Potato Challenge Day 29/100
* Last of the "oatmeal rice" with frozen veggies and teriyaki sauce
* Raisins, one handful
* Mashed potatoes with mustard and garlic
Potato Challenge Day 30/100
* Butternut and yellow squash casserole
* Air-popped popcorn, plain
* Brown rice with frozen veggies and teriyaki sauce
Well, I've been putting off saying anything because I just get tired of coming in here and posting about stupid problems, but right now I've got an issue which I think may be related to the fact that my skin in many areas of my body is becoming rather loose. And this one is making it very painful to even sit in a chair for any length of time. I won't go into TMI territory here but I've had this for four days now and Eucerin isn't helping. So maybe switching to zinc oxide cream will.
Hopefully I'll be incident free and more chipper before long.
Sorry I'm not posting in as many journals right now, but know that when I get a chance I do read through them. I just haven't been sitting here at the computer long enough to really spend a lot of time here or on any of my other favorite sites.

Try heavy coats of diaper rash cream. I believe it is zinc oxide. It works.
Jeanette just dug out an almost full tube and we put some on the affected areas.
It's been a few minutes, and it's not as uncomfortable to sit right now, for the moment anyway. I'll keep everyone posted.

I've found that showering every morning and putting on medicated Gold Bond Powder helps me a lot with that but when I still get bad I use the diaper rash stuff at night.
I'm using zinc oxide cream 3 or 4 times a day and finally seeing some progress towards healing. The problem spot got very bad in a hurry, so I'm going to have to keep a constant eye on things as my skin gets looser and tends to fold together more.
Whoa. Wait What? I'm not familiar with that phenomenon.

Potato Challenge Day 31/100
* Brown rice with frozen veggies and Bragg's
* Air-popped popcorn, plain
Potato Challenge Day 32/100
* Layered vegetable casserole of zucchini, butternut squash, potatoes and onions
* Air-popped popcorn, plain
Still spending most of my time in bed while waiting for this issue on my backside to heal up. It still feels like a lobster is firmly attached to my butt when I walk, so I can't even though I desperately want to move around more. Hopefully in another couple days.
I'm not going to record my weight until the last Sunday of the month, in the hopes that I'll have a loss to show. I check every couple of days anyway, but for now I seem to be stuck at a couple of pounds on either side of 340.

I had to look that up; I had no idea, and considering it's the gigantic primitive, I merely assumed it had something to do with his bowel movements.

I can explain the loose skin thing. When one is very heavy and then loses a lot of weight, the skin that was stretched out to hold in all of the extra tissue has lost it's ability to constrict back to normal so oftentimes plastic surgery can be done to fix the problem. Also, women who have multiple babies at one time end up with extra skin that a can be repaired.
I had a tummy tuck (also known as abdominoplasty) done 20 years ago. It certainly wasn't painless but it was worth it.
I would say the best thing for the gigantic primitive and his problem would be to not lie in bed or sit. When my son had diaper rash many years ago, the advice was to leave the skin open to the air to allow for healing. That would mean the gigantic primitive could wander around his apartment in the nude. That's not a pretty picture to imagine.

Man, if that's the case, the gigantic primitive must look like a shriveled-up elephant, weighing 500 pounds but with the same skin that used to cover 1,000 pounds.
Man.

Google "loose skin photos" but not anytime close to when you might be eating.

That's probably what it is. If you're fat for a LONG time, the skin loses a bit of elasticity and can only shrink back so much before it goes Shar Pei on you.

Uh, madam, I dislike to tell you what happened as I read that.

Fatty should look on the bright side: He is now a skinny man in a fat mans skin. He can slide 3 feet either way without ever having to lift his butt off the couch....which is probably what is causing the problem.

