The oncologist gave me some choices, all bad
So, this cancer is an extremely aggressive second primary tumor that has already crossed the midline of the tongue. If I want to live more than about nine more months, I will need to have at least 60% of my tongue removed, a bunch of lymph nodes out, and probably at least part of my jaw removed. They can reconstruct part of the tongue with a chest-flap muscle, but speech is likely to be extremely impaired and of course I won't be able to taste anything anymore. (This probably ends my political career.) I'll need a trach to breathe through and a PEG tube to eat through.
I forgot to ask what my odds/projected lifespan is if I get the surgery done.
If I opt not to go through the surgery, I will live about six to nine months, and the worst part is during the last stage I will smell so bad that no one will be able to stand being around me and the pain will eventually be uncontrollable. This is a fate that will eventually happen to me anyway, since even with the surgery the odds of eventual recurrence of this kind of aggressive oral cancer are very high.
I brought UncleSepp's mom, who is a trained oncology patient care tech/CNA, with me to the appointment, and she said it is one of the worst gut-punch diagnoses she's ever heard. I've been staying with her and Sepp is coming down from Seattle to stay here with me through this, too. I am so amazingly lucky and grateful to have friends like this.
Still undecided about my course of action.
Tucker
I will pray for you.
Stay away from DU. There's no good can come from it. Establish a relationship with God. He will listen. Not for recovery but for salvation.
In the end, it's all we can hope for.
-
Prayers.
-
Wow, horrible...just horrible. Prayers for AlienGirl.
-
Prayers out. Is Aliengirl a girl?
This is horrible. May God give you peace and comfort through whatever is to come.
KC
-
Just said a Prayer now!
-
I think it's foolish to take seriously anything posted at the DUmp.
DUmmies lie, all the time. They are, almost without exception, pathological liars.

DUmmies lie, all the time. They are, almost without exception, pathological liars.
I can't imagine anyone lying about a serious illness, and if by chance someone did they really need our Prayers.
-
Prayer up from here. What a hard thing to face.
I, too, cannot imagine this being a farce.
-
I believe that the Lord Hinself said something about praying for our enemies, GOBUCKS. If it is a farce, then said person will have to reconcile that with God. I, too, have just prayed for this person.
-
AlienGirl, even we wish you well.
Stay strong in heart.
-
Prayers sent.
Healing and strength, AlienGirl.
-
I hate the cancer! It knows no bounds. Prayers are up.
-
I'm a bad person.
Pray-for-the-DUmmy threads always make me want to puke.
There are so many other things more deserving of prayer.
I don't even send DUmmies a picture of my hands.

You have to separate the politics from the person. If there's a natural disaster in your neighborhood and people are hurt, you're not going to say are you a Republican or a Democrat before you help them. Like it or not, 1 thing we have in common with the left is a passion for politics, oh and also both groups get annoyed at the fence sitting moderates who can never make up their minds LOL.

This OP was a first for me.
While reading it, something struck me as genuine fear in her writings. I sense that she is telling the truth. Hence my advise to get the hell away from the dUmp.

Me, too, Tuck.
I don't like to see anybody suffer.
Don't care what their political thought is.
If what she is going through is honest, I wish her the best.
-
Who knows whether this story is true, or just another made for DU drama mini series?
However I will extend well wishes, thoughts and prayers just in case she is being truthful.

Or another way to look at it. DUmmy AlienGirl supports abortion and therefore supports murder. She would gladly murder a helpless baby and who knows, maybe she already has. Do we really care if a murderer or someone who ardently supports murder dies?
-
AlienGirl
(This probably ends my political career.)
Anyone know what this is all about?
.

She's saying there are far more important things in life than DU.
Godspeed, AlienGirl.

Maybe, but I dunno. She makes it sound like her appearance etc... would make it difficult for her to run for office, or whatever it was that encompassed this "political career" that now has to probably end. I just wonder if anyone ever heard her mention maybe running for City Council or dog catcher, and now that dream will be less likely to take place.

Don't know.
Tucker said it a few posts up.
It's just a gut feeling.

This question goes beyond Aliengirl or her attitude about abortions.
Are you suggesting that there is no chance at redemption for the sins we have committed in out life?
-
They are still children of God
So was Osama.
I always left loving him up to God.
I wish endless ill on enemies of America, and I put DUmp democrats in that category.
I'm a bad person, but I at least try to be consistent.

