A vacation? I don't understand, this makes NO political sense!

Vice President Joe Biden and his wife have escaped the heat and political squabbling of Washington to spend the rest of the week vacationing in the Hamptons.

...

President Obama will follow his number two’s lead later this month when he and his family travel to Martha’s Vineyard for a little R&R. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney confirmed today that, despite the staggering economy, the president still plans to take his annual summer vacation.

Please, spare me the "mobile command post" offerings. This isn't about whether or not he can make long distance phone calls. This is about vacationing while the rest of the nation, if not the entire world, is in the midst of economic meltdown. The DJIA is on a multi-day crash with people's 401K's being devoured, companies barely hire anyone and we're sweating hyper-inflation if bonds go up and/or the fed prints a couple trillion dollars too many.

A vacation?

Repeat after me: OPTICS
Oh My !! (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1712955)

The DUmmies are slamming Obama for his vacation like they did President Bush, almost.

712 days as president, and so far, 339 days of those were not in DC:

176 days on domestic trips

70 days on foreign travel

58 days on vacation

35 days at Camp David

Source: Washington Examiner (http://washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/2011/01/obama-spends-nearly-half-his-presidency-outside-washington-plans-)

IMHO, the more days he isn't occupying the White Hut, the better for the rest of us.

Most of those days at Camp David were like vacation, making a total of 93 days . In less than 3 years, he has taken 3 months off work.  I guess he does support the Socialist European model.

Would that you mindless freaks have given the same courtesy to Bush.  According to you primitives, when Bush vacationed in Crawford, he was completely unable to carry out the office as he would had he stayed in the WH.  No amount of reason would convice any of you that the gov't had made it such that any prez can actually carry on with the daily routine they have anywhere they are.  Suddenly now, there's no question it can be done.

Hypocrites everyone of you.

Might want to read a little closer. Many of the DUmmies are slamming Obama for this vacation. Strange , but true.

Oh, I read it.  A few are, but it still doesn't make up for their foolish comments during the Bush years.  Ask them about it and they'll deny they ever said it.  And those on the thread who are defending Dear Leader, were the same conditions occuring and it was a Republican prez, would be joining the chorus of those asking why he's taking a vacation.  All around, they're hypocrites.

Good find.  Thanks for bringing the thread over.

Yes, I have noticed that. Not quite to openly brandishing torches & pitch forks and advancing on the White Mosque but the mob is beginning to take shape. One might expect a deluge of carved granite to rain down on the island but so far not a cloud in sight.  :o

The idea that he is an inexperienced boob, devoid of any actual ideas or coherent plans beyond a warped variant of wild Keynesian spending sprees (Which we all knew in 2008) is actually beginning to get some traction in the financial press, not of course in the mass media.

Well, isn't that nice, a place where, if I were to show up, they'd probably escort me out.

Go have lunch with Ina Garten, Slo Joe, and choke on the sandwiches.

Optics be damned, he's got 93% of the Black vote, the unions, guilt-laden libs, and academics (Including all their well-indoctirnated students) in his pocket no matter what he does, so he's got about 40% without lifting a finger.

He could get caught screwing a sheep on the WH lawn and it would be the fault of some damned White SOB for letting the sheep out.

Hopefully, the other 60% of the voters will actually have a clue on Election Day.

I'd put that Black vote number at closer to 80% or so, DAT.  A good deal of the hard-working entrepenuers who voted him because he was going to "change" DC are plainly disgusted by the fact that the Obamessiah is the same old shit in a new package.

I think Obama would be getting more of a "pass" so to speak, if he went up to Camp David for a week, rather than Martha's Vineyard.

Nor matter how anyone tries to explain it away, Martha's Vineyard is primarily known as a vacation spot for the rich....not the well-off, but the rich-rich.

Yesterday, Shep Smith said on his show that Sarkozy cancelled his vacation on the French Riviera and returned because of France's economy. Cameron cancelled a trip due to the problems in London. I think he mentioned someone else, too.

In the next breath, he said that Pres Obama is not going to cancel his vacation and Congress members are already gone, while the US has it's worst credit rating ever, and the stock market is continuing it's record breaking falls.

Question is, will MSM be critical too?

I'd say he has more like 45% without lifting a finger, even if the Dow Industrials are at 500 on Election Day.

I want to know what the hell is at Martha's Vineyard that keeps all these rich people and presidents coming back year after year. Do they have high class hookers? A casino? Underground fight club? I was always under the impression that it is just very expensive houses on a small island. I would rather stay home and do nothing then to travel and do nothing.

Good question.  Maybe rich snobs get off from being around other rich snobs.  I have not a clue.

For the Kennedys, it's always been the chicks, in a convenient place away from the filth and stench of Boston.

How typical...they're more concerned with political APPEARANCES than the fate of the country. Most selfish superficial people on the planet.

For the Kennedys, it's always been the chicks, in a convenient place away from the filth and stench of Boston.

As far as I can tell, the chance of hobnobbing with the Kennedys, in bed or possibly not, is the only reason that some people want to go there.  There is a privacy aspect, since it's basically full of rich snobs plus the semi-normal people who keep the place up for them which are a rather closed community, and it is an island so access is limited, but unless you're actually trying to get in bed with a Kennedy (shudder - not the most attractive women around by a damn' sight) there really isn't anything to DO with all that privacy.
