Oh my.

To lead off, the skidmarked underwear primitive, the disconsolate older farmwife in eastern Iowa:

How hot is it where you are today?

We're to hit the upper 90s, with heat index pushing 110. It didn't get below 80 during the night. And it is suffocatingly humid.

franksolich regretfully reports the same weather circa 400 miles directly west of the skidmarked underwear primitive.

5. Minneapolis is supposed to hit 94-96 today, with a heat index of around 105. The one lung air conditioner in my apartment can't even keep the living room comfortable, much less cool. The rest of the apartment is uninhabitable when it gets this hot and muggy. Blech.

Okay, this primitive is going on franksolich's shit list for being so pretentious.

What the **** is "PDX"?

How hard is it to spell out the name of a city or area?

15. It's 65 degrees at 10:xx AM in Western Mass....

Yesterday it was 70 with lots of sunshine and breezes. It felt almost like September weather.

OTOH, we have also had some very warm weather.

The other day I was looking through an old diary from 2003. At this time of year the honeysuckle along our fences was just coming out.

This year they have been in full bloom for two weeks.

Something is definitely happening...

In all honesty, yesterday was one of the most oppressive days I've ever spent on a golf course.  And it had nothing to do with my play.

It reached a high of 96 degrees and for most of the day the humidity was at 85%.  It was windy, but it was a hot wind.  The only way to cool down was to ride around in the golf cart and keep draping a wet towel on the back of my neck.  I've played in Houston in the summer and it didn't seem as bad as yesterday.

Okay, so "PDX" is Portland, Oregon.

Pretentious primitive, the "Viva_la_Revolting" primitive, thinking it's so smart, so cool, so hip, calling Portland and the surrounding area "PDX".

A good piece of writing doesn't demand that one consult google all the time to find out what's being said.

It's too late, sir.

franksolich now has a personal vendetta, something he's never had against a primitive before.

I'm going to do my damnedest to get this pretentious "Viva_la_Revolting" primitive into the Top Ten of 2011 now.

Here in TYS (sorry, Frank, couldn't resist  :-) ), we're in the upper 80's with humidity into the 60+% range today, but tomorrow the super heat and humidity are due in with heat indices to go into the low 100's, at least through Monday, when storms are due in, again.

Air Quality is already at "bad for sensitives", and getting worse. There's already a lot of mold, from all the storms, and the heat is going to make it awful. Between the AQ and the mold, it's going to suck.

Up until a few years ago, we never had AQ reports, because the local Powers that Be, were afraid it would affect tourism. Got to the point where they didn't have a choice, particularly since anyone flying in could see the layer of bad air laying over the valley, or if they were up in the mountains looking down. We don't have the industry or the population that is usually associated with poor AQ, instead we are in a valley surrounded on 3 sides by the Cumberlands and the Smokies, and the junk in the air gets trapped here, especially since we normally don't have "wind" or even much of a breeze. Until this year, when it seems we have at least a breeze most of the time. But nothing about this year's weather has been typical.  :???:

I know, I know.

It's just really pretentious--something of course for which the primitives are known--to do this stuff.

It's like the "Viva_la_Revolting" primitive is trying to one-up the other primitives--"oh look, I've flown in an airplane before."

Whoop whoop de doo.

Yip yippity yay.

I imagine I've probably flown somewhat less than average, especially considering I've never flown on business (i.e., on someone else's dime), only for personal reasons (i.e., always on my own dime), but I'm not exactly a novice at it.

When scanning the maps of the United States and the world:

I've flown in or out of LBF and GRI and LNK and OMA and MDW and ORD and MCI and DEN and CLE and PIT and MDT and BGM and AVP and ROC and JFK and LGA and EWR and BOS and ABE and BWI and (whatever the designated code for Indianapolis is; I can't remember them all).....and LHR and BRU and CDG and ORY and FCO and KBP and HRK.

These are all beginning of, and ending of, trips, not any of the intermediate stops.

Whoop whoop de doo.

Yip yippity yay.

I wouldn't dream of trying to impress by using, for example, FCO for Rome.

This is just pretentiousness, nothing more than that, using "PDX" instead of "Portland;" the primitive's just trying to one-up the other primitives who probably haven't flown around.

I don't suppose anybody's ever noticed that reading franksolich doesn't necessitate looking up something on google or reaching for a dictionary.  That's the difference between good writing and pretension.

The best example lately was when nutcase nadin went on her kick of talking about "parenteral" radiation exposure.

After dozens of posts where she lectured the DUmp about parenteral this and parenteral that, it suddenly became obvious she didn't know the definition of "parenteral".

Her lovely meltdown ensued.

:lmao: Most of my flying time has been spent flying into and out of fields that didn't even have a formal name. Most were just called so-and-so's cow pasture. ...and the most dangerous part of flying was the zig-zag takeoff/landings trying to dodge the fresh cow patties. If the plane doesn't have wheel pants, you don't want to run thru fresh cow patties. :lmao:

Quite possibly it does make one grouchier than usual, madam.

It's hot and humid here now; the misery index is 110 degrees.

But not to worry; I aerated the house with the electric fans the way you suggested it about three weeks ago, followed your instructions to a "tee," and the past three days it's worked better than anything I ever did.

Oh good!! I was wondering if you did. Growing up in SD, IA, and IL, it's how my dad always cooled the house, as we didn't have AC. Years ago, even after I got married and we moved to VA and NC, we cooled that way as much as possible, because to run the AC constantly was more than we could afford.

It's 75 here in Chicago right now.  We had lots of rain and some hail last night.  At ORD (that's O'Hare for Frank), it's 83.  Living close to the  lake helps cool things down a bit.
I love that summers are generally cooler here than back home in Texas, but boy,  the humidity is a killer.  I don't think I'll ever get used to it.

TOTs - sorry to hear about the high temps in big D.  When I go home to visit, I'm always thankful for strong air conditioners and covered parking :).

To be honest, I'd prefer it that way. In the North, I could always dress to be comfortable during the frigid winters, and summers were great.

In red state hell, with mid-90s in both Fahrenheit and humidity, you can't be comfortable outdoors unless you're in water at least up to your neck.
It's easy to understand why this place was a primitive backwater until the advent of air conditioning.

For some reason, you all come to Las Vegas for a vacation in the summer.  Then you (not you, of course, but the Canadians that come here) complain because it's 95 degrees.  So when they complain, I tell them they haven't see anything yet because we'd be hitting triple digits during their stay.  If the heat bugs you, don't come to Las Vegas in July.

If I remember right, didn't Obama say that we Americans were wrong to set our thermostats at 72%... did we think the rest of the world would be OK with that? Not an exact quote, but I remember thinking who the He** ASKED the rest of the world anyways?

Hearing the DUmp monkeys whine about the heat, harkins me back to the golden moment. Democrats should rise up and turn OFF the AC, and lead by example for the first time in their lives.