Now I've got to clean the Peanut Butter Pandemonium ice cream off the monitor. :banghead:

Hawaii, son, a 6 week preborn baby came home and at 4 lbs. I had no idea what or how to care for this tiny human.
Mom sold her car and flew out from Maine to help me out with this 3rd. grandchild.
Never having encountered a human this small both Mom and I had no idea what to do to care for him.
so we decided to just treat him the same way as we did big baby's in New England.----------WRONG !!!
We got together with the doctors at Trippler Army and given advice that is unheard of in New England.
No diapers until the child can sit up. Keep baby in the outside in the shade naked as much as possible, some sun is OK but for not more then 15 minutes a day. We did buy a small play pen covered with zip up screens so the bugs and Geckos would not fall into or on the baby.
Amazing how this boy thrived and grew.
The suggestion that this man stay naked as much as possible is a good one. Frankly I do not give a damn about the pretty picture here, a human is in pain, suffering and this is NEVER a pretty picture.
Is there anyone here old enough to remember a slight clip of the flesh to protect against irregular tearing for child birth.???? The old time heat lamps woman lay under to do what ever doctors at the time believed were a benefit.?????
Not a pretty sight woman laying naked under the heat lamps, but it sure did feel good.
Say off subject but being on the medical staff for a sex change operation is no everyday thing. Bring in a pretty young woman [ thinking of Chaz, Chers new son?]
In you go to the operating room with the mother outside cheering on the process. 15 hours later the young woman comes out gutted of internal organs, Brest's removed and every one has a party to celebrate the distruction of a female God made.
This is not a pretty picture, better to watch a overweight male live in the nude then to see a daughter turned into a ugly fat man.

One can either have the extra skin surgically removed, or exercise it off by weight/resistance training. Why not go the extra mile, dude, and get your chaffy folds to the nearest weight bench?

No, I still think the gigantic primitive should get a job, the aim not being only a paycheck so as to take the stress off his wife Jeanette, but also so as to better his physical condition.
I still think "hotel bellboy," the gigantic primitive wearing one of those cute red suits and a cute red cap, would achieve both goals--the tips are good, taking the load off Jeanette, and all that walking-around is great exercise.
-
Peanut Butter Pandemonium...isn't that a Stewart's flavor?
Yes, I was struck too by the "spend most of my time lying in bed." WTF?
I would rather exercise 24/7 rather than follow that diet he's typing out. Can you imagine? It's like eating at the Gulag.
Saw a guy at Walmart last weekend, looked just like LVL with the beard, etc. He was so fat, he had to sit sideways in one of those scooters. Just a big mountain.

Frank, Frank, did you really have to use "loose buttocks"?

It occurred to me after I'd posted this thread, that "sagging buttocks" would've been better, but alas it was too late. What's written is written, and can't be unwritten.

before it goes Shar Pei on you.
So now we can call him the "Giagantic Shar Pei Primitive"??

The reason he's hitting a plateau is because he's getting no freaking protein. Carbs, especially starchy ones like rice and potatoes turns to glucose so the body can use it for fuel. If it's not needed immediately (and it wouldn't with all the fat reserves he has) it's stored as more fat. Good proteins (fish, chicken) and lots of water are the two most important things you can do if you want to lose weight. Even certain fats, like olive oil, the fat in salmon, flax, peanut butter, almonds are better for someone trying to lose weight than potatoes, rice, and noodles. Proteins also help maintain your muscle which is vital for someone like Sir Giganto. The more muscle you have the faster your metabolic rate. Cutting down on your carbs forces your body to use stored energy. The FDA has protein and fat requirements way too low but then the government is usually 10 steps behind current science. He'd also find his skin heals faster and doesn't get as many sores if he had enough protein for cell growth. His body is in survival mode. Atkins works for a reason.

Not true. If the skin is damaged, there is only so much one can do on one's own. Unfortunately...

