White House 'rushed' loan to solar firm Solyndra
Edited on Thu Sep-15-11 06:44 PM by nadinbrzezinski
The White House could have rushed approval on a major government-backed loan to a failed solar panel firm for political reasons, say US Republicans.
Solyndra declared bankruptcy this month after laying off 1,100 workers, and was then raided by the FBI.
The company came to prominence when President Barack Obama visited it in May 2010 to promote green business.
The White House denied the loan had been rushed so that Vice-President Joe Biden could attend a groundbreak event.

And timeline
Solyndra: Advanced by Bush for 2 Years (Solyndra Timeline)
It’s often claimed that the Solyndra loan guarantee was “rushed through†by the Obama Administration for political reasons. In fact, the Solyndra loan guarantee was a multi-year process that the Bush Administration launched in 2007.
You’d never know from the media coverage that:
The Bush team tried to conditionally approve the Solyndra loan just before President Obama took office.
The company’s backers included private investors who had diverse political interests.
The loan comprises just 1.3% of DOE’s overall loan portfolio. To date, Solyndra is the only loan that’s known to be troubled.

The Bush Administration may have tried to conditionally approve it, but they ended up killing it prior to ObeyWon taking office. This is all Obama and only Obama.

1. That's what happens when Repukes control the House...they get to hold high-profile
witch hunts, er, hearings.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they did rush it.
WTF? He admits they may have rushed the loan through, but then calls it a witch hunt? :thatsright:

2. This sucks -- for ALL concerned. Why can't these rich ****s
do some "job creating" with their tax money not paid in taxes, and invest in these companies? Isn't that how it's supposed to work?
Rich folks investigate companies before putting their money into it. Obama didn't care because he was using OPM, specifically our money.

7. You know, regs or not... don't care
But since the timeline did not strictly come from a nooz site.
It's worthless much like your opinions.

Of course they are trying to pin this on Bush. It's from the DUmmy playbook, if something is bad blame Bush, if something good happens then it was 0bama.
-
...and the Whitehouse called in the king of nuance, John Kerry, to explain to Obama the nuances of how to be for something before you're against. It was to much for the simple minded Obama to comprehend so they went to their fall back position... It's Bush's fault.
-
Surprise, surprise. :whatever:
The DUmmies found the left-wing talking points on this issue.
-
Only problem with that is that the Bush administration gave the thumbs down to Solyndra and 0bama's regime fast tracked it for a big 0bama/democrat party bundler.
Other than that it is great lying point for the donks.

Once again the leftwingnuts demonstrate that they do not comprehend just what this internet thingy does... it lets us dig up exact info to easily expose the lie. This crap worked back in the day when they had total dominance of information, but no longer. It astounds me that they even try to float this bullshit. :censored:

Solyndra: I want heads to roll, people jailed, and impeachments to occur over this. This one pisses me off to the core.

It won't happen until the new Attorney General is sworn in in February of 2013.

This is great. I have a really good friend who is a huge liberal. He comes in every morning for coffee before I start my day. The first thing out of his mouth this morning; "This whole Solyndra deal started with Bush and was approved before O'bama took office!"
After about 2 minutes of discussion and a couple of clicks of a mouse I showed him where the Bush admin actually dropped the deal and O'bama picked it up for fast track.
He said; "Ok, it was a bad deal."
Heh.
This must have been one of Thom Hartmans conversation topics yesterday or something.

Hmmm, there was a conversion, but no "so" or cops jumping out of bushes.
I'll give it a 7. :bouncy: :-)

So much for just "talking points".......

It’s true that the Solyndra loan application was filed during the Bush years, and kicked around with varying levels of enthusiasm. Evidently proceeding on the assumption that their remaining supporters are idiots, the Obama people just decided to leave out the part of the story where the Bush team voted against the Solyndra loan, for precisely the reasons Obama tried to cover up when he was pushing it through.

http://nation.foxnews.com/solyndra/2011/09/14/bush-admin-voted-against-solyndra-loan(snip)
The results of the Congressional probe shared Tuesday with ABC News show that less than two weeks before President Bush left office, on January 9, 2009, the Energy Department's credit committee had voted against offering a loan commitment to Solyndra.
Even after Obama took office on Jan. 20, 2009, analysts in the Energy Department and in the Office of Management and Budget were repeatedly questioning the wisdom of the loan. In one exchange, an Energy official wrote of "a major outstanding issue" -- namely, that Solyndra's numbers showed it would run out of cash in September 2011.(snip)

Republicans pushed back hard against this version of events, unearthing internal Energy Department emails that indicate the panel evaluating the loans had made the unanimous decision to shelve Solyndra's application two weeks before Obama took office.

...and a lot more can be GOOGLE'd up if you take the time.

LOL! There wasn't even a conversion! He is the definition of a Yellow Dog. If you look it up his picture and name will be there. He is one hell of a funny guy but liberal as all get out. We have a lot of fun with the political jabbing back and forth.
Interestingly enough he finally admitted the other day that O'bama has been a huge failure and he wants Bernie Sanders to primary him. *snort*

I gave you a H5 because it was a very believable story.
No one ever talks politics in my office, so won't hear any bouncies here. I think it is mostly because we depend on a lot of government money from Medicare and Medicaid, kind of a necessary evil in health care. My boss is certainly conservative, she has quotes from Walter Williams and other conservatives on her desk.

I H5'd you back because your post made me LOL.
This guy doesn't work for me or with me. He works offshore operating ROV's for the OIL COMPANIES (heh). He's funnier than hell but liberal as hell. He moved to Texas from Michigan (by way of the FL keys) and I sold him a few houses. We've been friends for a long time now. He is one of those guys you can actually talk politics to who doesn't get mad about it. We have some very lively discussions and usually there are about 5 people in my office before the day begins drinking coffee shooting the bull ... he is the only liberal.

The guy who owns the Country Club and golf course in our area is somehow involved with Medicare and Medicaid. You may know him.

You raise very good points. I diverge just slightly on one point.
It doesn't astound me in the least. It seems to actually work for them about 30 percent of the time, so their attitude is, "Why not give it a shot and see if it sticks?"

An aside. I once worked for a multinational who just loooved to move people around the country. If you weren't mobile, you weren't going anywhere in that company. I had a boss in Maine, a solid yankee. They transplanted him down to North Carolina. One thing he could not get used to was the habit of southerners to hold a little "shoot the breeze" session before work. He was utterly befuddled on the first day, when his new staff trooped into his office, grabbed a chair and cuppa, and proceeded to gab. He didn't know quite what to do, or if it was some sort of meeting he'd forgotten he'd called.

Tax money not paid in taxes?!?
Let me get this straight: It's money that should have been confiscated as taxes, but it wasn't, so it should be used for some "job creating" since, if they had paid it as taxes as they should, they wouldn't have had it to invest anyway, so what's the difference if they loose it in a bad business venture.
OK. :mental:
This is why liberals don't understand economics.
