If anyone ever says that DU is awful, hateful, or whatever....tell them this story...
My daughter was in Idaho and homeless. Her health was at risk and she had nothing to hold on to. Her mental health was even more at risk. We were struggling to figure out a way to get her home to us. We feared for her life and we were going insane with worry. Not only that, my husband has been out of work for two years and was just now starting back to work. Money was a big issue.
I came to DU and expressed all of my fears and let loose. I was at the end of my rope.
A DUer stepped forward and said if we could get her on a plane, they would pay for it. I couldn't believe it. This was from a complete stranger I had never met before. It took some doing, but she finally agreed when we got her to realize the futility of her plan of attempting to drive cross country. She would have more than likely been stranded which would have made matters worse.
I am happy to say that my daughter is on her way home. In a few hours we are leaving to go meet her at the airport. My job has offered to cover her physical exam and helping get the ball rolling on making sure she gets the physical and mental health care she needs.
The road still won't be easy, but we're off to a great start.
Thank you, DU, and thank you to the wonderful person who helped make all of this possible. Words can't express how thankful we are for this invaluable gift.

Sell the damn car. Scrap metal price, it'll bring $300....ride the bus and leave the driving to us.

I need help, DU...
My daughter is currently in Idaho and homeless. She has had some serious issues for the past 4-5 years and while there everything pretty much imploded on her. We are living in Tennessee.
We are working on getting here. We're trying to talk her into taking a bus. I think her mental health issues have hindered her quite a bit. They've also taken a toll on her health. I'm told she weighs less than a 100 lbs, she drinks tea, coffee, and sodas. She rarely eats. She is very constipated also which is a result of her not eating. She is not a drug addict, at least not to illegal drugs. That much I know.
I'm pretty sure we will be able to get her here.
She does not work and only has a GED. Her children are with their father here in TN. She has no insurance at all and we are unable to cover her.
What I want to do is to take her to a doctor for a complete exam, both physical and mental. I don't know who I would need to talk to about seeing if the state can help help her. Would I need to go to Dept. of Human Services?
I'm so f*cking scared, DU. I've never felt so helpless or frightened like this before. I'm scared I'm going to lose her if she doesn't get help soon.

Nor have I seen any thread with the Skinner Seal of Approval to solicit his flock for contributions.
While I concur that getting help to those in need is a worthy goal not all who post on the internet are legit. Except of course those mail order brides from Belarus and elsewhere. :-)

For a number of years late in his life, he was the face of the NRA.
DUmmies hate anything associated with the Second Amendment, as it makes knocking over liquor stores a more dangerous career.
