Stopped a Tea Partier cold (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1756888)

Argument was over FDR's Presidency.
His first argument was the only reason why Roosevelt won 4 times was because of the war. I pointed out his election and next two re-elections was before the war.
But the big win was when he said it wasn't the New Deal and Big Government, it was the war.
I said, "You mean WWII.
The war where most men between 18-35 were in the Government run military.
The war where those same men were being paid a salary by the United States Government.
Where business hired people to work in the factories to produce the equipment that the US Government told them to produce and how much to produce.
Where the government provided ration books to make sure that the war was run as efficiently as possible and prevented people from taking more than they needed so everyone at home and in the field/on ship, etc would have enough to eat.
You mean that War?"
He shut up and just sat there nursing his drink.

You must mean the "War effort". No protesting in the streets, having pride in country, fighting a common enemy in unity.
That one?
Asshole

Hmmmm...seems to me that I remember reading in my history texts somewhere that FDR originally felt that he would not run for a third term in 1940, but that the war in Europe convinced him he was the only one able to keep the US out of the war, and as such went ahead and ran.
Dear DUmmies, Google (or is it nadin?) the phrase, "Arsenal of democracy." Prepare to be surprised.
-
You mean the war that democrat politicians were able to get the right people what they wanted on the black market if they promised to vote for them until death? The democrat politicians of the first 40+ years of my life?
-
FDR the war criminal? that FDR?
-
If it were really this easy to shut down a conservative, why didn't we hear it from the Democrats and the media before the 2010 election? The rats were spanked because they had no answer...they were the ones who were shut down.
Still the DUmp is the DUmp, and a rat can always win an argument when no one else is allowed to talk.

What is rpannier doing palling around with terrorists?
This has to be one of the lamest bouncies, ever. He didn't even bother to set the scene.

That was a let down for me. When I read the title I thought one of the Boar Hog Tits had finally seen the light. This is what I expected:
Stopped a Tea Partier cold. Told him I was tired of hating America and being a leech on society. That I was finally going to get a job and use my head for something other than a pot smoke circulator.
Then I clicked the link to find more lies. Water's wet. The sun's hot. Boar Hog Tits constantly tell make-believe stories.

How about the war where FDR forced a whole group of Americans into camps, based solely on their race? How about the war in which FDR built and Truman used the one weapon that has caused bed-wetting liberals to bitch and moan for more than half a century?

One of the main reasons why Truman dropped the A-bomb (Yes, THAT war) was because politically the US would not endure the war much longer. People were tired of ration books, shortages of commercial goods and their loved ones being away/killed.
The US scrambled to DE-mobilize as fast if not faster as it mobilized because the war crushed the civilian economy.
BTW - Aren't these the same idiots who cry about fearing the MIC? If I read this post correctly he's arguing in favor of a militarized society.

One good reply,"Wow, you're right. We should strongly escalate our Middle East wars, restart the draft, bring back rationing, and put the Muslims in all those FEMA camps!! Great idea!!" :hyper: :hyper:
**slap the guy on the back in congratulations and walk away**

6. The WWII meme is a common one for a lot of RWers.
I've heard the same argument (it must be going around in an email or something) and I said the same thing you said. Shuts them up real good!
Oh no, it's a trend.
They no longer have to call us racists to make us shut up. Now they can just spring the reason-for-4-FDR-terms trap on us. Guaranteed to turn tea-hadists into quivering, sulking, fuming, sputtering, yet silent masses of jelly.

Yuppers--in the 3 1/2 years of war to that point there had been 400K American deaths (about 300K due to combat and 100K due to other reasons), and about 650K wounded.
Now imagine those kind of numbers in about the first 60-90 DAYS of Operation Downfall.

2. Excellent. I get so flustered with these misinformed people sometimes I can
hardly speak correctly or think of the right things to say.
Only (nearly - swap 'mis' for 'well-') accurate comment in the whole thread.

26. Oh I so agree. Fox is nothing more than a brainwashing tool.
In fact the other day I saw a truck outside work that read "Not feeling sorry (o in sorry replaced with Obama logo) yet? Then you're watching too much (insert what he percieved to be the "liberal media") and not enough Fox News.". It was also proudly displaying a tea party bumper sticker. God damn them.
Pretty wordy for a bumper sticker don't you think?
His post was followed by the icon of the guy throwing his computer across the room, displaying his childish ire.

Hmmm...you mean the war that Roosevelt's socialist party may have been a significant CAUSE?
Keep in mind that the American boom in the Roaring Twenties was due to our first major expansion to our capitalist, middle-class industrial society. FDR took a recession that, although serious, had not been disastrous, and used it as an excuse to implement socialistic policies that destroyed any capitalist advances gained.
Keep in mind that our trade was not just based upon domestic policies, but our rapidly expanding international trade was the first major casualty. It is no coincidence that Japan and post-WW1 continental Europe were among our biggest trade partners in the 20's. When FDR socialized the economy in the 30's, he not only created a decade-long depression, he also stifled trade with two areas of the world that resulted in an infestation economic malaise, which allowed Imperial Japan and the Wiemar Republic to aggressively pursue their military agendas...which turned into the biggest world war in history.
To that end, FDR's involvement has heretofore never been questioned, but economics play the biggest role in determining country fates. Socialist policies lead to war, capitalist policies lead to peace. There cannot be any other result based upon human nature.

Perhaps he just sat there nursing his drink because he knew you can't argue with stupid.

Yep.
Also, interesting name. From Aristotle I presume?

Thanks, and yes - I've been a fan of Aristotle ever since I read 'the Politics' aged 16.
