Title: U.S. fumes after Israeli envoy to UN envoy brands Carter 'a bigot'

The United States registered an official protest with Israel against its ambassador to the United Nations, Dan Gillerman, for calling former U.S. President Jimmy Carter an "enemy of Israel" prior to Carter's recent visit to the region. A senior Foreign Ministry source said Saturday that the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv asked that Gillerman be made aware of the U.S. administration's dissatisfaction with the disrespectful comments about the former U.S. President.

I don't understand the problem.  carter is an enemy of israel.

Disrespectful comments?  What is there to respect?  Besides, it's just the UN, also known as the Jimmah Carter Center.  

No one cares.  Why would the US bother?

I think you hit it.  I am sure that the attitude at the state dept is that he may be a shithead, but he is our shithead.

Carter left the house a long time ago and has been trying to burn it down ever since.  I don't consider him family.  I consider him a felonous enemy. 

I'd rather my house be defending Israel.

Unfortunately a lot of the long-service State Department really does think like Crazy Jimmy, so I'm sure they have no problem chastising anyone who calls him on his antics.  While we do have to obey the forms and protest, I hope the Israelis stick to their guns on this instead of retracting it for fear of biting the hand that feeds them.  That wacky SOB needs to figure out that his place in international politics disappeared forever with the fiasco in Iran.

And the US for that matter.
