When 18-year-old Tyell Morton put a blow-up sex doll in a bathroom stall on the last day of school, he didn't expect school officials to call a bomb squad or that he'd be facing up to eight years in prison and a possible felony record.
The senior prank gone awry has raised questions of race, prosecutorial zeal and the post-Columbine mindset in a small Indiana town and around the country, The Indianapolis Star reported in its Tuesday editions.
Legal experts question the appropriateness of the charges against Morton, and law professor Jonathan Turley at George Washington University posed a wider question about Morton's case on his legal blog.

The only reason they had for calling the bomb squad that I can figure out is that the kid came into the school with a package and left without it. He didn't make a bomb threat or leave something that was meant to look like a bomb. Discipline action for bringing a sex doll into school is appropriate but not felony charges. The DA is an idiot if he sticks with the felony charge. Even if he seeks no jail time as the article indicates, that felony will follow that kid for the rest of his life. Over a high school prank?

A janitor at Rushville Consolidated High School saw Morton run away from the school May 31, and security footage showed a person in a hooded sweatshirt and gloves entering the school with a package and leaving five minutes later without it, according to court documents.
That would scare me!

At what age is a child expected to have their brain kick in to Adult mode??? Or what we consider the Adult mind to be?????
Do we ever loose that child mind at any age????? Do Adults not pull pranks on each other, do males not have their toys, females at any age that still collects Dolls??? Only difference I can see is the cost of the toy and the ability to pay for it.
Do you RC know of any adult that still laughs their butt off at a 3 Stooges Movie, ever met a male that spends a fortune on a hobby, say collecting trains, flying radio controlled air craft???? How about bass fisherman that catch and release, lots of money tied up in the boats and gear. Then what about the millions of Adults that bowl on a team, darn it makes me wonder why an adult spends the time and money to throw hard objects at wooden pins.
I hope you can see where we are going here, when the Adult mind takes over the child mind, that of fun, pranks or doing the unusual just for the hell of it, then we find people sitting in a basement building bombs, sour old folks that have not smiled or laughed in 10 years.
Young at heart, ------RC head to the Circus, a place for KIDS of all ages.-------Ask why when an adult pulls a stupid prank, everyone loves it-------If a teenages does the same, shame on them.
Sheet, when our foreman left we got permission from the top boss and $50.00 from his pocket to buy a good blow up doll. We dressed it in a thong, boots, and hard hat, a bikini top and open lab coat and placed it in his office.
The top boss went to him and said one worker was insisting on a raise and was waiting to see him in his office. We placed the doll to the side of his desk so he had to come in and sit down to see her. We who were in the know of the prank watched as our foreman on his last day at work slowly trudged into his office closing the door behind him. We all held our breath and waited, 1 minute went by----2 minutes went by, we were trying to work and still keep an eye on the door, 5 minutes went by and we were getting antsier, after 10 minutes went by and his replacement who knew nothing about the prank came along and knocked on the door and entered. Another 5 minutes went by, now we females were holding our knees together so as not to wet our pants.
Finally the top Boss came along just in time to see the leaving foreman with briefcase in one hand and our doll under his free arm. The new Foreman ran after him yelling that the worker was a perk of his new job. He came back with the doll and there it sat in its chair for a few weeks until someone from the Corporate office came for a visit. -----No complaints of sexual harassment from anyone------
She raised moral 100% as she was from time to time moved to different places in the factory, never the office, the Paid salary office folks had no sense of humor, it was us low liefs that did the manual labor that became quite fond of her.
So when one works 10+ hours standing on cement doing mind numbing repetitive work that some did that could not speak English or read or write, ------we all loved her and could not wait to come to work to see where she would turn up next. The name we gave her was
" The Slut " Word of mouth, the Sluts in the men's room, The Sluts out by the loading dock, the sluts sitting on a fork lift in dry storage, the Sluts -----Everywhere., only place the slut could not go was cold storage but often she rode on the back of the fork trucks picking up products taking them from place to place. The mechanics got mad as they seldom had a chance to work with the slut looking on.
It worked for a few weeks when she up and ran away or so we were told. She was there just long enough for us to enjoy her but not so long the Prank would get old.

Me too, but when it was investigated and turned out to be nothing--nothing dangerous anyway--they shouldn't make a felony out of it. Also there isn't anything really sinister about a pair of gloves or a hooded sweatshirt or a kid running from a school but they sure make it sound that way. But I do understand why the administrators were concerned and called the police.

I guess so but if it wasn't taken seriously then it could happen one day and people would be WHY?!! He/his parent's should at least be made to pay for any type of tactical/swat/bomb squad monies the dept is out.

Gina, you have young kids that will grow up, believe it or not sooner then you think.
Just wait until that young innocent boy baby finds it interesting to place a garden snake in his sisters bed------BTDT.
As an only child I was not really ready for 4 baby's that grew up to do stuff that blew my mind.
Oh Gina what those 4 did to drive their siblings into hysterics. When they got old enough to band together boys against girls, frogs in pants pockets, river crabs in shoes and earth worms in their underware draws.
The girls were not much better, actually they were more vicious then the boys. One boy was injured and his sister made him stay under a porch until the blood was so great it scared her. Another time on a road trip the girls got my attention and I forgot to count the kids in the car and the 5 year old was hanging on the back bumper as we drove away. Heart stopping.
Don't even want to go into what my 4 little children that I would die for did to me as teenagers. I survived somehow but Gina, even just one teenager will place the parent into 24/7 worry------having 4 at one time causes the parent to developer heart problems, high blood pressure and begin to walk about talking to themselves.

I sometimes think that the Terrorists won on 9/11. They have everyone and their brother running around and jumping at shadows.
There is NO reason that this kid should be facing a felony charge over this sort of prank.

Exactly my point.
What I find personally repulsive is the number of Americans that willingly accept such inspections and even go so far as to justify them in the so called name of "security".
I think that there is a quote attributed to Ben Franklin along those lines.
