Title: House and Senate GOP Super-Committee Members Named!
Post by: DumbAss Tanker on August 10, 2011, 01:49:50 PM
According to CNN:

House Speaker Boehner chose:
Jeb Hensarling of Texas,
Dave Camp of Michigan, and
Fred Upton of Michigan;

Senate Minority Leader McConnell picked:
Jon Kyl of Arizona,
Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, and
Rob Portman of Ohio.

All supposed to be fiscal conservatives, I'm not familiar with them except Kyl and Toomey to a limited degree.

At least McCain isn't on it!

Which ones of those named voted against raising the debt?

Just Toomey. Other 5 voted for it.  :hammer:

OK, so the "fix" is in then...We know what the democrats want, tax increases and a forever rising debt ceiling. And the establishment republicans are going to go along with them.

In thefuture the market on percious metals will be gauged in terms like this "gold is at $6.24 oz...lead is at $186 a lb."

Since the bill ultimately passed, meaning a majority of the GOP voted for it and both Boehner and McConnell wanted them to, and the same bill actually set up this very super-committee, I suppose that was pretty inevitable.

Clockwise, from top left: Kyl, Portman, Toomey,
Upton, Hensarling and Camp were selected by Republican leaders.

John Boehner and Mitch McConnell's super committee picks (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0811/61028.html#ixzz1UemYa6XX)

Quote
Top Republican congressional leaders have appointed six conservatives to the “super committee” that is charged with reducing the deficit by $1.5 trillion over the next decade.

Speaker John Boehner has appointed Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.), Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and Republican Conference Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) as the House GOP members of the panel.

Hensarling will be co-chairman of the committee. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell also announced Wednesday the Senate Republican members: Jon Kyl of Arizona, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Rob Portman of Ohio. >>>

On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced the Senate Democratic members of the committee: Patty Murray of Washington, John Kerry of Massachusetts and Max Baucus of Montana. >>>

Ryan said in a statement that he asked Boehner not to consider him for the committee, so he could focus on long term policies aimed at reducing the debt. “If we are truly going to put the country’s fiscal house in order, it will not be enough to temporarily reduce what Washington spends. We must permanently reform the process by which working Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars are spent,” Ryan said. >>>

Freshmen also pushed to have one of their 87 members appointed to the commission. Last week, Rep. Tom Marino (R-Pa.) drafted a letter to Boehner arguing that freshmen were essential in passing the GOP’s agenda, and deserved representation on the committee. Boehner’s picks are likely to disappoint those who wanted House freshmen represented on the panel.

Hmm... hard core leftists versus ... RINO's? I wonder how this'll turn out.

Pelosi still has yet to name her three.  God know what an assortment of hard-core Socialists that will be.

DU is furious over the Baucus selection. A lot aren't happy with Kerry either.

DU is furious over the Baucus selection. A lot aren't happy with Kerry either.

Baucus has the odd lucid moment, but Kerry has his seat for as long as he wants it and doesn't actually have a functioning brain cell, I wouldn't think he'd do anything but take orders from Reid.  Can't see why they'd have a problem with that, unless it signals a lack of faith in Reid.

ETA:  Of course there are two things that will divert Kerry from Party orders, one is blatant and outrageous flattery and the other is anything that might be to his own personal financial interest.

Update, the rest of the list courtesy of San Fran Nan, aka Lady Skeletor:

Assistant Democratic Leader James Clyburn (D-S.C.),
Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.), and
House Budget Committee Ranking Member Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.).

All reportedly highly loyal to Pelosi herself, I don't know much about them myself.  I've heard of Clyburn a bit.

Clyburn is a race card player.  He had said that republicans were against raising the debt ceiling because Obama is black.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

It is. At some point, either these twits get their act together and try to figure out a way to work together FOR WHAT'S BEST FOR THE COUNTRY instead of what is best for themselves, or we are going to go down the tubes.

None of these people are going to work together, outside of their respective party. Each leader picked someone is who "true" to the party line. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, when there are many who vote, but they only have until Thanksgiving to come up with a plan to fix things - or at least attempt to fix.

In three months, we will still be in the same position we were 2 weeks ago.

If they just made a mandatory drug test for everyone receiving welfare, there would be a huge savings in the budget.

The problem with what you're saying is that both parties do more-or-less believe they're doing what's good for the country, they just have totally conflicting visions of that.  Each party sees the other as not just an obstacle to be overcome on the way to their vision, but as an active opponent who is trying to move things in the WRONG direction instead of just keeping them from moving in the RIGHT direction.

MSB is saying that if you can't move things in the right direction, it's better for them not to move at all rather than go the wrong way entirely.

Obviously I was having a comprehension problem when I read MSB's post.  :thatsright:

I think I'm just so fed up with all of the constant BS, the blaming, the "you are a racist if you don't like Obama" mantra, BS Congressional investigations that are so unnecessary, not accomplishing anything but the constant drain of public funds, all of it.

This commission of 12 is going to cost money somehow, and for what? Nothing.

Wish we could kick ALL of them out, and start over.

Hi,

Once again I have to say I believe Rush is right.  He said today that the committee is designed to deadlock, just look at who got appointed to it.  The goal of the libs is to get the deadlock and then force the republicans into a tax increase because some of the manadatory so called cuts will be so unpalatable that tax increases become the lesser of the two evils.  More I think about it, I suspect Limbaugh is probably correct.

Don't know if I see any way out of it other than to demand a vote on a balanced budget amendment first.  Republicans can say that until a balanced budget amendment is passed with some teeth in it they will not support any tax increases.  In the past every time they have tried to trade tax increases for spending cuts the taxes get raised but the cuts just never seem to happen.

Why Boehner allowed them to kick the can down the road I will never understand.  The public wants the Obama agenda stopped in it's tracks the sooner the Republicans realize that the better.  You don't see Marco Rubio backing off, and those in the house who voted against the deal.  I would recommend the rest of the Republicans who supported the debt cieling increase start by taking a testorone pill with their breakfast each morning.

Deb, I am proud to be a racist Obama hating, cut the spending, absolutely no increase in the debt limit, BS Congressional investigations hating, thug conservative. (Their definition.)

So there!

Correct...Remenber Bush l saying, "Read my lips, no new taxes." and the democrats used that later to help elect Clinton.

The lying democrat bastards promised Bush l that if he would raise taxes that they would balnace the budget. Well, Bush l didn't exactly raise taxes, he just did away with what some called "tax loopholes". ....and the damn democrat bastards spent the extra tax dollars and didn't balance the budget. So, YEAH! I don't trust or believe anything a democrat has to say.
