Six Republican state senators risk losing their seats in the recall effort, which was spurred by controversial budget reforms undertaken by the state's new GOP governor, Scott Walker. Over the objections of Democrats and their allies in labor, new Republican majorities in the Legislature teamed up with Walker to eliminate most collective bargaining rights for public employees.
If Democrats can win four of the six races on the ballot today, they'll retake control of the state Senate and give a boost to a national party sorely in need of one.
A new poll indicates that they may be within striking distance of doing so. Democratic pollster Public Policy Polling found one Democratic challenger with a double-digit lead over the GOP incumbent; two other challengers were behind but within the poll's margin of error. The survey was commissioned by liberal blog Daily Kos.
According to Wisconsin law, elected officials can only be subject to a recall if they've served one full year of their term. That's why Walker isn't yet facing one, though groups are preparing to launch one in 2012.

I guess today's the day to see if the liberal temper tantrum in the People's Republic of Wisconsin pays off for the Democratic Party. Stay tuned.

So it's worthless.

So it's worthless.
Bingo.
-
Didn't Kos get into a slapfight with PPP about some work they were paid for that they claim was never done (or the results were fabricated to the point of being laughable)?

That reminds me of a joke. A liberal pollster knocked on the door of a home and asked if the resident would be voting for their candidate in the upcoming election. The old lady looked at the liberal pollster and said, "I wouldn't vote for him if he was the only one on the ballot. He's a liar, a known theif, cheats on his wife, takes candy from babies, and smells funny." The pollster walked back to the car where an intern waited to track the results and said, "Put that one down as undecided."

I recalled something like that so I looked it up. It was Research 2000.
Markos Moulitsas, who first fired his former polling partner Research 2000 in June and subsequently filed suit alleging that polling conducted by that firm was fraudulent, announced this afternoon that his DailyKos website will soon resume polling with two new partners: Public Policy Polling (PPP) for "horserace" polling in statewide contests and another pollster to be named later for national surveys. The first survey, to be fielded in Delware, will be released next week.

An FYI if you don't want to keep JSOnline up during the results, IMO @steveegg is the best follow on Twitter for WI elections.

The DEMS won 2 out of the six.
-
Republicans retain control! Even if the Rats win the next two, the GOP will have a 17 to 16 majority in the WI Senate.

Let's remember something here--the Democratics go through this next week, when three of their "runners" face recalls. :fuelfire:

I thought it was two, not three. I could be wrong, though.

I did not know that. The anguish from the DUmp should be palpable and quite fun to watch.

They've already started whining that the results "don't reflect the will of the people".
Isn't that what an election is?

Dem spokesman accuses GOP of dirty tricks in Waukesha vote count
A state Democratic Party spokesman accused a Republican official Tuesday night of tampering with votes in the tight 8th Senate District recall race.
With 10 of 11 Waukesha County wards still out -- including all of those in Menomonee Falls -- party spokesman Graeme Zielinski said, "We believe the election in this contest has been tampered with by Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus.
