Edited on Sun Aug-07-11 03:14 PM by andym
In theory they need only 40 votes in the Senate to block everything we do and potentially take apart the federal government. Right now they have more than that: 47 seats in the Senate and 48 seat majority in the House.
They are held captive by ideologues who wish to disassemble the federal government ("Government is the problem.") We are represented by people used to compromising to get things done.
How can we solve unemployment or even reasonably think about solving long-term solvency problems (some of which could be solved by National Health Care to hold down medical costs) in the current situation?
It is not possible at the moment.
How can we sell a vision of how to fix things? We need bold leaders who will explain the problems clearly and why our solutions are better than the GOP's. In response these leaders we need strong demonstrations of public support. We need this now or the situation may get even worse (especially if the GOP gets enough power to implement their own solutions. In the case of Republican majorities, it is highly unlikely that 40 democratic votes in the Senate would block the funding of government to try to get their way. The only thing they could do is block further tax cuts (if they had the will to do so).

I hope the dems will explain their "solutions" clearly. We have seen what their solutions have brought us, huge deficits, high unemployment and on and on. I'm sure people will line up for even more 0bamanomics. :mental:

6. I'm hoping this whole phone-hacking scandal shuts down Fox News.
Then people will wake up and realize that we've been ****ing lied to the last ten years.
How is it that you claim no one really watches Faux, yet they have so much control over people?

The andy primitive's right; we need a majority in the House, a supermajority in the Senate, and a lease on the White House, to get us out of this mess.
By "we," of course I mean "we," "us," not the primitives.
-
Compromise to a DUmmie and his progressive(communist) politicians means making outrageous demands and then settling for 1/2 of what they want....then like radioactive material... they come back later making the same demands plus a few more again in a couple of years and get 1/2 of that. They hold on to what they get and keep coming back for more until they get what they want plus some.

While it's possible that all of that could come in 2012, and growing more likely by the day, it might not be until the elections of 2014 that we get the supermajority in the Senate. I think that the SCOTUS will declare Obamacare unconstitutional in total before that.

No, what you Progressives really need is Samsonite. You'll be doing plenty of packing in 2012.

They've stolen that much?????!!!!!!....Oh stupid me. I forgot. The one from New Orleans stole so much he needed a chest type freezer to keep it in and a commondeered ARMY truck to save it after hurricane Katrina. I guess he didn't want all that cold hard cash to spoil.

Didn't the Dummies have a majority in the House, a near super majority in the Senate, and the Office of the President in January, 2009? Isn't that how the free fall began?

No, the numbers of Dems getting their asses sent home in November of 2012.
I'll say it now--Obama probably lost the 2012 election at 8 PM last Friday, especially if S&P downgrades the debt rating again next February, like they warned they would today.

I agree with you. Even if the unwashed masses don't even understand the ramifications of the downgrade, they will know it was unprecedented, and happened on Obama's watch. And, when Bob Schieffer questions if this is a one-term presidency, President Pitching Wedge is in trouble: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/cbs-bob-schieffer-to-david-axelrod-on-obama-is-this-a-one-term-presidency/

What if the democrats themselves pitch Obama out on his ass at the democrat convention? Who you think will take his place? Hitlery? Scary Kerry? Al Bore? Who?
-
Didn't they have this last year? The thing is, no one wanted the shit sandwich that they shoved down our throats. Hence, November.
As for Fox News shutting down, you've lost your media monopoly, dimwits. You're not getting it back, dimwits. Got it?

It might help their cause if they'd knock off the crazy talk. Nobody with a job and a functioning brain cell buys "I'm form the Government and I'm here to help you."

I've seen threads pitching for all of the following: Feingold, Elizabeth Warren, Kucinich, Bernie Sanders, Al Franken, and wait for it..................Alan Grayson.

That is standard practice for the pro government folks. Examples... look at the anti-smoking nazis or education. They start with a little restriction, usually "for the chiiiiildren" and in the end we end up with either more government restriction or throwing money down a rat hole or both.

Oooooh... The old "our message isn't getting out, meme". Well guess what dummies? Your message got out and wasn't well recieved. Witness the 2010 election.

I've seen several posts from the idiots at DUnceland that talk about how a national healthcare plan (aka "free" healthcare in DUmmie-speak) would help the economy and, if I remember correctly, help cut government spending. How do they think this is possible? I'm not looking for jokes or sarcasm.
Well, okay, if it's a good joke post away, but really I'm looking for the serious answer of how they seriously believe that if the government spends more money it will help cut government spending.

They are dummies Chuck. Logic, reason, and even sanity sometimes don't exist there. The only thing that matters to them is that there is free money provided by the government. They are entitled to that money. That is the whole dummie world.
The really sad thing is that these idiots are allowed to vote.

It isn't possible, they are simply engaging in magical thinking, like underwear gnome math. There is simply no way in Hell to stand up a trillion-dollar-plus program without ponying up the trillion dollars to pay for it on the balance sheet, and it isn't there now, so where would that come from? Apparently the DUmmies think it's going to come from Santa Claus or Obama's Stash.

What Tanker said. The theory is that, once government takes over, the entire insurance process can be streamlined. There will be no need to advertise, pay insurance execs, and all those redundant claims processors, you get the idea. Never mind that the unemployment rate will go up. And just ignore the fact that government has the best track record for screwing up everything that it touches.

They are believing assertions based on assumptions that have no foot in practical reality.
In essence the argument that by providing free healthcare we will have to spend a lot less for long term care because everyone is healthier, cancer is discovered early and treated and so on.
It presumes that peoples actions and practices will stay the same as now except for a couple of changes for the better...semi annual check ups.
That of course is absurd and the mistake all liberals make because they wish to deny the basic flaws of human nature.
What you will have is useless trips to a facility for every sniffle and ache, you know like what happens in ERs now with those that are on the dole.
It is all a charade anyways, the dollars are not even an issue.
Lib politicians see it as the way to become permanently in power and DUmmies and their ilk see it as a way to escape from the real world of working for a living.

7. ....The idea is to eventually get one payer to force reasonable medical prices down the throats of the providers.
I present to you a democrat.
All the doctors will suddenly become keenly interested in fishing and golf.

...or just go into another line of work or profession. I know of one doctor that started repairing starters and alternators. Had a big business when he passed away.

Exactly.
