4. OK. I guess Im not really sure then...
I am discussing with someone who is ECSTATIC about the fact that Florida is going to drug test welfare recipients. He acts as if all welfar recipients are "urban" but I am pretty sure I know exactly what that means. I am not the best at arguing this stuff. I tend to get a bit too emotional. You guys are soooo smart. Oh and corporate welfare is ok cause they are the "backbone of our economy" whereas the poor people that get"welfare" or "free money" as he calls it are just leaches on society and contribute nothing to society.

Hey I am all for making corporate CEOs get drug tests also before they are given their stimulus checks if that helps at all.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

If a primitive bashes rural southerners on welfare, the primitive had better remember that those rural southerners usually are the same race as Frederick Douglass was, and it's no secret who they voted for.

If a primitive bashes rural Great Plainsians on welfare, the primitive had better remember that those rural Great Plainsians are the main source of Democrat votes around here.

Numerous studies have investigated differences in the incidence and causes of poverty between rural and urban areas of the United States. Official poverty rates are consistently higher in nonmetropolitan areas than in metropolitan locations, and highest in remote rural counties (Miller and Weber 2003; Joliffe 2003). The characteristics of poor rural families differ in important respects from poor families in urban areas. Poor rural families are more likely to be employed and have two adults in the household than are poor families in urban areas (Rural Policy Research Institute 2001). Still, rural economies may provide fewer opportunities for high-wage jobs or promotions, especially as rural economies have experienced declines in natural resource-based and manufacturing jobs. Rural residents also may face barriers in obtaining and retaining employment due to lack of public transportation and limited childcare availability (Rural Policy Research Institute 2001).

Differences in the local economies and poverty rates of rural areas suggest that there would be rural–urban differences in the use of public programs designed to support working low-income families, for example, childcare subsidies and food stamps. Since passage of the 1996 welfare law changes, these work support programs have become an increasingly important part of America's anti-poverty policy. Studies have found differences in the use of various public assistance programs in rural versus urban areas. Hirschl and Rank (1999) note findings from several of their studies showing lower participation rates for food stamps and Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) in rural counties. One would rather expect higher usage due to higher poverty rates and relatively more working poor in these areas. However, willingness to participate in public assistance programs may reflect social and cultural influences, as well as demographic and economic differences across the rural–urban spectrum.

In 2003, 20% of welfare recipient families were rural.

The thread is all about "urban" is code for black, so it is really all about racism  :whatever:

Child's play. Know-it-all nadin could google that up in fifteen seconds, and toss in the definition of "becquerel" to boot.

I am sure there are patterns to this that we are missing also -- we don't have a PhD in sociology afterall.

Yeah so somehow in the mind of a leftist that means it should be ignored same as urban crime that is black on black or gang related.

Guess what lurking DUmbasses, trying to pretend something doesn`t exist doesn`t make it go away.
Your beliefs have destroyed the potential value of millions of those that you claim to care for.
Remove the stigma of something and you will get more and more of it.
Instead of being proud to have made their way through life you have left them little more then wild animals with no hope.

This is either a mole or yet another trying to break the stupidity barrier.

Guessing here, but odds are more than 30% of THEM are urban dwellers and illegals.
