Michigan's new vehicle plates for military families honor lost lives, service, sacrifices
The old tradition of families hanging flags with gold stars on windows to signify the death of a son or daughter in the military is getting a modern update: putting them on vehicle license plates.
Michigan's new Gold Star Family plates are now available for immediate family members of service members killed in combat.

I'll be heading up there early next month for a weekend of fun, travel, and adventure.
I can't carry since I'll be traveling through Illinois, so cover me. That corner of Michigan is a dangerous place. :fuelfire:
ETA info on Illinois' draconian CCW and nonexistent reciprocity laws. Bastards. :bird:

You can carry when you hit the state lines.
I'll be in Dorr, the weekend of the 18th. I have a 3 day tournament at South Kent. Shooting on Fri. Officiating on Sat and Sun. If you're in the area, stop by and say hey.

Yeah, I realize I can carry when I hit the state lines -- Michigan has reciprocity with Missouri/Ohio (where I actually have my CCW). But according to what I'm reading, I cannot transport a weapon through Illinois in a motor vehicle without an FOID (issued by Illinois). If I get caught, it's a Class 4 felony.
And I damn sure ain't gonna make a big-assed detour around Illinois -- sucking chest wound that it is. :argh:

Thanks for the invitation - I do appreciate it. But I'll be in the shithole section of Michigan -- Tri-county region. It looks like you're out near Grand Rapids, which is a little out of the way.

The Firearm Owners Protection Act should cover you for transporting a firearm if you are just passing through, but you won't be able to carry concealed while in IL.
At least that is my understanding.

I'll look that up - thanks.

The FOID only applies to IL residents. There is a peaceful journey law that allows non residents to transport firearms through states that are not their home state. Guns have to be in a case and locked in a trunk or if no trunk, in a locked case out of the reach of the driver.
I drove through Cook County recently on the way to a 3 gun match. There were four of us in the truck. We each had at least four guns and 300 rounds of ammo per gun. We had a shotgun, AR-15, handgun for the match and a carry gun. We couldn't carry it in IL, but it was loaded in the Motel room.

Now that the license plate thing is completely threadjacked (sorry :whistling:), there is some useful information at the link about Illinoistan.
Ohio CCW Forums (http://ohioccwforums.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=53054)
There are still some local laws, evidently, that may hold sway with local law enforcement (unlikely that it might be).
Lotsa comments about taking a dump in Illinois, using too much tp, and not buying a damned thing, just to incur a net loss just to make a point. :lmao:
But if I'm a good boy, obey the speed limit, and check all my light bulbs to make sure they're working, I should be okay.

That's fine. Talking about MI is a limited discussion anyway.