You are consistent. That's a plus.

We are told to hate the sin, but love the sinner.
I will offer prayers for anyone that needs them, otherwise, I'm no better than a DUmmie.
You are not a bad person, GOBUCKS, and FWIW, I love you! :blowkiss:

Twice.

It's not our job to judge though, is it?

No, but bro hugs really do make me puke.
And I still don't care when DUmp democrats suffer.
They're no better than muzzies.
At least muzzies believe in some kind of half-assed, perverted god.
DUmp democrats believe in nothing but themselves.

That's more like it.
Actually, I'm the second-nicest person one could ever hope to meet.
I just don't like DUmp democrats. They can all ESAD.

M . . . O . . . U . . . S . . . EEEEEEEEEEEEEE! :fuelfire:
-
You all know DUmmies are my worst enemies...but even them I wouldn't wish the big "C" on.
-
Oh my...terrible news :( I am so sorry, Alien-girl. Godspeed to you through this difficult decision and in the coming months. Please turn to God and away from DU. He will grant you comfort during this. And it sounds like you are surrounded already by good friends, they will not turn their back on you even during the final stages you describe :( Lean on them, their arms are open and willing to care for you during this. I'm sorry again. Peace to you.
-
It has never cost me a thing to show compassion. Even if it is shown for what proved later to be a partial or total untruth I've always been the one to reap the reward. That probably sounds simplistic and naive.
Prayers for you AlienGirl and hopes for a miracle.
-

I'm good for the third one. :cheersmate:
-
I think this is a real one. That kind of cancer is a death sentace and there isn't much a doctor can do .Still I hope that maybe some kind of miracle can come of this and she makes it . It may not be a great life after that but it's still a life.
-
Devastating to read. I will pray for her, what a horrible thing to face.
-

Seconded.
-
How horrible for AlienGirl. Prayers for anyone, left or right, who is facing cancer.
-
Horrible, horrible disease. Prayers out for AlienGirl. Never heard of a cancer of the mouth/tongue like this, but I hated reading her OP. :(

Yep that's true, it doesn't cost anyone but a moment in time to say a prayer for someone.
-
Wow. I am impressed by the outpouring of support for an ideological enemy of most of the people on this site.
Full disclosure: I am what the DUers call a Firebagger. I registered here partly out of curiosity and partly out of the desire to debate those with whom I fundamentally disagree on many issues, hopefully in a civil manner. Most of us are, after all, Americans and proud of it.
What I have seen on this thread is genuine Christianity at work. I'm sure Jesus would be proud of most of you. I know I am, for whatever that's worth.
-
Appreciate the words.
1. We're great people with respect, dignity, and honor. DU would realize that if they weren't so batshit crazy.
2. So far, you seem decent to me. The only problem I have is with your name. The last bit in particular. I'm not really PC, but just the same as we wouldn't allow someone to put the N word in their name, I'm not sure "Gringo" should be acceptable either.
-
Prayers out for AlienGirl.
Cancer is bad under any circumstances, but her's seems to be hopeless from the beginning. I wish her peace and as painfree a time as possible.
-
Here we go again!
Another piety contest.
White light up!

Well, I have to admit that I've never heard of this Conservative Cave until a few days ago.......
Anyhow, I got wind of it from my husband, your new member OG, and was lurking a bit today. Well, the first thing I stumbled on was this particular thread, and the outpouring of sympathy, compassion and general humanitarianism shown here compelled me to register just to make this comment:
A little bit of faith in humanity has been restored for me today, and I have you to thank for that.
May God Bless you all.
-
Prayers up for AlienGirl.

LOL! I grew up in Texas. I'm what everybody used to call "Anglo" there. Hispanics called me "gringo." As far as I am concerned, it's simply descriptive. Now I'm in Ohio, hence, Ohio gringo. It doesn't bother ME. Since I'm white and call myself that, I figure it shouldn't bother anybody else. Maybe I'm wrong.
Ironic that CC would be the first place anyone took exception to it. Nobody on DU even thought twice about it when I used that handle. I was banned for criticizing Democrats, not for my name.

