Title: Navy-Contracted Vessel Fires Warning Shots on Iranian Boats

A vessel contracted by the Navy in the Persian Gulf fired warning shots Thursday on two Iranian fast boats, FOX News has learned.

The Westward Venture, a ship contracted by the U.S. Military Sealift Command to carry military cargo to Kuwait, fired upon the boats Thursday after attempts to get Iranian boats' attention failed.

A Navy security team, armed with M16 rifles and .50-caliber machine guns, was onboard at the time the warning shots were fired.

The ship was about 50 miles off the coast of Iran when the fast boats approached. The Westward Venture attempted to make bridge-to-bridge contact to warn the fast boats that they were too close.

They are just daring us to start a shooting war with them aren't they?

The Iranians don't have the guts to fire the first shot...sh they are poking us with a stick waiting for us to react so they can claim to be the victim of a bully.

I say we bitch slap them and get it over with.

we're outsourcing the Navy?   :o

Come here.......a little closer........ :hammer: No we're not.  :hammer:

There are just so many ships in the US Navy, mostly warfighting ships now. There are just so many MSC ships................Anybody want to take a stab where all these ships went and who did it???

The primitives must be in a large poo flinging contest.............think I'll make the paddle over........well once the outsourced boat gets here

dude, relax.  I meant a certain type of craft, and only until the littoral combat ship was commissioned.  sometimes, I
assume everyone is thinking exactly what I am thinking.

(after more thought)

I am on the record here and at TOS as having a certain amount of apprehension over having a blue water navy in places like the persian gulf in the first place.  The Navy is doing a outstanding job there, but that just isn't the sort of thing that it was really designed for.  It was designed to defeat the soviet navy;  this is a totally different threat.

This was a cargo vessel, not a vessel of war.

The primitives haven't noticed this yet for the most part...............they will be all over the fact that it was a contracted navy vessel meaning the Navy is stretched to thin

I may well be out of my depth (no pun intended) in this discussion, but I was under the impression that the  LCS  (http://www.defense-update.com/products/l/lcs-independence.htm) was intended to be a close to shore combat vessel.

The LCS is a swallow water ship.

The ship that fired upon the boats was a cargo ship taking supplies to Kuwait.

I already fell on my sword for wandering off the "cargo ship" part of the discussion from the get go, and started my own little topic.

I googled for just what they used to harrass the cargo ship and found this picture. It looks like a PT boat type of ship. If they had wanted to, Putting a torpedo into the side of the ship would not have been to hard against a cargo vessel armed with nothing but small arms.

Some other pics that came up show boats that most rednecks would drool over or have a bigger one in their yard.

The entire crew of the Westward Venture needs to be immediately transferred for further training in the operation of various weaponry. There is no excuse for them missing the target(s).
