The Tea Party is a Perversion of America's Heritage. Updated at 7:36 PM
The Boston Tea Party was a protest by colonists against unfair taxation on the part of the British crown. The colonists were not against taxes, but only against having to pay them to what they saw as an overseas, anti-democratic authority. When Americans became an independent nation, our elected government was given and exercised its authority to levy taxes as needed. The American people, while disagreeing on individual items in the tax list, never challenged the authority of their government per se because it was a government of their choosing.
Today's tea party is not in the tradition of the historical event in Boston. It is the movement of a special interest group intent on destroying our democratic way of life by financially incapacitating our representative government. Under the sponsorship of corporate oligarchs, they want to assert themselves against the purpose of the Constitution as stated in its Preamble which is to " ...establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty." By pitting themselves against the values that were so clearly formulated by the founders of this nation, today's tea party is perverting the spirit of the colonialists who founded this country.

5. The fact that they would rather we default than take out more debt is telling
That means they would rather the American Experiment go to the scrapheap of history than us take out debt tells me they are fundamentally Un-American
Hey dumbass we wouldn't have automatically defaulted, we could have tried something really radical and crazy, stop spending what we don't have.
You have the nerve to call us un-American when it is your side that wants to transform our country into some socialist wonderland. :banghead:

Here's a bright idea... we could fund the government using George Bush's 2008 budget indefinitely. It's still $1-2 trillion cheaper than letting Barry have the controls for four years. And it doesn't fund Obamacare in any form or fashion.
-
They really can't stand that their entire political ideology, their soul such as they believe, is now bared for all the world to see.
Look around at what your preferred policies have done, DUmmies. We'll use the UK, because of the shared language and cultural ties as well as the fact that we are at best only slightly behind them.
The UK is barely above water after years and years of tax, borrow, and spend policies. They have your socialized healthcare, where the hospitals reuse unwashed sheets and use reusable needles, the painful kind, to cut cost. Meanwhile, They are unable to sustain even modest fleet operations of the coast of nearby Libya. They have a vast underclass to whom work is anthema. Why work when the government will happily pay you to watch TV, have sex, and sell drugs? They have no idea how to fix any of their problems, but at least they realize the jam their in. If any one of the PIIGS countries go into default, a near mathematical certainty by the way, the UK is almost certain to collapse right behind them. Then we all get to see just how deep the rabbit hole goes.
Speaking of the PIIGS, they all thought they could borrow and spend into infinity and it would never come back to haunt them, because good times are here to stay, well until the good times ended.
DUmmies, you think we should subsidize poverty, and call it welfare. How many uncounted trillions have you used to fight poverty? Do we have more or less of it since you started? You say we should stop the war on drugs, because there are now more drugs on the street than when we started. The idea has some merit, but logically shouldn't the war on poverty be called off for the same reason? You say we should pay for every bastard child born in America, while refusing to note that this destroys the family, and reduces too many men to a lifetime of adolescence. DUmmie, what hath you wrought?
I wish I could post this at DU, or that a DUmmie would answer these questions. Alas, things that are not to be.

The Tea Party went from inconsequential to beating them at every turn. They are like Bush, ignorant geniuses.
-
DUmpmonkeys, are the epityme of social reform.
No, I didn't mis-spell that.
Sorry for the edit, just saw something interesting.

How, exactly, does raising our debt ceiling take us out of debt?

Uhh, and why did they attack a ship carrying tea? Because the British government had essentially mandated the East India Company's monopoly on tea. You know, a monopoly, like single payer health insurance. As to taxes, well, the level of taxes they were unhappy with pale in comparison with the tax rates we pay today, and they abhored income taxes.
When Americans became an independent nation, our elected government was given and exercised its authority to levy taxes as needed. The American people, while disagreeing on individual items in the tax list, never challenged the authority of their government per se because it was a government of their choosing.
This is false. Every time a new major tax was passed, it ended up in court. The income tax went to the supreme court and was declared unconstitutional. Go read a history book on taxation in America.
Today's tea party is not in the tradition of the historical event in Boston.
Yes it is.
It is the movement of a special interest group intent on destroying our democratic way of life by financially incapacitating our representative government.
The founders wanted limited government, you @#%!ing dolt. That's what the tea party wants. I know you're a liberal moron, but it is possible to have a SMALLER representative government.
Under the sponsorship of corporate oligarchs,
Patently false, but since when to amoral liberals give a rat's ass about things like truth?
they want to assert themselves against the purpose of the Constitution as stated in its Preamble which is to " ...establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty."
False, go read Jefferson on the "general Welfare" clause and you'll find that he feared that some future group of IDIOTS would misconstrue the language to mean that the government can do basically whatever it wants. Once again, you're talking out of your fat liberal ass and absolutely, 100%, do NOT know what the hell you're talking about.
By pitting themselves against the values that were so clearly formulated by the founders of this nation, today's tea party is perverting the spirit of the colonialists who founded this country.
Founders' Values:
God
Honesty
Truth
Freedom
Limited Government
Liberals Values:
free shit at all costs
It amazes me that someone can type this tripe with a straight face.

They commended Obama for voting against raising the debt ceiling when he was a senator. Funny how that works.

Well, it's just like a credit card. They raised my credit line.............I HAVE MOAR MONEY!!!!!!!! :hyper:
