26 PERCENT OF AMERICANS DON’T KNOW U.S. DECLARED INDEPENDENCE FROM GREAT BRITAIN Updated at 9:58 AM
26 PERCENT OF AMERICANS DON’T KNOW U.S. DECLARED INDEPENDENCE FROM GREAT BRITAIN | According to a new poll by Marist, more than a quarter of Americans couldn’t correctly identify the country from which the United States declared its independence. While 74 percent correctly named Great Britain, 20 percent said they weren’t sure and six percent named other countries. In the South, 32 percent of respondents either responded incorrectly or weren’t sure. The poll comes on the heels of test scores that showed few American students gaining proficiency in U.S. history, a problem presidential candidate Rick Santorum blamed on the “conscious effort†by “the left†to keep Americans uninformed. 1. 26% of Americans are really ****ing stupid.
Odd coincidence? I think not.
But, I bet they are experts at putting a condom on a banana, and probably have great self esteem.

30. That 26% about matches the die-hard Republican base.
That's about where Dubya's approval rating bottomed out. It's about where all things favoring the Republican side of issues hovers around.
Coincidence? I doubt it.
Yeah must be the rethugs who have no idea that we were once a British colony and 20 centuries ago (according to 0bama) we established independence and wrote a constitution. In fact rethugs are so stupid, we only count 50 states. :-)

What area had the best scores? Was it in the article?
Sounds like the nation is getting its history from
Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and Bachman.
They all know we only have 50 states, and I bet they all can pronounce corpsman correctly.

63. Over 50% of those who know nothing are watchers of Fox News...
I'm willing to bet that more Fox News viewers know that we declared independence from Great Britain than the viewers of the Daily Show.

That's because American History has taken a backseat to diversity.
-
26% of Americans are really ****ing stupid.
20% of Americans identify themselves as "liberal", coincidence?
-
I noticed they worked in their little dig of the south being stupid without mentioning that the "stupid" southerners most likely look like Obama.
-
I'm guessing the deeply ignorant responders were from the that wellspring of Democrat strength, the 'Sophisticated urbanites' on public assistance of one form or another and similar losers.

You apparently have never watched Glenn beck, numbnuts.

Me too.

Hell I have heard so many historical facts from Beck, that I can't even recall them all.
They just don't like what he says so they claim he doesn't know jack about history, when in reality he probably knows more than the entire DUmp combined. They also miss it when he says "Don't take my word for it, look it up yourself".
-
In my personal experience the people I knew who were that ignorant were usually the people who would side lefty as a default postion. Thank god they were mostly too lazy to vote.
-
I don't know, every time Jay Leno or Sean Hannity do a "man on the street" thing they do it in big cities (Sean even asks whether they're left or right) every single one of them have been lefties. Many college students. They like to pretend they're the smartest people on the planet. Children get NO history. It's been like that for a long, long time. Socialists know if you don't have a sense of your own history and what you do know is mostly negative you can't develop an allegiance to your country. I'd bet just about any of those people who don't know their history DO know we raped the land and stole it from the Indians (you'd think the DUmmies would give their apartments and/or houses back if they're so concerned and caring) and that we stole California from Mexico. Bet they also think the Indians saved us from ourselves on Thanksgiving. Bet they also think it was a bunch of rich white guys who started the country. Bet they also don't know it was white Christians who fought against slavery. Suck on that DUmmies. YOU own the education system and the socialist NEA.

7/1: Independence Day — Seventeen Seventy When?
July 1, 2011 by Marist Poll
Only 58% of residents know that the United States declared its independence in 1776. 26% are unsure, and 16% mentioned another date.
There are age differences on this question. Younger Americans are the least likely to know the correct answer. Only 31% of adults younger than 30 say that 1776 is the year in which the United States broke away from Great Britain.
...
And, for the second year, about one in four Americans doesn’t know from which country the United States declared its independence. While 76% correctly cite Great Britain, 19% are unsure, and 5% mention another country.
...
80% of those 60 and older, 77% of those 45 to 59, and 77% of those between 30 and 44 report the nation’s founding fathers revolted against Great Britain. This compares with 67% of those under the age of 30 who say the same.
-

Same clowns who are mostly too lazy to work. Or even work at looking for a job. They'd rather spend hours attempting to get some of those dollars from Obama's stash. :whatever:

Zogby Poll: Almost No Obama Voters Ace Election Test
UTICA, New York -- Just 2% of voters who supported Barack Obama on Election Day obtained perfect or near-perfect scores on a post election test which gauged their knowledge of statements and scandals associated with the presidential tickets during the campaign, a new Zogby International telephone poll shows.
<snipped>
Obama voters did not fare nearly as well overall when asked to answer questions about statements or stories associated with Obama or Biden -- 83% failed to correctly answer that Obama had won his first election by getting all of his opponents removed from the ballot, and 88% did not correctly associate Obama with his statement that his energy policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry. Most (56%) were also not able to correctly answer that Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground.
Nearly three quarters (72%) of Obama voters did not correctly identify Biden as the candidate who had to quit a previous campaign for President because he was found to have plagiarized a speech, and nearly half (47%) did not know that Biden was the one who predicted Obama would be tested by a generated international crisis during his first six months as President.
In addition to questions regarding statements and scandals associated with the campaigns, the 12-question, multiple-choice survey also included a question asking which political party controlled both houses of Congress leading up to the election -- 57% of Obama voters were unable to correctly answer that Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate.

Personally i blame the teachers, though i am sure there is no way the Dummies would ever blame them for not teaching the students about the war of insurrection

It's crystal clear: mentally challenged people should NOT be allowed to tie their own shoes, let alone vote.

Which would explain why the younger respondents to this type of poll always score the lowest. But hey, at least they know who won American Idol and what Paris Hilton was wearing last week, right? :bawl:

I wonder how many came from welfare families.
