Re-approaching the Global Warming debate
Edited on Sun Jun-26-11 03:39 AM by peopleb4money
I think there is a man made link to global warming and that governments have gotten so worried about it that, rather than restricting pollution and scaling down industry, they've resorted to the last ditch effort of spraying the skies with massive amounts of Aluminum. magnesium and born in an attempt to lower the global temperature (which will assuredly throw soil nutrients out of whack) trying to push for ineffectual policies, like carbon tax credit, which is probably just a way that big corporations can pay to pollute and squeeze out smaller competition who can't afford it. I wish it was a hoax, but I think there's enough concrete science behind it. However, that's not really the point. I think focusing on Man Made GW is just focusing on a trend that isn't 100% provable one way or the other, simply because humanity hasn't witnessed this before. Since the eco-system is collapsing around us, I think there needs to be new tactics to demonstrate the destruction of the environment and the impacts that that might have on human civilization.
The focus should be on the smaller, yet related, issues that are directly demonstratable. Yah, maybe oil isn't causing the ice caps to melt and the oceans to rise (maybe it is), but oil reserves have been so far depleted that the gulf floor was shattered and suffocated in an attempt to mine for petroleum. Maybe it can't be proven that the river deltas that get contaminated by pesticides through run off from industrial farming cause global warming, but it can be proven that the fish suffocate from an overgrowth of algae and that the waters left are so acidic that the only animal that can thrive is Jelly Fish. Maybe it can't be proven that deforestation and the depletion of top soil causes global warming because of reduced vegetation that's available for sequestering carbon, but it can be demonstrated, that when arable land disappears (whether from ecological collapse or bad farming practices), people starve to death and kill each other over dwindling food resources. I could go on and on, but I'm starting to think that making global warming the central argument is just a dead end. I think the media focuses way too much on it and people need see more tangible things.
I don't know how much people realize how vulnerable our infrastructure is. If we, all of a sudden, ran out of oil, or one of these GM mono-cultured crops dies off from being manipulated too much, which is all very likely at some point, more than half the population would probably die in a matter of months. I've tried growing my own food recently in my sucky soil, and if you just, in a panic decided to plant some seeds in this rocky, high clay containing dirt around where I live, you would die. You wouldn't have the time to do any prep-work. I'm pretty sure people would start eating each other too at some point. This is what happened during the collapse of Rome, so I don't see why it wouldn't happen in American cities. I think it will make what goes on in the Congo look like a playground. Our system is way too centralized.
I'm starting to think that people aren't going to wake up to all this and maybe just start preparing for the apocalypse. I'll get some land in some remote place and learn to support myself without being dependent on the global economic system so that I won't have to deal with all the rape and bloodshed that will ensue in the cities.

GW bullshit puts me to sleep.

Our system is way too centralized.
But isn't this one of the end-goals of the primitives, and of socialism?

Just too too damned much STUPID in this one paragraph.
In the first place, there IS NO proof of pesticides in any of our food supplies, and any "runoff" would have the EPA on your ass like a case of the clap! Second, pesticides would RETARD the growth of algae, DUmbass!
Third, private land ownership almost GUARANTEES the land will be taken care of, because it's a farmer's #1 asset. It's expensive and finite. Bad farming practices don't exist when THE FARMER owns the land. He'll do whatever he can to save/protect it, including KILL YOUR SORRY ASS!
As far as growing your own food, have you ever heard of a GREENHOUSE!
I actually wish what you propose comes true, so the world will be rid of people like YOU!

Of course they have heard of greenhouses, that's the type of gas that's melting polar bears. Plus that's where a lot of their pot comes from.
:-)

I'm beginning to have second thoughts about this Global Warming stuff. It's been hot here for the last several days. I realize that it's summer, but still.
Plus it was real cold here between December and February. Cold weather is also a clear sign of Global Warming. Global Warming under 0's watch? I guess I have to vote against him next election to save the planet.

I wonder if the DUmbasses have heard there are no laws against weed in Greenland. That place is like a million square miles. If it warms up enough...

Re-approaching the Global Warming debate
I think that I have such a massive disconnect from reality that I'll buy in to just about any theory that sounds even remotely scientific.
What he said...

Right there, in a nutshell, is the key to Algore's massive wealth, and countless billions of wasted dollars.
