US Defence Secretary Robert Gates has recommended the top military commander in Iraq, General David Petraeus, be appointed head of US Central Command.

CentCom covers an area from the Horn of Africa into central Asia and includes all operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Gen Petraeus's appointment is subject to the approval of the US Senate.

He would replace Navy Adm William Fallon, who stepped down in March after a reported split with President George W Bush over his policy on Iran.

this is not good news at all.

This is great you dumbass IDJIT

Because he doesn't even follow or know about the Constitution.

Ron Paul asks on the record General PETRAEUS if the United States will ask Congress according to the CONSTITUTION before it decides to bomb IRAN. They answer hum, mmm, uh, oh, hmmm RON PAUL then SILENCES them by saying the answer should be a definate NO!

4. I only wish the Senate would call Fallon forward to come to committee
and ask why he stepped down.

Me too....................cause IIRC he said that Iran was not the reason he retired and that he also did, does and will support *

3. Agreed
This story made me queasy, especially after hearing Ritter on Steph's show the other day.

Maybe I'm delusional but I just don't think they'll get away with it again.

I'm thinking most of the Joint Chief's know that the military is stretched, if not entirely broken.

 again

Yes................Delusional, we can agree on

6. Not good at all. Impeachment of BushCheneyCo could have prevented this type of spawning.
A Wesley Clark, he is not.

A big clue with neon lights around it (Iran) that they are planning something desperate.

Thank the lord that he's not

PETRAEUS' IRAQ WMD DECEPTION: How the General Earned His Stripes With Bush-Cheney

In the last few days, it's come to light that Gen. Petraeus was the original source for incorrect information released to the U.S. media in May 2003 that mobile biological warfare trailers had been located in Iraq. False intelligence findings were indeed substituted for a 122-page DIA report suppressed by the Pentagon.

During the next year, the Bush-Cheney Administration continued to make false assertions that Saddam Hussein had a biotoxins program in place before the invasion, and that certain trailers found in Iraq proved that claim.

We now learn that a team of Defense Intelligence Agency investigators concluded on May 26 that the trailers found had no connection to a biowarfare program, but, nonetheless, Pentagon spokesmen and the Administration continued to make unfounded allegations that the mobile labs had been manufacturing anthrax, smallpox, and other deadly germs.

Gen. Petraeus appears to have taken no steps to correct the record after he falsely stated to reporters on May 13 that there is a "reasonable degree of certainty that this is in fact a mobile biological agent production trailer."

We should all ask why this part of Petraeus' history has been glossed over. Why has Congress and the media not pointed this out about the General before?

"Ass-kissing Little Chicken Shit" tapped to replace Fallon as CENTCOM Commander
Advertisements [?]This nickname was, of course, given to Patraeus by none other than Admiral Fallon, who resigned as CENTCOM Commander under
protest of Bush's ME warmongering, particularly related to attacking Iran.

*******************************************
Gates taps Petraeus to lead Central Command
RAW STORY
Published: Wednesday April 23, 2008

Army Gen. David Petraeus, the four-star general who led troops in Iraq for the past year, will be nominated by President Bush to be the next commander of U.S. Central Command, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Wednesday.

Gates also announced that Bush will nominate Army Lt. Gen. Ray Odierno to replace Petraeus in Baghdad.

Gates' recommendation must go to President George W. Bush, who will then send the nomination to the U.S. Senate.

If confirmed by the Senate, he would replace Navy Adm. William Fallon, who abruptly stepped down in March after a magazine reported that he was at odds with President Bush over Iran policy. Fallon said the report, while not true, had become a distraction.

At a hastily arranged Pentagon news conference, Gates said the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and other problems in the Central Command area of responsibility, demand knowledge of how to fight counterinsurgencies as well as other unconventional conflicts.

"I don't know anybody in the U.S. military better qualified to lead that effort," he said, referring to Petraeus.

Another reporter asked if these moves signified a "stay the course" strategy, which Gates didn't deny.

Just have to break the DUspeak code.

If the DUmmies hate it...then it's probably a good idea for the entire country.

If the DUmmies think something is great and wonderful...then it's probably bad for the country.

Why would that moron Paul ask a general a question like this?   Yet another demonstration on how Dr. clueless is completely unfit for the position of CIC.
