Rick Perry’s camp defends 1993 HillaryCare praise

Texas Governor Rick Perry has been among the most vocal critics of President Obama’s health care reform initiative, and of Mitt Romney’s preceding health care program in Massachusetts. But in 1993, while serving as Texas Agriculture Commissioner, Perry praised the efforts of then-first lady Hillary Clinton to reform health care, a precursor to Obama’s health care reform efforts.
In a letter to Clinton, who is now U.S. Secretary of State, Perry wrote: “I think your efforts in trying to reform the nation’s health care system are most commendable.â€
“I would like to request that the task force give particular consideration to the needs of the nation’s farmers, ranchers, and agriculture workers, and other members of rural communities,†Perry continued, noting his administration’s focus on economic development for rural Texans. “Rural populations have a high proportion of uninsured people, rising health care costs, and often experience lack of services.â€
“Again, your efforts are worthy,†Perry concluded, â€and I hope you will remember this constituency as the task force progresses.â€

This is the kind of thing that makes me skeptical of Perry. Some of his ideas sound pretty good, but when you go back and look at what he's done and some of his opinions, he starts looking like a RINO. He criticized the Arizona immigration laws. He voted for hate crime laws and he was a Democrat for a long time. It makes me wonder if he's just changed parties to increase his chances of being elected.
Obama campaigned as a moderate. He didn't revert to his liberal ways until after he was in office.
I would take Perry over Romney, but I wouldn't vote for either of them in the primary.

†How are Perry fanatics going to defend this? “
In 1993, health insurance was sky rocketing. Some of us long wished that it would be addressed by our side. Since it wasn’t, it was Hillary who dove off the cliff. That being said, what is wrong with the true and accurate statement Perry made about rural considerations?

So funny how that’s the ONLY thing Palin haters have is the SAME LINE over and over and over and over and they choose to remain ignorant to the FACTS & reasons....with Perry, at least he supplies us w/new ways to dislike him for Pres. EVERY DAY. If this is what conservatives dig up about him, can you imagine what the liberals will dig up if he’s the nominee????? And believe me, they are sitting on the good stuff till the general.

If Palin did not resign the governorship, would you have supported her if she ran for president this year?
I am a Palin supporter, and frankly, putting aside the consideration of the merits of the arguments given justifiying her decision to resign, it just isn’t that big of a deal to me. I don’t think it’s really a big deal to many who are primarily concerned with stands on the issues and ability to execute.

Perry could turn the Alamo into an illegal alien medical clinic, and they'd defend it.

I like Palin, but she can’t win. The Palinstinians needs to realize that her approval numbers with the majority of public have gone off a cliff and will never come back.

If one reads the letter, Perry was praising the efforts to bring health care to rural areas in Texas, not anything specific about Hillary's plan. IMHO, this should not disqualify him from consideration. There may be other reasons, but this ain't it.

the bottom line is ABO is going to win the 2012 presidential contest.
-
A "civil war" among Republicans and conservatives is vastly different from a "civil war" among Democrats, liberals, and primitives.
A "civil war" in the Republican party encourages robust debate and consideration of facts, and usually, generally, most of the time, the best-suited Republican candidate comes out on top (2008 being a rare exception), there being unity.
A "civil war" in the Democrat party incites anger, bitterness, and grudges. And division.
Perhaps the bitter old Vermontese cali primitive should contemplate upon that.

Praising the desire to reform health care can't be compared to praising the reform we got. Perry would say that the reform needs reforming.
