for ollie to show up here.
We're good friends, and both of us are Coast Guard veterans.
-
Aha!,
I was looking for a newbie intro place. Hello everyone. Me an ol'6468 go way back!! Quick background CG vet, 67-71, 33 years in the Property Management business. Was on duty in midtown Manhattan when 9-11 occurred, not a fun week.......to put it mildly. Married 40 years, all the kids are out of the house so me and the wife have to learn to live with each other again.
Love history and historical preservation. Avid reader and a very ardent Washington Redskins fan. I lean conservative politically speaking. Strict constructionist when it comes to the Constitution.
Hope to participate in things as I get to know you all!!
Ollie
PS My Avatar is the Flank Marker for the 6th New York Heavy Artillery. It is my favorite Union Civil War Regiment. I will get into that sometime down the road.

Please give ollie a good Conservative Cave welcome! :yahoo:
-
Welcome, ollie! Always great to get another vet on board.
When the question comes up about whether or not you like peach cobbler, just keep in mind that there is no such thing as bad peach cobbler.
Trust me. It's important. ;)

Welcome Ollie! :cheersmate:

I was never given that warning, and I don't understand it. :???:
But I like peach cobbler, anyway. :-)

On a previous forum, ollie gave members a personal description of Manhattan during the attack on 9/11. It was terrifying and very descriptive. A hell of a thing for someone to have to experience.

Well, count your blessings, sir. You dodged a very large bullet.
The subject comes up every now and then -- usually by somebody loaded for bear.
His screen name is dutch508.

Wazzup with the peach cobbler? I've seen it mentioned before, too. :???:
Gotta leave until tomorrow AM (I think). :bolt:

Welcome, sir.

Welcome aboard, ollie! :cheersmate:
I'm a sort of semi Civil War buff too. In July I had the privilege to hold the Colt pistol one of my ancestors carried during the war with the 154th NYV infantry. Pretty cool. Unfortunately the guy that owns it isn't interested in selling it back to our family.
-
welcome ollie
look forward to sharing your love of history :cheersmate:

Thanks for the welcome y'all and I love anything peach with the possible exception of ice cream. :-). As ol'6468 mentioned I was in Manhattan that terrible day in September when we were on another board together. Each night I came home, I told the other board members what transpired in the City that day from my point of view. There were a couple of things that still shake up me up a little when I dwell on it, dust in the eyes and all that. If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to post it. Just remember if you read it that everything I jotted down was as it was happening, so some of the things that I heard on the radio, don't jibe with facts as we know them today. However, I made a decision not to edit it as I thought it would take away from the moment. I didn't want a polished piece per say.
Say the word and I'll put it up.
Regards,
Ollie

Howdy.
If you weren't paying attention, dutch508 got too many peach cobblers one year and couldn't give them away. That's the reason for the question. :-)
-
Oh man, ollie, I think you may have to hold my hand through this place!! :panic: I'm skeered!
I hope someone does request you post what you wrote after the 9/11 attack. I know it would mean a lot to me to read it again before the 10th anniversary.

Please do so. You survived and are posting here. We'd love to hear your history!

Squeek's previous forum was where ollie and I were members, oh so long ago. I think rustybayonet was there, too, but I'm old and it's hard to remember, so I'm probably mistaken................... :whatever: :???: :p
Please give Squeek a hearty "Conservative Cave Welcome!" She and ollie and I go back a l - o - n - g time!
ollie, I highly recommend that you post your memories of that horrible experience. Please.
(I keep trying to bring old friends here, and it's finally working!!! :hyper: :-) )

Hell, I thought I was younger than that! :yahoo:
What year was that when we met at your home in Buffalo? :???: It had to be longer than 4 years ago.
And "old friends" doesn't necessarily mean friends that are old! :lmao:
And meet Gina, our "nutbag"!!! :panic:

Welcome ollie and Squeek, glad to have you aboard!
I would be honored to read your account of 9/11, post away!
And thank you for your service :cheersmate:

Hiya Squeek, and welcome!
Didja catch the part about peach cobbler?
It ain't a trick question, as long as you answer it correctly. :-)
-
Hi Ollie and Squeak!!!!!!! Welcome!!!
-
Thanks Seahorse and Eupher. I'm going to have to go back over the peach cobbler part5 and reread and see if it makes any more sense the second time. Also I don't remember what the question is. (**grumble grumble** Geez I just got here and there are tests already.)

I moved South 7 years ago, so I am going to say we met 8 years ago in Buffalo, because I hadn't even sold the big house yet. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v642/JanieCallanan/Smilies/shocked.gif)
