I just watched Ronin (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0122690/) for the first time, and i have to say the car chase scene about 2/3 through the movie (where the hot chick is trying to lose De Niro) is incredible. I know The French Connection and Bandit are considered to be the standard, but I think this beats them both hands down. a more exciting/intense car chase scene?

The one in The Demolition Man was pretty good. It made me sad, though because of what they did to that 442....

Bullit or The Italian Job

Blues Brothers.
"It's 106 miles to Chicago. We got a full tank of gas, half a pack if cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it."

This is the one that trashed the most cars in a car chase scene EVAH, IIRC. For a film 30+ years old, they done good with this one.
The scene where Henry Gibson, the Nazi leader, is in his car dropping from 3,000 feet and his sidekick turns to him and says, "I've always loved you" is priceless. :lmao:
Not to mention the pileup of 40+ cop cars just off the interstate. Unbelievable. :rotf:

Bullitt. Hands down. Although IMO, Ronin is a VERY close second.
Some others not mentioned:
To Live and Die in LA
Dirty Mary Crazy Larry
Vanishing Point
Gone in 60 Seconds (1974 version)--come on, ANY 40-minute car chase scene belongs on the list
The Transporter
All 3 Bourne movies
And if you're going to use the Blues Brothers, use the car chase scene in the mall, not the one in downtown Chicago.

I've not seen any of those movies quoted except for one of the Bourne movies. I'd agree that Bullitt was the catalyst of really great car chase scenes, but as it was produced in the late Sixties, the special effects reflected the capability of the times. The audio, for example, didn't always track with what the car (the Mustang) was actually doing. Still, that film started the overall trend, no doubt. And I think Steve McQueen did at least a little of the stunt driving. That wouldn't happen today because of insurance requirements.

This one is pretty hair-raising. Edge of your seat knuckle biter with wicked special effects...

The freeway chase from (I think) the second Matrix movie should be in the top five.
Maybe it's unfair that they spent a Brazilian dollars on it but still. I was very wow.

The only thing the "new" Blues Brothers movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118747/) did better than the original was destroy cars. It was the only time I laughed.
That particular movie should never have been made, but they did destroy a shit ton of cars to make it.

I'm trying to remember one I saw as a kid. I think it was Crazy Mary, Dirty Larry. Not much of a chase scene, but it ended with them being hit by a train .

This one is not the best in any way, but it's from what is by far my favorite movie. It also has guns, which is always good in a car chase:)
Looking back at it's is is kind of lame, but oh well.

I also recall one i liked from another movie that I can't remember the title of.

Thank you for that! Highly overlooked in my humble opinion. I have the extended version on DVD. :-)