I was banned as well. I made it to three posts. I said that the UN should be evicted from US soil.

The gringo part doesn't bother me a bit, but I might be offended at the first part of your name. :-)

That's as bad as posting that killing the unborn is not a good thing.

I join with the sentiments wishing AG well. As MrsSmith alluded to, maybe AG will realize that True Peace is attainable only through Our Loving God.
As for the two newbies, welcome.
-
Good Luck AlienGirl. We've all been touched in some way by the bitch called cancer, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I hope you find comfort and peace.
GOBUCKS, although I don't agree with you, I appreciate your honesty.
Many (including myself) like to judge DU'ers. Even so, I don't think it's hypocritical to change track and wish a DU'er well in light of such devastating news. I tend to hold the DU "judging" as more of a teasing activity, a back and forth taunting, so to speak. I liken it to the Sox-Yankees rivalry, and personally don't take it that seriously. I'm not a hater.
Anyway, best wishes for Tucker. It does warm my heart to see this outpouring on CC for this poor AlienGirl.

Praying for you, Aliengirl. God be with you.

Not a piety contest, as far as I'm concerned. Some things--most things, really--transcend petty politics. This is a really big mountain for anyone to climb alone.

My stepgrandfather was from Mexico. He used to call me his Little Gringita, even when I was a teenager. There were always fresh flour tortillas to eat in their house. I loved Mexican cheese and when he would go back to visit his family (he & grandma became citizens) he always remembered to bring me some. And Mexican pastries. The ones in the stores here pale in comparison.

332. I hate to say this, but you probably don't want to spend that much of your time posting to the 'Net
We'll miss you , but it's probably best to spend it around actual flesh 'n' blood people.
Ain't it sad. DUmmies spend their lives alienating their families. Then they're alone.
Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

Oooh! Mexican pastries! I grew up in San Antonio. My parents used to take me down to El Mercado and they had these little sugar cookies with all sorts of delectable toppings. Not to mention bunuelos. Good stuff!

Add my compassion to this thread for AlienGirl.
Cancer is mean and hateful. I don't like to see anyone suffer no matter what they may think or say. It's right to send her our prayers that her passing be pain free.
I feel so sorry for her.

I friggin hate cancer. I hate cancer more than anything else I have ever hated before. Matter of fact, I don't think I ever really hated anything before I met cancer.

Firstly, I didn't take much exception to it. Just a tad. :p Also, if nobody else has a problem with it, it's all good.
Secondly, it's natural that nobody would be taking exception to anything racist at DU. (Not that your name is racist) It just has to be directed at the right people.
Welcome to CC, OG. Same goes out to your wife. :cheersmate:

Easy there, buddy.
The main topic is about Aliengirl.
Many of us do have honest concern for her/him, for what she/he is going though.
There shouldn't be anything political in that regards.
It doesn't matter what Aliengirls political beliefs are.
He/she is another person that deserves compassion if the affliction is honest.
No more, no less. Please don't make light of it.
No, I did not BS you.

I'd rather they stick around to serve as a warning to others. :-)

Things are changing fast as I die by inches. Today my voice is hoarse
Every day when I wake up, I can feel that the cancer has grown a little bit. A few days ago, I noticed that swallowing was getting harder: more of my tongue was paralyzed. Then a new sore spot appeared on the right lateral side of my tongue, and a few small hard pearls of bad tissue under the right-side tip. The underside of my chin is hurting now, and down my neck I can feel a hard, intractable mass. A lymph node under my right arm is the size of a small grape; when did that happen? I noticed it yesterday during that self-inventory I find myself doing every night.
Today I woke up with a hoarse, husky voice--inflammation, if I am lucky.
I didn't expect it to go this fast.
Tucker
Man, i wouldn't wish cancer on my worst enemy. I hope and pray that she finds peace.

Full disclosure: I am what the DUers call a Firebagger.
Carry the word back there of what you have seen here. Let those who call us rethugs, barbarians, terrorists etc. see what we really are when you strip away political differences.
Then, if you can spare the years it will take, try to find similar sentiments over there for one of ours. Look back on what was said on DU of Tony Snow, one of the most inoffensive, when his cancer came to light.
See if that shows you whose political opinions are informed by true faith, real hope, and selfless charity.

Hi-5.
