Title: Stuff Conservatives Should Actually Like, Section B (Dexter)
Post by: Duke Nukum on July 27, 2011, 10:05:28 PM
Klaven on the Culture (http://pajamasmedia.com/andrewklavan/2011/07/27/stuff-conservatives-should-actually-like-section-b/)

After weeks of such ego-healing balm, I am ready to return to the fray with my second offering:  Dexter, Showtime’s killer serial about a serial killer who tortures and dismembers his victims for good rather than for evil. All the following comments apply only to the first season, the only one I’ve watched. There’ll be no important spoilers.

---

It's a little rambly but pro-Dexter. I have to decide if I will get Showtime again in time for the next season.

Meh, I'll stick with my plan A for now, picking up a copy of Slaughterhouse 5 which I've yet to read.
This looks promising though, on the list.

That doesn't even make any sense.

I believe he's a killer of serial killers.

I believe he's a killer of serial killers.

Correct, he is a forensic investigator who punishes the guilty rather, than say, allow them to go through the State of Floriada court system.

Dexter's adopted father, Harry, saw he had the affect of a psychopath (a flat or blunted affect). Harry was also a cop who saw some bad guys escape justice so he decided to give Dexter a code to fit in with normal society and turned him loose on the bad guys who escaped justice.

Sadly, when Harry saw that his son was still a monster, albeit one with a code, it was too much for him and it hastened his death from some disease, I forget what. Probably cancer.

I love Dexter!  If he lived next door to me I would feel safe and secure.  He makes me almost wish I was a sociopath.

Well, Ive downloaded all 5 seasons. And Ive watched the first season.

Very addictive. Not as mesmerizing as Shadowline was, but still pretty darn good.

Thanks for the tip.  :II:

Skip last season.  It has Julia Stiles in it.

I'm up to episode 8 in season 5 and have yet to find a reason to hate Julia Stiles or the character she plays.  In fact, I hope she gets those bastards and makes them suffer.  Does she do something that puts Dexter in jeopardy, or do you just not appreciate her acting talents?
*Wow, they seem to really hate her at the IMDB forums too.

If I remember correctly, the actor who plays Dexter cheated on his wife with her while they were working on the show.

If I remember his wife had already been murdered before he even met her.  Now I am really confused.

Not Dexter the character, Michael C. Hall, the actor who plays Dexter, had an affair with Julia Stiles, or so the rumor goes.

But do we really NEED a reason to despise Julia Stiles?

Every time she wrinkles her nose in that season of Dexter a cute little baby puppy dies.  She is just pure evil.

From what I have read Jennifer Carpenter (Michael C. Hall's wife) was friends with Julia Stiles and hung out with her on set.  She was shocked that Stiles would bang her husband right in front of her like that.  I would direct you to the post where I explained in detail all of the evil Stiles has made in this world but that would require me to spend about 5 minutes searching through posts about her and cause projectile vomiting.

Harry had cancer but was getting better. What killed him was a "angel of death" nurse. Dexter recognized her for what she was since they were they same ( except for Dexter's code ). She was one of his first.

I had no interst in watching the show because it just sounded gawd awful but my ex girl friend insisted. I watched it so she would quit nagging me to. I was hooked from the start. Earlier this year I got Darkly Dreaming Dexter on my kindle. That is the book it is based on. It was a "ok" book that I can not really reconmend to anyone. The TV show is MUCH better.

Yeah, I listened to all of the books. They are okay but the TV show is superior.
