anyone in Boston got info on couch surfing tonight?

A family member has been on Amtrak since SUNDAY, trying to get from Oregon to Maine for a critical hearing in family court. Now the train from Chicago to Boston is running late as well and he will miss another connection.

He'll be stuck in Boston tonight and has run low on resources. He needs a couch for the night and will catch the bus north in the morning. I can send a link to his extensive FB page if you want to check him out.

Anyone know the couch surfing scene there?

No primitive showed up at this campfire, although one does hope the matter was resolved via personal message, that the guy found a place.

One wonders if this is the nephew who had a restaurant that began to prosper during the spring of 2001, and then started going belly-up the spring of 2007, his pie-and-jam aunt conveniently forgetting who was in the White House and dominated Congress then.

Don't think so Frank.

It's Family court in Maine, probably a deadbeat dad who came into some money, bragged about to extended family and on line, got back to his divorced spouse and the ex-wife wants some of it to feed, clothe and raise his kids.

The only reference I've heard to something like that has been sofa surfing.

It was applied to college-aged men who spent their money on partying instead of housing and food.  Seemed like a short trail - other students are in no position to support a party boy.  Otherwise, we have some people in ranchland who get accused of "riding the grub line."  Bouncing along from ranch to ranch, offering to do very little in exchange for a temporary bed.

So is this some formalized thing?

Thank you.

Um... wow and no way.

When I was younger, and much, much, much stupider, I did this couch surfing sort of thing for three days in the St. Louis area.  My parents had no idea where I was at, and I have never told them to this day (I'm not hiding anything from them, it just has never come up as a point of conversation).  They thought I was here local staying with friends.

I knew some of the people, and only from limited online experiences.  I was 16, bored, and looking for adventure (not the sexual kind).  Now that I look back, I thank God that he kept his hand on me during that time of my life. My door is always open to help someone else out in real need.  I wouldn't dream of doing something as stupid as what I did back then, today now.

I never heard of couch surfing.

Well, because you and I, madam, never made it a habit of bumming off other people.

It's odd, that an elderly woman would know the term.....unless she herself's bummed off other people, and keeps up with the lingo of bumming.

At first I thought the title said "couch sniffing".
Oh well. Guess I need to find some new reading glasses.

Oregon to Boston on Amtrak is around $600 one-way, plus meals for a week en route. Can't put that much pie in your carry-on.
Oregon to Boston on Southwest Airlines is less than $400 one-way, and takes maybe a half-day.

So this deadbeat chose Amtrak. Not a good choice to get to a critical court hearing on time. Unfortunately, Mussolini does not run Amtrak.
Grasswire's wino nephew is already bumming, and hasn't reached Maine yet.
Wait til he starts the return trip!

DUmmy grasswire needs to send a PM to William Rivers Pitt. He usually passes out on the floor, so the sofa should be available. It's funny that grasswire is trying to mooch a flop, after she told Omaha Steve to piss up a rope when he wanted to bunk with her in the charity bonus room. She had Omaha Steve weeping, but he thought she was in Wisconsin.

I would tell DUmmy grasswire's wino nephew,
Young man, there's a place you can go.
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough.
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.
