Are you addicted to DU? Then we need your help. (NOT A FUND DRIVE POST!)
It's time for us to bring on some new moderators -- but before you roll your eyes and click away from this page, please hear me out.
As you all know, DU is an incredibly busy discussion forum and we rely on the help of dedicated volunteers to keep the place running as smoothly as possible. Moderating discussions on DU is a challenge -- judging alerted posts can be more of an art than a science, and not everyone will appreciate the work you're doing. Meanwhile, having a Democrat in the White House has definitely shifted DU's focus over the past three years, from mostly-united GOP-bashing to internecine feuds over the direction of the Democratic party and the country. We expect this to change somewhat as the Republican presidential field solidifies and we move closer to the 2012 elections. But in the meantime, moderating these debates is no easy task.
Despite the challenges, the good people who serve as DU moderators continue to perform vital work on behalf of our community. But the fact is that we are currently short on coverage at certain times of the day and we need extra help sorting through alerts during those times. If you are on DU regularly during weekday afternoons, or in the middle of the night, we could really use your help. Otherwise alerts get backed up, people get ticked off, and the whole community suffers.
So if you can spare a few hours a day -- if you are on DU already, posting, or just reading -- then we would very much appreciate it if you would consider serving as a moderator for the next few months.
We have streamlined our application process -- to learn more about how to become a DU moderator, click here:

Thanks for reading, and please kick & recommend this thread so as many people as possible get a chance to see it.

Well, now, that's a problem. Most of the people here got their stars from the CalPig.

Seriously? Do they do that on any other boards?

Seriously? Do they do that on any other boards?
Good question.
I suspect it happens because of the short-term "terms" of the moderators on Skins's island, three months or something, as compared with the low turnover in moderators at other places, such as this one.
-
You know, sir, franksolich's long-time supermole on Skins's island has never applied to become a moderator there.
The hang-up's that a telephone conversation is required, and franksolich can't do telephone.
One wonders if this is prejudice against deaf people.
-
Being a first tier mod over there would be about the same as being the janitor at a day-care centre for delinquent chimpanzees.
-
You must have donated at least one time to Democratic Underground using your own name.
With that criteria you have to wonder if the mods are indeed moles, because you know 90% of the misfits have never donated a dime.
-
Well, all moles are disqualified to begin with, since none of them have more than 50 posts.

I wouldn't place any large wagers on that if'n I were you.

Oh man, no way do I believe that. I was just quoting a primitive from a thread somewhere in the DUmpster that I read yesterday. :-)

This was prompted by Big Al (or whatever his name was) on democrat warrior. He had a TS'd moderator spilling the beans on the clique at the DUmp. They collectively decided to ban or exempt posters from any actions for their behavior. It caused quite a stink.
Skimmer got a C&D and the site folded shortly thereafter.
I don't know if the C&D letter and the sinking if the site were related.
ETA: Big Jer was his name.

I have over 3k. 90% in GD.
My first mole got to two. That's how I discovered that they really love the UN.

The one where the DUmmie was giving out bumper stickers for the Obamateur.

Although none of us know for sure, I suspect the primitives would be unpleasantly surprised to learn how many of their favorite, most trusted posters are moling the bejeezus out of them.
