Anybody else watching tonight?
Five things to watch in the Iowa GOP debate
Thursday night's debate on the campus of Iowa State University will be shown on Fox News Channel and will pit eight contenders for the Republican presidential nomination against each other. Expect plenty of Obama-bashing, but the question, as always with events like these, is whether the candidates will violate Ronald Reagan's commandment and take each other on. Here are some things to keep an eye on.

Ron Paul brought his cheering section with him. He was doing good until after the bell when he borrowed a play from Barney Frank's tired old book.
Herman Cain is up and some guy named Huntsman.
-
loud n clear
-
Gingrich knows his numbers but he likes the taste of his feet too much to suit me. I don't trust him to be a dependable leader.
Next, please.
-
Did Pawlenty repeat what Cain just said? Come on, man.
I wish I could see my TV from here. I wonder what Michelle Bachmann is wearing. :naughty:
-
Oooh, that had to sting. +1 to Michelle. :II:
Pawlenty follows with a jab and Bachmann counters. :-)
-
OH! OUCH! And Wallace delivers a knee to Newt's groin. That had to hurt!
I wish I could have transcribed that. It will show up tomorrow.
-
Quite a few polished non-answer on immigration. Ron Paul just sounds like a freakin' fruit loop.
-
Romney still looks like a Ken doll
-
Ron Paul just sounds like a freakin' fruit loop.
If nothing else, at least he's consistent.
Pawlenty and Bachmann attacking each other is going to be the story of the night, though.
-
Pawlenty and Bachmann attacking each other is going to be the story of the night, though.
True. I kinda wish they'd move on. There's plenty of time for that.
-
Ron Paul: Obama is too tough on Iran.
Yeah, he's a ****ing fruit loop.
-
Ron Paul has the foreign and military affairs expertise of the gum on the bottom of my shoe.
No problem with the Iranians building a nuke.
-
This debate is over... it's Paul-bashin' time, I guess.
I got lost about 15 minutes ago.
-
they gave paul enough time to make us all look like lunatics.
-
libertarians are all fine and good, but their philosophy never took national security into consideration

michelle sparkled, to the extent that they gave her camera time

Indeed.

Indeed.
this debate just reinforces my support for bachmann. and I am in an early state -- SC.
-
The problem with having this many people in the pool is that they all sound the same after a while, especially when they only have 60 seconds to "discuss" a topic.
-
byron york just tossed her a hand granade

-
OMG!
she is hitting it out of the park!
-
It's not a debate, and it's barely a discussion.
-
ok. 10 minutes ago, I merely supported michelle. after that answer, I think I will create a temple amd worship her.
-
It's not a debate, and it's barely a discussion.
it is for "other people", pal.

dr nutz is up

dr nutz is very close to eradicating stop signs
-
Ron Paul: :blah:
-
santorum is such a non-entity.
-
Michelle rocks again
-
does anyone care what santorum says?
-
santorum couldn't beat the mildly retarded son of a former governor in order to keep his senate seat.
-
does anyone care what santorum says?
Huntsman, Santorum, Pawlenty... what's the difference?
It's like being stuck in rush-hour traffic.
-
(should I shut up? I just sorta showed up and started spewing stuff)
-
god knows that they are infinitely boring.

-
Talking about the Fed now. RuPaul will have a field day if they ask him anything.
-
dr nutz is still nuts.
-
santorum is a freaking non starter.
-
no child left behind was working fine -- that's why teachers in ATL and PHIL CHEATED.
-
closing comments -- santorum . . . zzzzzzzzz
-
cain -- he is a governmental neophyte. we tried that the last time
-
paul -- I hate that I agree with him so much
-
romney can blow me
-
next?
-
Michelle continues to sparkle
-
pawlenty is a good guy, but he's just boring
-
 If you're going to crib from Stan Lee, at least get it right.
-
huntsman probably did himself some good tonight, but only because he was nowhere last night
-
I am scared. I am agreeing with newt.
-
those were all my original thoughts.
 If you're going to crib from Stan Lee, at least get it right.

