This is absolutely insane. TONS of cocaine allowed to flow unimpeded in exchange for info on other cartels? Going on for years? WTF?
Is there any amount of accountability in the DEA? Does anyone outside that agency know what goes on?
I wonder if they even bothered to track what they allowed in once it crossed the border or if looking the other way was a wholesale deal.

We send them guns, they send us drugs. Seems like Obama's plan is working perfectly.

According to the article, this has been going on for at least ten years.

According to the article, this has been going on for at least ten years.
According to the court documents, Mexican lawyer Humberto Loya-Castro, another high-level Sinaloa cartel leader, had his 1995 U.S. drug-trafficking case dismissed in 2008 after serving as an informant for 10 years for the U.S. government.
Guzman and the Zambadas allegedly provided agents of the Drug
Enforcemen Administration, FBI and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement with information about other Mexican drug traffickers through Loya-Castro.
"Loya himself continued his drug trafficking activities with the knowledge of the United States government without being arrested or prosecuted," the court documents state.
Sounds like Slick Willy and his administration worked out this deal.

Yeah, this one sounds like it runs deep into the bureaucratic culture by now. Makes me wonder how many more really bright ideas these yahoos have run with over the years.

A questionable proposition in a short term arrangement for mutual benefit, but justifiable if the win was going to be big enough. Letting it go for over ten years is simply unfathomably stupid and morally bankrupt.
