New Rules for Making Hybrid Animal-Humans

Published July 22, 2011

In the 1958 film "The Fly" a man's body is accidentally merged with that of a fly. But science advances have made cross-species experimentation more realistic, a possibility that has some researchers calling for guidelines.

Scientific experiments that insert human genes or cells into animals need new rules to ensure they are ethically acceptable and do not lead to the creation of "monsters," a group of leading British researchers said on Friday.

While humanizing animals in the name of medical research offers valuable insights into the way human bodies work and diseases develop, clear regulations are needed to make sure humanization of animals is carefully controlled.

Extreme scenarios, such as putting brain cells into primates to create talking apes, may remain science fiction, but researchers around the world are constantly pushing boundaries.

Chinese scientists have already introduced human stem cells into goat fetuses and U.S. researchers have studied the idea of creating a mouse with human brain cells -- though they have not actually done so.

Wait, wait, I believed I saw an article about an experiment in milk cows where Genes were being placed in the cows from humans to make their milk very close to human breast milk.

Also Hogs Kidneys are close to ours and for 40+ years scientists have been experimenting to find a way to transplant hog kidneys to humans.

Never know when the anamals on earth can save us humans--------Antidote for snake venom comes from the sakes that are milked.

Actually, putting rat brains in DUmmies would improve their average IQ and work ethic... wouldn't do much for the Cheetos addiction though.
