Texana Hollis Eviction: 101-Year-Old Detroit Woman Evicted From Home After Son Fails To Pay Mortgage
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/13/texana-hollis-...
I’d like to think that we are a nation that overwhelmingly favors cutting a woman—a woman who has lived for over a century!—a break. Yet, as I write this, I’m already hearing the howling from the Teabilly contingent: “Tough luck! Why should I have to pay for her property taxes! Liberty!†These are folks who cheered for the death of a 30 year-old uninsured sick man. Surely these folks don’t care about a little old lady in Detroit.

Fortunately for Ms. Hollis, the government—yes, the evil Freedom-sucking government—took pity on her and decided to help.
Helping Texana Hollis, 101-year-old woman evicted from her home

HUD spokesman Brian Sullivan told The Detroit News on Wednesday that the department would pay the taxes, remove the padlocks from the doors and let Texana Hollis return to the home.
“We were absolutely thunderstruck when we understood that a 101-year-old woman was put out of her home,†Sullivan told the Free Press.
Sullivan said the department has told family members that Hollis can return to the house as soon as she is released from Henry Ford Hospital, where she was taken after the eviction.
Warren Hollis said he and his mother were “overjoyed†at the word from HUD.

You should be steamed kpete.....After all this woman or her son failed to pay their taxes....you know, the ones that pay for schools, roads, social security, and your likely drug habit.
Which party is it that runs Detroit again? I think it has a jackass for a symbol.

2. tax or mortgage? confused nt
PS all evictions should be banned. People need to live somewhere.
---------------------
Cash lack is not good reason for evic.
--------------------
Only evict if
so crazy they need institutionalization or so
criminal they need to be away from all neighbors ("halfway" villages) or in jail.
Huey long ended them..every town and state and Congress can too.
Longtime overdue.
That would just do wonders for the housing market.

4. recall libertarians such as Challis McAffee--who was jailed for evicting someone at Wells
Fargo's behest at gunpoint
the antiregulators and flat-taxers see themselves as Winners who shouldn't be "punished" to feed the Losers
As opposed to the regulate the economy until it can't move and eat the rich crowd which seems to feel slackers should have everything the rich have with none of the effort.

8. That's MY MONEY They're Using As A Handout!
/souless teabagger ****
No, it's government using force to create a problem, and then using force to claim it fixed it. It's a bit like the field of psychology that way, self perpetuating. There are victims, but no good guys, just the way you DUmp monkies like it.

And I like the term "teabillies".
Been called worse by better there, sweet cheeks.

Is the son being investigated for elder abuse? He didn't pay his mother's bills for several years, and I'm assuming that he must have had some sort of power of attorney for her. It would be tragic for a 101 year old woman to be evicted, but if she thought the bills were being paid, and her son was not paying them, what was he doing with the money?

The son is no spring chicken himself. The details of what led to this aren't really discussed in the story. kpete just posted it accusing the tea party of having control of the Detroit city government apparently.

For the record, the kaput primitive, the "kpete" primitive, lives in one of San Diego's most-exclusive neighborhoods, a gated community with enormous single-family houses.
She's got tons of money.
To bad she doesn't put her purse where her mouth is.

People get so schizoid around these issues. The other night on Red Eye, comedian Paul Mecurio thought the tea party was heartless because they didn't want to support a 30 year old who could afford health insurance but didn't get it but then he was for the death of some fat person who sued White Castle under the Persons with Disabilities Act because he ate so many White Castles he couldn't fit into the seats at White Castle.

True, but the article mentioned that the bills hadn't been paid for several years
Her son Warren Hollis said he didn't pay the bill for several years and disregarded eviction notices.
"I screwed it up good," he told the Detroit Free Press.
It sounds like there is other family around, so if he wasn't capable of caring for his mother, even with something as basic as paying bills and noticing eviction notices, then it seems to me that somebody else in the family should have been helping him.
An article with more information is here (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44508464/ns/us_news-life/t/-year-old-detroit-woman-evicted-foreclosure/#.TnK3KGvgdGw)
They took out an adjustable rate mortgage on the house in 2002 and owed $80,000 on the house.

The Detroit News online has a couple articles about this, too. So, mom gets a second mortgage, son (who handles the bills) doesn't use the money to pay said mortgage or taxes thinking no one will boot an old gal out, son gets so upset he doesn't help mom take meds (just how flippin' upset is that?), mom ends up in hospital, gets house back.
Son had damn well better do some time for elder abuse. Lazy, mooching, one-way puke.
And this is my fault, how? I didn't raise the nickel-bred sonovabitch.
