I think Sharpton has the weight advantage but Hitchens has the reach...

Wow! Two people who's opinions I could care less about are debating on something neither is capable of grasping?
I am so somewhere else. I started getting Sci Fi in HD last week. Can't wait for BSG and the Doctor!!!!!

Hitchens a Marxist? Huh?

Marxist-lite.
He proudly wears his economic and social progressive credentials on the outside. His redeeming virtue is he understands that if Islamo-fascism is left unchallenged its violence will supercede the peaceful resolution of the debate between Left and Right.

Hitchens a Marxist? Huh?
You betcha sure. Marx was Hitchens secondary hero after his primary hero, Trotsky, whom he felt a need to selectively renounce due to Trotsky's inability to deny Leninism. It gets complicated.

I pretty sure that Christopher Hitchens no longer subscribes to Marxism. That said, he is, despite his stance on the Iraq conflict, a lefty... and I'm sure that fact makes him a Marxist to many here.
:naughty:

I think this thread makes you unqualified to present yourself as a credible skeptic.

The debate is interesting and fun to watch even if you don't agree with either of the debaters. Both are sharp and full of wit.
I think that Christopher Hitchens won the debate, but Al Sharpton had an interesting angle which Hitchens seemed almost caught off guard by... the idea that even though Hitchens titled his book God is not Great, the main arguments in the book are arguments against religion, not theism. Pretty interesting stuff. Ultimately, though, Sharpton seems to run out of points to argue and ends up more or less repeating himself through the last half of the debate.
Despite the fact that Sharpton is reviled here at CC, I could see many believers here cheering him on in this debate against Hitchens.
There was a funny moment after the debate. After the debate, people in the audience were allowed to take turns asking questions. The first person to the microphone used the opportunity to insult Hitchens, his penis, and England. :-)

Well, perhaps someone else could present me.

You don't even know the meaning of the word abstract, how do you propose to wrap your mind around big-people talk?

If you're suggesting that the word abstract has only one meaning, then perhaps you're the one unfamiliar with the word.

Ah so you were comparing the apples of symbolic representations to the oranges of psychological figments.
