Are these people out of their MINDS????
Private company's sending up spacecraft into space?????
HIMMMMMMM, has any of you ever received a notice in the mail of a recall on your car or truck, -------
Ever paid attention to the recalls on food, flamable clothing, baby cribs or microwaves that can catch fire???
Just who are the Private Company's that will build these things, where do they get there parts? China that can not even make safe cat food or baby formula???
Even the Government had a problem with the manufacture of the O rings for some of our NASA rockets.

You know......just sometimes, could you please just STFU on things you really don't know about.
Who makes all the aircraft parts in China?
Ever see what those recalls are all about??? Usually the goverment trying to out nanny itself.
The O-rings, really the manufacturing of the O-rings, you have no clue about what happened. No, the way the o-rings were manufactured didn't make the problem for NASA and their rockets. A poor design on the SRB and operating at temperatures well below any tested, now that causes problems.
Vesta, the private companies have been doing this for quite sometime. The goverment isn't needed for everything.

Mr. Horse,
I beg your pardon but as a consumer of private company made products, the idea of trusting any of them to produce a product as dangerous as this is totally NUTS.
Who are they accountable to if some disaster happens. There are just some things that the government Has to be in charge of. We have seen what happens when private company's build an army of mercenaries to work for governments over seas, no one is accountable for them regardless of what they do.
Why should I or anyone STFU about things we do not understand, why are you so upset that I ask questions and want to know just how this can work, is this not how we learn ???

Poor design, faulty testing, Mimmmm with all the experts working at NASA and the government inspections, this slipped through the cracks. What happens when a private company needs to cut corners to be cost effective????
In my estimation MR. Horse you would make a horrible teacher, you get all riled up with people who question something and instead of enlightening them on the Facts as you know it, you use a heavy hand to jack them up. The problem is, when someone questions something and others around them tell them to STFU, they know nothing, then I wonder what nerve ending I have pushed and why the over reaction.
Darn but I wonder if you were part of the private company that built the big dig in Boston.

You do realize that private companies are contracted by the government to manufacture everything it uses don't you?

True but the government does not allow the company to pass on its wares with just a company inspector giving the go ahead to ship it. Once at the Government buyer, the item is again inspected then on to the installers that will also give it a good look. After installiation the installed item is then inspected to insure it will work as desined.
How the O-rings got past the so called genious at NASA, is beyond me. Reminds me of all the torpedeo falure on our subs at the start of WW2. Design error was said, How many Subs and crews did we loose before the problem was corrected?????

The Soviet Union designed and built rockets without any involvement of a private interest, being a communist country after all. The Soviet Union has a horrible track record as far as manned space flight goes. Oh sure, they were the first to orbit an artificial satellite and a human space capsule, but they had a lot more accidents than the US did.

50 dollars a pound is dirt cheap compared to the Space Shuttle's 10,000 dollars a pound. Competition and innovation will do even better in the future, and make cheap passenger flights into space possible.

Wasn't it Allen Sheppard that said something like this just before they lit the candle he rode into space, "Here I sit on the end of this thing and it's all built by the lowest bidder."