Some alcohol will take care of that.
-
michelle won the debate.
-
dude, I am trying. ask anyone!
Some alcohol will take care of that.
-
oh, god. frank luntz is on. i hate this guy, as well as his hamsters that spin the "like" wheel.
-

I do think he was right that Pawlenty screwed himself completely tonight, though.

pawlenty was already history. this debate was between michelle and romney. and she cleaned his clock
-
newt was good tonight, though. he always is in the debate format.
-
Way too much clutter in this debate... too many mouths flapping.

A good answer from Newt, but Wallace's reply was pretty harsh. I felt it all the way over here.
-
we have to work on this, don't we?
-
dr nutz is up
Please tell me why anyone with more than five functional brain cells considers this guy a serious candidate? He's the right's version of Dennis Kucinich. Actually, those two agree on a lot of points.

Your question is rhetorical, but I'll bite -- I think he appeals to those who are disaffected with both political parties.
Ron Paul doesn't have the guts to stay within the Libertarian party, because he knows it's a lost cause, so he's going to cloud the Republican party with his level of insanity.
That kind of hypocrisy apparently doesn't register with the Paulbots, so that's what we get -- scads of folks who are sick of the Washington two-step but somehow believe that a 3rd party is going to make the butt-hurt go away.
In a pig's ass.
-
He sure did bring his troops to the debate last night, didn't he? Everything he did or said got loud applause.
-
Judging by the coverage I've seen this morning, it doesn't seem to have improved the position of any of the front-runners, nor to have turned any of the also-rans into leaders.
-

yes his initial answer was good. wallace's reply was harsh, but it was newts rebuttal at the end that dealt the KO punch. slamming the media for not distinguishing all Rep. candidates from Obama.

my take on the debate, the top runners maintained their pedestal, Bachman, Cain, Romney did no harm. 3 of the bottom feeders, forgot their names because they are meaningless, ate their scraps. paul pleased his followers. and newt, who was thought to be down an out, actually put up a fight and gets my "debate winner" nod. im not saying he put himself on top in the RACE, just the debate. After winning this battle, he still has a long way to go to win the war.
-
Yeah, a lot of people are saying Newt made the most impact in the debate, just as far as debate performance alone goes. It still doesn't make him a viable candidate though.
-
Thanks for this thread, because my TV shit the bed last night. Just curious, how was Wallace harsh?
-
I guess his answer seemed that way at the time. I was not expecting him to stand up to Gingrich.
If you think questions about your record are Mickey Mouse, I'm sorry. I think those are questions that a lot of people want to hear answers to and you're responsible for your record, sir.
-

I think Wallace is an asshole and is into gotcha questions. If I am not mistaken, Cain has lost a bunch of his campaign employees. Who really gives a shit though?
One thing that did irritate me was the fact that the moderators allowed Dr Nutz rebuttal time on practically every question. I bet his air time was far more than Newt, Romney or the rest of the candidates.
-
I watched most of the debate on you tube this morning.
Some did OK. I liked Newt's response to that idiot Wallace. Ron P. still sounds like a moonbat to me.
It's time to start narrowing the field though. I just hope that Romney isn't the nominee next year. If he is, Obama may very well get a second term.
-
Different strokes for different folks. I like Wallace. He's not afraid to ask politicians anything, and he won't step back from his questions. If they don't like him, that's a great + in my book.
-

Yeah, I think Wallace is one of the few reporters who won't just take a non-answer and move on. I like that about him.

I thought the question was stupid. After Newt answered the question, Wallace got his wittie bitty feeling hurt and had to make a counter attack statement. I don't like Wallace nor most journalists. They are always trying to create sensationalism.
Do you have a problem with York asking Bachmann a question about being submissive to her husband? You better believe Hillary wore the pants when it was a family; a man would have never been asked that question. Another chicken shit and rather sexist question if you ask me.
Overall the debate was pathetic in that the panel allowed Paul to hog more of the time than others, and a number of the questions had little substance in defeating Obama.
-
As I said, different strokes....
