the afternoon blaze of heat. Amazing how much that helped.
We topped out at $235. Air running non stop last month. I am not complaining. I keep my unit on 77 during the day, 72 at night.
If you don't try to minimize the heat, you will get a high bill.
I still don't understand her losing her home unless she's short on rent or behind paying.
I know the date my meter is read and how much my bill will be a week before it arrives. Maybe her daughter needs to sign up on her power company site to track her usage. That air conditioner eats up a lot of energy but you gotta have it. The heat here will kill you.
-
You know, I wish I had a good mole. This is the perfect time to compare electric rates with taxes.
Now on to something that blew my mind;

Holy Jeezum Crow! One of my jobs is to manage a small water/sewer utility. Our minimum water/sewer bill is $25.50. I have watered my yard this last month every other day with a built in sprinkler and my bill was $85.00! I think it is time for us to raise the water rates!!

I do not know if the windmills off the coast of MA are operational yet but the rates start out at 27 cents per kw and go up to 33 cents. Mine is 7 cents. Suck it up, you liberal jackasses. I put in Pella windows last year and my bill in big B.R. is less that 80 bucks per month.

7 cents per kwh
The difference between bogus "green" energy, and the real world.
It's pleasing to see New England "progressives" pay the price for their ignorance, as long as they keep it there.
Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people. Plug in to that algore juice, DUmmies.

I am paying some of the highest electrical rates in the country, and I can still manage to keep my bill under $175 with five people in a house with all electric appliances.
Granted, oil is going to destroy me this winter with 1--no prebuys available, 2--current prices are $3.50/gal, and they tend to climb as the season goes on.

I'm pretty sure Texas is off. My parents pay about 9 cent per KWh and I know our rate in CA was over 15 per KWh.

That might be the base rate. Yeah, I know all about the 35 cents per kWh you're paying at the top tier in CA, but also consider that munis like LADWP and SMUD are paying lower rates. That figure you see is an average.

Their ate is their rate no matter how much energy they use. I hated the tier deal in CA, we always paid the highest tier.

The map must be way off. I don't pay attention to KWH rates, but I burn far more electricity here in red state hell, with a much bigger house and eight or nine months of AC usage, than I did up north, yet my electricity bill is significantly lower.
Maybe it's those aftermarket gears I installed in my electric meter.

The only electric stuff we have is lights, cable all inclusive, [TV, PC. phone land line] -- kitchen fridge, freezer, washer dryer, dish washer stuff on counter we unplug after use. Oh yes the electronic kitty litter device. Cost $80.00 a month.
What I wonder about is if as we close off the rest of the house in the winter if we can heat with an electric fireplace the 800 square feet we use, bedroom, living room, dining room and kitchen and bathroom for less then the cost of Propane at $300-$400 every 6 weeks.
Then there is the question about the Propane, this summer we used it for the stove and hot water heater.
6 weeks and the bill is $180.00 ------WTF-----
We are being made bankrupt by these crazy costs.
-
Their ate is their rate no matter how much energy they use. I hated the tier deal in CA, we always paid the highest tier.
I honestly don't know what I was saying here.
-
We do the level pay plan wherever we can - electric, propane, etc. We also set it to pay a little more than used. That way we usually end up with a surplus. Right now, we've got about $1100 balance on our propane account so that'll more than cover us this coming winter.
We also deduct anticipated utility, insurance premiums, savings account transfers and such from the monthly pension/SS deposits when they come in to the checking account. The balance is the monthly living expense.
...just a couple of budgeting gimmicks...makes life easier.
-
I honestly don't know what I was saying here.
Problem with CA was, the baseline would vary widely. When we moved from a 2 BR apartment in HB to a 3 BR house in Fountain Valley, it was a grand total of 2 1/2 miles away.
The baseline was about 15 percent different. Go figure. And yeah, the baseline on the house was ridiculously low (something like 300KWh in summer.) Basically meaning if you ran the AC when the Santa Ana's were blowing in August, you were pretty well ****ed.
-
I used to pay about 75 a month for electric, now it averages 135. It's easy to explain--I've added two large fishtanks and three air conditioners (they never all run simultaneously though). Good thing I got rid of my dryer and switched over to CFC bulbs, or the bill would be even higher. There are a zillion tips for lowering your electric bill. Unfortunately this involves sacrifice or compromise, not something I've seen anyone at DU comfortable with.
If this DU person paying is paying $300 she's either living in a poorly designed McMansion or she's just an idiot...or both.
