On how to make a statement on appliances that do not LAST
Well for coffee makers there are several options
A melita manual coffee maker

A french Press

Or a famous stove top espresso machine

I really do not like perc coffee, so bought a melita. I remember them fondly from a long time ago... they make good drip coffee and any failure it will be purely my fault.
But in my humble opinion we all have to look for alternatives, to send a message that is loud and clear. This designed to fail shit is no longer acceptable... period. So yes, even in what you buy you can make a statement.

9. Oh yeah it was washed after every use.
the locals were amazed at how much better it was... method was... boil water, drop grounds in boiling water, pour, wait a minute and then drink.
No matter how much you tried, there was sludge and chewy... so one morning I brought the newly washed sock... which I bought for the purpose. put the grounds in it. hung it from the top of a bottle and poured the water on it... they were amazed at how much better the coffee was. Sock staid[sic] after i left.

3. I noticed that the on/off switch is usually the weak point in Chinese drip coffee makers.
I modded my last $15 coffee maker with a high quality switch and it has lasted for 4 years so far.
I had a digital thermostat fail last week, now that pisses me off. Low voltage, solid state electronics should last at least 20 years.

10. KEURIG! KEURIG! KEURIG!
You can get a filter so you can use your own coffees. I use the prepackaged ones for drive to work coffees and guests.

13. Electrical, that is the rub
I just let both companies know why I will not buy an electrical one... I figure they need to know.

Keurigs are about as simple to use as it gets, but the product life is only like 3 to 5 years.

Oh no.
Now she's a coffee expert too?
Geezuz.
Me, I like the cheapest stuff I can find. Right now it's Folgers Breakfast blend in a 2 lb plastic "can" for $7.99.
It's "brewed" in a $15.99 Black and Decker Mr Coffee ripoff. No paper filters, just a fine screen. I need all the caffeine I can get.
My sentiments exactly, sir.
Coffee is coffee is coffee is coffee is coffee.
Of course, I'm aware others have a different opinion on the matter, but that's mine.
unless you get that half roasted S&W crap. THAT'S bad.smith and wesson makes coffee?
Oh no.

She's gone crazy. Seriously: she's mentally ill. Her spelling is the first clue. It wasn't always this bad. Nadine reminds me of Deb Frisch (Google her).Whoah, there's a name I haven't heard in a long time.
Next time I'm in New York I think I'll go eat at the Olive Garden
Ugggh, I draw the line at Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill.Speaking of coffee snobs!
It's all exactly the same. Coffee snobs are as tiresome as wine snobs and soccer fans.
Speaking of coffee snobs!
Macaroni Grill is a great restaurant chain.
We don't have a convenient Olive Garden, but really enjoy Macaroni Grill.
I've eaten Italian food all over, including Rome and Venice, and Macaroni Grill
is as good as any of them...if you aren't a snob.
I like our Keurig --
They are expensive to operate when you compare pound for pound, and I am sure some liberal (if it hasn't happened already) will bash them for the 'waste' and that prepackaged coffee comes from anywhere, not just so-called 'fair trade' sources - but I love the variety and convenience.

Mario Batali has a restaurant in NYC that houses a store where you can buy pasta, etc. Next time you are there buy the dry pasta, go home, cook it and try it without anything on it.
Then tell me it is the same as Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill (I love Olive Garden by the way). It's not even close in any stretch of the imagination, and it isn't even fresh pasta.
Appreciating good food and drink doesn't make you a snob.

That's about what I do at home...Although it's the big tub of Folger's at SAms club and its up to 14.99 :bird: :censored: Cheap coffee maker with its own filter. I've found what makes the difference with home brewing more then anything is the water!!! At my old house, I bought distilled water because the water was too heavily chlorinated and the coffee tasted liek crap because of it. Here, the water actual tastes good to drink right out of the tap and it's great in coffee! But there still is a difference in taste. I've bought even cheaper coffee in a pinch and it was bad--seemed like it was not kept well or stored well and every time it would already be stale. Folgers or Maxwell House and even Kroger's brand is worth the little extra. Always fresh and makes a good, solid cup o joe.
I bought my husband this cuisinart keuring coffee maker yesterday for his birthday.

I'm drinking a cup of java made with that model as we speak. I like the fact that we can use it with our own ground coffee and a cup at a time. Sweeeeeet. We've had it running for two years now with ZERO issues.

That is good to hear. How often do you change the water filter?
I have one that sits in the closet because I think it is too expensive. I need to run two little canisters through to make one cup of coffee or I think it is too weak. I see that DD sells them now too, so I may give that a shot.
They are nice to have though when you have company so the coffee is always on.
