I got a warning from google and the logs confirm what it said...
The warming was:
Warning: We believe that your account was recently accessed from: China (163data.com.cn:123.185.197.61).
And the logs show this:

I do everything on this email account. Should I be concerned? Does this mean my account was hacked? I changed my password but I'm not sure what else I can/could do.

Depends on the level your account was compromised, you may have to change the passwords on every website you've used that address to register on, or at least sites you re-used that password with. I had to do that when my Yahoo! account was hacked last year. Other than that, not sure what else to tell you.
I keep all my registration/logins in a separate folder so I know who I've used that account with.

I remember reading recently that a significant number of Google accounts were compromised by the Chinese. Change passwords on EVERYTHING!!

I'm not to worried about that sort of thing. I'm the only one using the computer and I'm running Linux so all should be fine :)

How does someone check whether a keylogger is on the machine?

Virus and malware scanners usually pick them up.
Failing that use a process viewer that displays hidden tasks and have a good idea what should and shouldn't be on that list.
