How much heat can we stand?
Temberatures in Texas have been in the lo hundreds for weeks. Phoenix just had a 118 degree day, a record. The 30 year average temp is up half a degree. It's hot and getting hotter. Scientists are tellling us, It's the climate , dummy! We'd rather not hear it, but it gets harder to ignore all the time. How much heat can we stand?

10. Cons! Where's your "global climate steadiness" now??? n/t
Global climate steadiness?
I haven't heard one person say that the climate doesn't nor won't change.
The climate has changed so many time throughout the past, and all before SUVs and farting cows every where.
The Sahara desert was once fertile ground, now it is a desert. This all occurred without one single SUV and not one coal fired power plant.
This notion that we can reverse climate change by taxing the shit out of everyone is insane.

Every damn summer everyone is so shocked that it is hot and every damn winter everyone is shocked that it is so cold.
Seems like every one is walking around with the memory of a gold fish.

Why not ask that question on a board where Republicans can respond to you? and where were you screaming globull warming this winter when it was freaking cold and snowing up the wazoo,m oh I forgot, in looney regressiveland when it's too warm it's globull warming and when it's too cold it's globull warming.

The heat is solely the fault of George W. Bush, as are the Missouri River flooding and Casey Anthony.
-
In kalifornia June temperatures were at record colds.

We have records from Europe from the Medieval Warm Period, and it was a time fruitful fields. Do we have any records from any areas closer to the equator to see how they faired?

I found this with a quick google check. I didn't feel like reading the whole thing because it is a nice warm sunday afternoon and I don't feel like diving into any think that will require me to lose my relax. :couch:

It's summer, stupid. And 118 degrees in Phoenix is nothing. I remember it being that hot when I moved there in 2005. It was 112 in Las Vegas yesterday, 109 today, but no complaining here.

Ick. I don't 'do' hot. Perhaps its too many generations of family living in or around New England. Not to mention, a mail truck is the last place you want to be in +100F weather. Oven. On. Wheels. [/pittmode]

if its to hot move North, its what your ancestors did dummy, you think our ancestors sat around complaining when shit happened, no they packed their dinosaur skin luggage and legged it to better climes. We would all still be living in the rift valley drowning in cheetos if it wasnt for mankind setting out to look for better places to have sex.

If they had cheetos why would they WANT to leave?
-
well i think they had to leave as the productive members told them once they were gone then the cheeto orchard would no longer be tended and they would starve. Also the productive people needed people to ahem taste test new foods to make sure they were okay to eat, i wonder how many generations it took for lutefish to be deemed edible (or how many pints of ale).

I was in Boston 2 weeks ago and it was cool, I am going to San Antonio and Dallas in August and I bet it will be hot. Just like it is every year that I do this, over and over and over again.

You just reminded me of Earl Butz, President Nixon's Secretary of Agriculture, describing a heirarchy of needs that included "loose shoes".

I used to drive an aluminum stepvan, similar to our LLV's and FFV's, only bigger.
I was delivering one hot, Tuesday in Charleston, WV, with nothing to cool me than the breeze thru the doors, and the ice water in my cooler. While driving to my next delivery, I noticed my shoes felt sticky, like I had stepped in some gum or something equally nasty.
It was neither. The soles of my shoes were melting on the floorboard!.
Back in 1977, at the height of the "Coming Ice Age" talk, we stayed snowbound the entire month of January, bitterly cold temps, winds, etc. Spent the entire month thawing water pipes and cutting firewood.
August rolls around, and we set 21 record high temps for the month.
-
What a whiner. I spent 30 days in the middle of the California Desert wit hthe daily temps between 100-120 during July-August. If thats not hot enough then the DUmmies would never make it anyplace if they took over. All we had to cool off with as water from our canteens and the water trailers the Marines gave us to use. 29 Palms is a real PIA to be when its the middle of summer.

^5. I think so, too.

I don't believe we have the answer to that yet.

Loki did that as a joke, and my ancestors took him serious. :lmao:

I'm doing my part to save energy in this heat wave. I turned the thermostat on y A/C up to 70 from 69.

I turned the oven and AC on at the same time. I want to see who wins.

I'll bake cupcakes when it's 110 out at 1pm-2pm. No wonder our A/C bill was so high last year.
