Title: obnoxious 20 somethings
Post by: seahorse513 on August 17, 2011, 09:53:57 PM
ok here goes: This week I happen to be doing a remodel in another store, and one of the gals, I am working with is an obnoxious 20 something know-it-all.

Now it may be true that this may be a hobby, or it is a bouncy!!

She informed me today, that she takes or has in the past, have taken fencing lessons.
AND she has a sword collection at home...I would say she is 23?? works at Walmart(where would she get the money to buy collected swords)

She has made several references to the video game Mortal Kombat, and other similar like video games, she became a sword expert???

I gave her a questioning look and a "um okay" and she got really defensive....

I don't know about the rest of you, but a woman or girl who brags is very unladylike.(whether it is true or not)

Oddly enough, a guy that I work with also took fencing lessons, and has a "sword" collection.  I use parenthesis, because his "swords" are the type you see at the booths in flea markets: they are just for looks, and serve no true purpose.  I would imagine hers are the same.

Several people I know have collections of swords. Mostly they're collected as "art" and not intended , described or promoted as combat devices.

What you said is closer to what I intended to say, but I screwed it all up when it went from my mind to my fingers.
To each his own on items like this- it doesn't bother me one way or the other what they want to do with their money.

That being said, the guy I know thinks he'll be able to defend his home with one if someone were to try to break in.  ::)

My mom says the same thing about the baseball bat next to her bed.

I took two years of fencing in college. It was fun. I won first rank my final day. But I have seen fencers who have been doing this for years...They are a BLUR.

I learned I am SLOOOOOW compared to a fencer who has devoted years to the sport.
Two years is nothing compared to someone who'd practiced since high school.

I do not own a sword today. I bought a freakin gun.

If Indiana Jones hadn't shot that guy, he would be giving you tech support advice today.

Maybe it's for the better.

The story behind that scene--Harrison Ford had come down with malaria during the shooting of the movie.  The original script that George Lucas had written had called for Indy to fight the scimitar-wielder, but it was all Harrison Ford could do to just shoot him that day.  And, as an ad-lib, it became one of the best scenes of that movie.

The stunt man invested a ton time practicing with the scimitar too just to have it cut down to a 30 second scene. But it does work well the way it was shot.