Yep. I focus on getting my protein in my diet first and foremost. About 1-1.5 grams per pound of lean body mass is what I try to hit. Your body needs protein to help maintain muscle while you're cutting. No doubt the DUer has lost significant muscle mass along with the fat loss since he's not lifting weights and eating protein. So, in the end, he'll just end up skinny-fat, shaped like he was when he started, only smaller, and with more wrinkles.
His "plateau" is likely due to miscounting or just not counting calories at all, depending on this "miracle diet" to do all the work for him no matter how much of it he eats. Weight loss is eating less calories than you need to maintain your weight, period. At 340, if he were on a 2,000 calorie diet, weight would be coming off of him quickly, and that could be eating 2,000 calories a day of Oreo cookies.
I imagine he looks something like this by now, with the same body hair distribution:

At least Shar Peis are cute.

Absolutely and your argument is the reason a weight program and not just cardio is so important too. My best strides were made with weight training and not with cardio. Cardio helped burn fat and definitely improved my cardiovascular health and output, but weight training is needed to get good tone and to maintain weight and metabolism.

Okay, but wouldn't working as a bell-boy do him good?
And it's something he wouldn't have to pay for (a gym); the gigantic primitive would be making money, not spending it, so as to take the burden off his wife Jeanette.
All that running-around and lifting, wouldn't that do the same thing?
And additionally, the gigantic primitive lives in Las Vegas, an oasis of hotels. And there seems to be, for some peculiar reason I don't want to know myself, some female hotel patrons think fat bell-boys are "cute," and so there'd be even more tips in it.
The guy's been on the dole long enough; time to get him out earning a living.

Clothespins and duct tape come to mind. :o

Sure, but he'd probably have to put some extra effort in to really benefit and we know he wouldn't. For example, he would have to offer to take the bags up the STAIRS rather then elevator or use his own strength rather then those push carts to bring bags in. I hardly doubt LVL has the creativity when it comes to physical labor or exercise to pair the two together as one to get the optimum benefit. I'm phrasing in terms he will understand if reading frank, but maybe telling him instead to lift two bags of potatoes 50 times before he eats them might have been more appropriate to rouse his interest? Perhaps putting an extra SSI check in front of the treadmill dangling like a carrot in the old Bugs Bunny cartoons? I'm trying here, sir. I just want LVL to get better and contribute as do we all. :) Alas, I am wanting for ways to explain in terms that will appeal to a perpetual victim and layabout. :bawl:

I have a little damage there..In my mind not enough to pay thousands to fix, but definitely can't be addressed by anymore core work then has already been tried. I got down to a ridiculous body fat percentage and still had it. I dont have enough for clothespins and duct tape, but its there none the less...LVL though might benefit from your sage advice. :-)

Yeah, that's something I mention a lot in real life when people start going to pot.
It's been years, but I once had a government desk-job. That I was going to seed wasn't the only reason I left, but it was a pretty major reason. I left there, and went to work bending 12' length 3" diameter 380-pound steel pipes into posts for basketball backboards. It was a great job (not to mention I was making slightly more money).
(Actually, it was quite a sight, watching tall and thin me at one end, and a non-English-speaking near-dwarf eastern European immigrant at the other end.)
Happy are those who can mix physical conditioning in with their jobs; it's great.

Fully agree. Also, both protein and fat make you feel full longer than carbohydrates so he would be looking at a more pleasant weight loss experience. If he simply added some protein and healthy fats to his meals he could make them about the same caloric value, but feel more satisfied and probably lose weight more easily.

Agreed. And the little cap should have an elastic chin strap, like the little guy who used to "Call for Philip Morris!"

He still needs to get shoes for those walrus flippers he walks on.

He needs to get some Miconazole for that skin thing he has. Yeast is growing from the sweat and skin flaps. He's making bread over there.
Generic brand at any store is cheap.

I was literally eating my peas (like Obama told me) when I read this ( I cooked some frozen peas, added real butter and a lot of pepper) and his TMI stuff made me unhungry. :puke:

I actually eat them frequently for lunch. I microwave one of those steam in the bag kind. No one else likes peas in my family so the only time I eat them is when I'm by myself. I hate canned peas though.

No one else will eat peas in my house, either, so I will make them for myself. I love those steam bag vegetables.
