Excellent. Sad to say but New York may have 'forced our hand' on this matter.

Can you imagine the outcry if a republican governor and legislature had rammed anything of this magnitude thru the way these clowns have done?

I'd really rather not have this be a constitutional amendment. I don't have a problem with it being the law of the land but our constitution and it's amendments should serve the purpose of limiting government and keeping them out of our lives. I don't think the government should be in the marriage business at all. To them it isn't a sacred bond, it's part of the tax code. Having an amendment specifically targeted at marriage opens the door to all kinds of abuse. Nothing a lawyer or legislature likes more than a new avenue for lawsuits.

I agree 100%.   We can't deflect away from the economy in this election cycle over something that is a states' issue.

Attero, but government is in the business and so are the Courts.

Unfortunately the Gays are in for a shock when they marry and find the huge cost to become divorced.
 The problem of one partner having medical and life insurance on the other and both party's are stuck for a few years.   The holder of the insurance cannot just walk out on the insured and drop their medical insurance, the Court may demand they continue to pay for the Rx's medical care and or alimony for a few years.

When Gays adopt, then there are custody arrangements, Who pays child support , who includes the child on their insurance and who pays for their education.

If EX Military and married for 10+ years, the first EX gets the retirement funds from a deceased ex----or their social security.

These Gays have no idea what they are getting into, the very reason Gays were happy being Gay in the first place.   No ties to bind them, no legal hassles, no worries about finding another partner that  would want the same rights as the first EX may now enjoy.

The life of a Gay for men at least--leaving woman out here for a bit, is nothing like the movies that older men long lovers have remained faithfull to each other-----Nor does this become a guarantee in Heterosexual marriages.

I expect a huge flood of Gays getting married in the near future, give it a few years and the realisation of what they have done will set in and we will need a 24/7 open divorce court in the big city's.

Just a thought here, when a Gay marries another and one dies that has children by a former marriage,
what happens when the surviving spouse's kids contest any will  or contract of their diseased parent.

Gays will not escape the laws and courts, they will find themselves just as accountable as the Heterosexual Community. Big difference is the children they raised will seldom have any reason to come looking for them when they become adults.   

Much easier to have a Civil Union, a contract that is open ended then a Marriage that cannot be easily ended.

Of course we do Rebel, this is the life style of Heterosexuals.

Now the Gay comunity has seldom had these problems in the past,  Check out the history of Gay life, for men at least, for the last 3-400 years and the problems the youth bypassed until they were middle age and settled down with a same sex partner.

Gay is all about SEX, has nothing to do with any kind of commitment for more then a few years to their   Latest Trick.-----Newest Squeeze.----

Today those young gays that decide to take the leap into a Government controlled life style are just asking to find themselves knee deep in Allagators in a swamp they never saw coming.

They will find that their sex life is no longer free, the lover they have can take them to the bank if there is a dispute.   Can make demands on them that were impossible to make had they stayed "single".

Quite a change for those that have led a life of no restrictions in many ways.     Can they adjust to living in the life style of heterosexuals when they loose the freedoms gay life offers????

Strange but the Heterosexual life style is turning about also, people are just deciding to live together, have children without the Laws of Government or State regulating their lives. Children of such unions do have rights, but both parents can come and go as they please. No alimony or forced insurances placed upon the partner that leaves. except for child support or health insurance on the kids.   

No kids, then the road to freedom is just a step away unless one partner has worked to put the other through school, or one partner has encouraged the other to quit school and stay at home and loose SS. benefits.

Gays live in LA-LA land, wow they think I get married and I am now equal to everyone else-------

Well they sure are and the new life style they have chosen just does not Jibe with the Gay life style.

Trying to settle down into a life style of the Heterosexuals, no more out in Gay Bars looking for something strange, knowing they can no longer troll for a quickie at the bus station, darn, what a bitch.

Let them learn that as much as they march for equality, there is a price for them to pay. When they get the so called benefits Heterosexuals have, they have to march to the same drummer the Heterosexuals do.

I feel sorry for those people that are willing to give up their life style for that of another,  If they are born Gay, then to leave their identity behind to emulate other life styles is sad.

Also BS. It may be a gay liberal thing but my two conservative friends have been together for 20+ years.

Yeah, the lifestyle is repugnant to me, but there's no doubt that many long term relationships happen with fudgepackers and rugmunchers.

A good friend of mine, a trumpet player who absolutely kicked ass on the horn when she was active duty in 1979, is still together with her partner.

My best friend has been with his partner forever. There are plenty of straight people who are "all about sex" too. Don't paint everyone with such a broad brush.

Strange world out there Delila, I also know and have known gays for years and find there are exceptions in all life styles.

One sees an announcement in the Society section of the papers about party's for folks married for 50 years+ to each other.  I have often wondered why if this is the Status Quo, it is news worthy. 

I believe the same ratio of Heterosexual marriages and Gay marriages will eventually even out on divorce, philandering and broken hearts.

Question here ----Just who is an actual Gay--male or female person.????

I have only met one Gay male and he was only 25 years old that had never been with a woman or wanted to.     BUT, for some really creepy reason he began to make Doe eyes at a female at work.  What was the attraction, curiosity about sex with a woman that he liked and felt comfortable with,?

My experiences are limited as I knew Gays mostly in the early 1980 era when I was in Nursing school.

This was a time that people could get fired for being Gay, great Paranoia in the Gay and Bisexual comunity.          When AIDS was thrown into the mix, all Hell broke out.

I do not know what drastic changes has happend since except for a Gay Boss and their girlfriend that were both working their butts off to raise 4 kids [ the Bosses].   They seemed to be doing a very good job for a few years but as the kids got older they began to resent the partner of their mother.  Darn near became a tug of war between the woman as to who the kids loved and listened to the most.

Not any different then when a female with children remarries and the kids come to resent the stepfather. ----Then there is the dreadful episode of Woody Allen and his adopted daughter.

Who knows Delila what motives and motovations cause people to do as they do.   Why do people who have worked all their lives to gain money, success, and positions of respect throw all cautions to the wind to satisfy their sexual urges.????   Be they Gay or Straight, what shuts down all mental processes for the relief of a quickie ?????---------In other words, what is this SEX thing that makes Men go Mad??
