Comedians angry with Jerry Lewis' telethon end (brought in about $2.5 billion)
Source: CBS
A Labor Day ritual, The Muscular Dystrophy telethon goes on the air Sunday night.
However, for the first time in 45-years, Jerry Lewis will be a no show.
Snip: Yet Sunday night's MDA telethon ushers in new, younger hosts. That the 85-year-old, who's inspired a generation of comedians, is being pushed aside has the country's funny men angry.
"After all these years, you're telling me there's no presence, Jerry lewis has no presence on his own (show)?" asked David Letterman on air recently.

I'm not happy that Jerry was forced out either , but the following two posts really piss me off.

14. Main thing is that Labor Day is its own thing without being diluted by Jerry
But then, I belong to the faction: Cynical-Jerry-kept-failed-career-on-life-support-with-charity.
Right, the holiday is more important than the work that this charity has done for decades.
And then this, from proudtobeanidiot.

15. Something I have wondered about for years
How much have they raised and how much does it take to cure this disease? Does all the money go to research? Yes I know what they say on the telethon but seriously, how much do they need?
Trillions have been spent on the poor to fight poverty, how much do they really need?
Hundreds and hundreds of millions have been spent to fight AIDS, should we just call it quits now?

According to the Better Business Bureau, MDA uses 77% of their revenue for projects. Here's a link:
http://www.bbb.org/charity-reviews/national/health/muscular-dystrophy-association-in-tucson-az-40
There are several types of muscular dystrophy AND the association also funds research into ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in addition to research that looks at other degenerative neuromuscular disorders. But, as an educator, I'm sure the lib in KS, did her research before asking that question. Maybe one of the brighter members over there will come along and do their own google search. :whistling:

Probably couldn't get through to a Google server due to Nadin's research on the history of labor, actually, and so just winged it.

There's no person or thing these assholes can't figure out a way to hate on. Miserable pukes.

If Jesus Christ raised one of them from the dead, they'd sue him. They would make a large claim against him for the pain and suffering of someday having to die a second time....John Edwards would take the case for 1/2 of the settlement.

I wonder if the DUmmies realize that the MDA, in addition to all the research, provide services at state and local levels for which public monies are unavailable.
Things such as bed lifts, wheelchairs, prosthetics, and medicines. Their summer camps, free to all kids with Muscular Distrophy (paid for by MDA and staffed by volunteers) does wonders for
the kids' attitude.
I have a friend whose son has MD, and he couldn't make it without some help, and MDA has always been there.
He will always have one of "Jerry's Kids", and Jerry will always be a part of MDA, no matter who
headlines the telethon.

Well, I think MDA is a fine organization. Any charity that spends most of its revenues on its cause is worthy (and rare).
But, unfortunately, almost nothing on earth sucks more than watching Jerry Lewis.

h
Nobody said he was a great entertainer, but his work with MDA, which goes back to at least the 60's, makes up for it.
(I was in high school in the mid-60's, and volunteered at an MDA kids' camp for 2 summers.)

The faggot disease gets far more funding from the government by extorting normal and civilized people out of their hard earned money. That pisses me off.

I always thought him and Dean were classic comedy. Like Laurel and Hardy, Abbot and Costello, etc. By himself, not too much. Back in my childhood we always hated to see the telethon cause you knew the next day school started.

Any time they see dollars being spent they get jealous that it is not on them.

Jerry Lewis...doing the governments job...and taking government jobs. [dump/mode]

That has to be what really pisses them off. People donating money to a cause that they want to donate to. Not the government taking that money in the form of taxes and then doling it out in the most inefficient manner to yet another failed government program.
-
Why the hell should they care about what people VOLUNTARILY give? Granted that's money that could have gone to the government but it's not like they don't take taxes out so the money people give they give after the government takes it's cut to pay for yet another useless program & union pensions. But I repeat myself.

Because they have the money to give in the first place, and it ain't going to support the DUmb****s.
