My Facebook Stalker Just Hit Me With This Gem--The "Liberal Media Bias"
A guy I knew from college, who actually is a pretty nice guy, but who is also a craven Republican shill, has been spending the last year or better traipsing into every one of my political posts on Facebook and trying to muddy the waters with right-wing talking points. I feel I've done a better than average job of shooting him down most of the time, as I'm pretty much a veteran of political "discussions" with conservatives, and he really seems like he only talks with other conservatives (because pretty much every time I shoot down his talking points, he usually just gives up, which, as we have seen with Sarah "I wasn't wrong about Paul Revere" Failin, is not normally a right-winger trait). The other day, I did a pre-emptive strike in the middle of a discussion about something else, and mentioned that the media is conservative-owned and controlled, and that this is a verifiable fact.
Well, he comes back with THIS P.O.S. study. http://www.newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/Media-Bias-Is-...
I don't think I've ever seen a more flawed, tortured methodology in my entire life. I can't even make sense of how he even ARRIVED at the idea to use this kind of methodology. I mean, it looks like this guy just kept scrapping all the VALID methodologies until he found one that got him to his pre-determined result. Citations to the ACLU are considered "liberal bias"??? And on equal footing with citations to the Heritage Foundation? I had to stop reading when I saw that this "study" indicated that the Drudge Report "leans left" because I had a fit of uncontrollable laughing. I probably should have looked more deeply into it, because any study that shows that Faux News is the most "centrist" of all the news organizations MUST have been funded by some right-wing outfit.
-
I've seen many people claim that Fox News is the most centered of the major media outlets. They don't say this because the folks at Fox are centrists. The reason they say Fox News is the most centered is because Fox News works harder to try to present both sides of the story. If they are going to be talking to a conservative they also invite a liberal. A lot of times the liberal refuses to appear which I can understand. If I were a liberal and someone asked me to broadcast my lunacy in broad daylight right next to someone who is normal on the most watched cable news network in the nation I'd probably also refuse to appear.

So, he's calling his real life friend a stalker?

I always try to keep my Facebook political and drama free. I don't need my righty friends getting into it with my lib friends all over my wall.

The primitive's referring to this, obviously:
"special information for the primitives"

I don't know, every time I've argued with a lib and I shoot down one of their arguments (it's not that hard because they're entitled to their own opinions but not their own facts) they come back with another topic. Well, but the R's also did blah, blah, blah. You hear it on talk radio all the time, too.

Well, right there is your problem.

But then that takes away all the fun of Facebook.

Well, bless his/her heart, we've got us a true warrior here, Cavers. :lmao:

I'd like to, but my cousin is a flaming liberal (college educated, no less) who make some of the most asinine, thoughtless, ignorant, just plain DUMBASS comments I've read, including here. We've had 40+ comment threads going on some of the things he's posted. His most prolific statement is "State your source!" I finally told him I'm not writing a term paper, and he ain't my teacher.
I've often wondered what his DUmmie name is. He keeps wanting to have a face to face with me somewhere to debate my beliefs, and I just might take him up on it.
My working 60+ hours a week makes it a might difficult, though.

That's what I see happening too. I debated a good friend of mine about ACORN and he came back with the 'stolen' elections of 2000 and 2004. I gave him links to the convictions on ACORN, he changed the subject.

Yeah, they tend to think rapid subject hopping and irrelevant distractions is a debate. They start off with A. Then realize they don't know shit about A. Rapidly throw X Y and Z out. Declare victory as the other person sorts out the irrelevant arguments. In my experience nothing pisses off a moonbat faster then forcing them to stay on the original topic.

The broccoli primitive has the same problem most of the primitives have, that is, they're so far left they believe the left is the right. These dolts actually consider themselves to be part of the mainstream. But, that's one of the many things that make what they say so laughable.

You nailed it. I've seen countless times where they called Obama a "Republican". Anything shy of Marxism = Republican.

Well of course you can't trust UCLA. Everyone knows they border on far right extremist...
Groseclose and Milyo then directed 21 research assistants — most of them college students — to scour U.S. media coverage of the past 10 years. They tallied the number of times each media outlet referred to think tanks and policy groups, such as the left-leaning NAACP or the right-leaning Heritage Foundation.
Next, they did the same exercise with speeches of U.S. lawmakers. If a media outlet displayed a citation pattern similar to that of a lawmaker, then Groseclose and Milyo's method assigned both a similar ADA score.
"A media person would have never done this study," said Groseclose, a UCLA political science professor, whose research and teaching focuses on the U.S. Congress. "It takes a Congress scholar even to think of using ADA scores as a measure. And I don't think many media scholars would have considered comparing news stories to congressional speeches."
Of the 20 major media outlets studied, 18 scored left of center, with CBS' "Evening News," The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times ranking second, third and fourth most liberal behind the news pages of The Wall Street Journal.
Only Fox News' "Special Report With Brit Hume" and The Washington Times scored right of the average U.S. voter.

For at least a couple of generations, since Joe Friday retired, "LA" has stood for "liberal assholes".
