What the public has to understand is that the planet is in peril .... Updated at 5:03 PM
Edited on Wed Jun-22-11 05:16 PM by defendandprotect
and certainly our ability to survive on the planet --
And this has nothing to do with 50 or 30 or 20 years from now --
And, no -- neither Kyoto or new light bulbs is going to help this --
The first thing that has to be understood is that we had a 50 year delay in our
feeling the effects of Global Warming -- this gave the oil industry the opportunity
to spend tens of billions of dollars on a campaign of lies to confuse and fool the
public about Global Warming.
Currently, we are now only experiencing the effects of the burning of fossil fuels
up to about 1960. THINK ABOUT THAT --
Global Warming is about HEATING up the atmosphere which brings chaotic weather --
droughts/floods, storms, hurricanes, cyclones, tornados -- and earthquakes.
Earthquakes in turn generate more volcanic activity.
The melting of the glaciers, the removal of pressure on the tectonic plates and the
new water weight on other technoic plates is increasing the number of earthquakes
and the severity of earthquakes.
Global Warming has the power to change weather systems -- and it is happening.
We have known about Global Warming for more than 50 years -- in fact, scientists saw
more than 100 years ago the negative effects of the industrial revolution on nature.
We have long known that we have to stop burning fossil fuels --
The only way that can be done is to NATIONALIZE OIL and our natural resources which
should have been done decades ago -- no private company should have control of over our
natural resources.
Additionally, the MIC uses 80% of our oil -- which makes oil a national security issue.
So behind "Drill now - think later!" is the MIC -- and that might make a bit clearer
just why Obama was so protective of BP during the Gulf disaster.
No oil/no war --
It is impossible to say how all of this will compound and how rapidly Global Warming will
move now -- our scientists watching have been repeated in shock at the speed.
But, certainly, unless we are unable to hear and have lost all our common sense we must begin
to convert every car to electric -- solar batteries are available --- much new technology
has been suppressed. The government can subsidize the manufacture of electric cars --
it can subsidize the purchase prices -- but most of all we have to stop burning fossil fuels!
Meanwhile, also notice the news from Australia last week that their own Global Warming scientists
are under threat of their lives. Not difficult to think that the same thing has been happening
in America and everywhere -- as scientific information is suppressed and oil industry propaganda
is pushed.
For those who have never seen it before, here is the 1992 Wrold Scientists Warning to Humanity -- *
Dollar bills are meaningless -- always have been - but most especially when this much reality
hits us -- we need a complete culture change.
We are all threatened by capitalism because we are all labor.
Those who have gained control of our people's government think only in fascist terms.
Global Warming is becoming more severe now -- it should be a topic of conversation for every
American - every day --

I also understand that the real reason we all lose socks when we do laundry is global warming.
The planet has heated up so bad that one sock will melt or something.

3. Nonsense -- there is NO guarantee the earth will continue to turn ... Updated at 5:03 PM
Edited on Wed Jun-22-11 05:21 PM by defendandprotect
We have earthquakes moving the earth off it's axis --
FUKU by 3" --
We have increasing numbers of earthquakes and increasing severity of earthquakes --
which also generate volcanic activity --
and no one can say how this will all compound --
Again -- the dams and reservoirs our Army Corps of Engineers built are "impacting the
rotation of the earth" --
Nor do we have any real idea what damage the atomic era has done to our planet and
its systems -- Hiroshima, Nagasaki -- and atomic bombs exploded on land -- Bikini Islands --
in the oceans -- and underground! We were even nice enough to let the British test their
weapons at our facilities!!
Even more insanely, we exploded nuclear weapons in space -- !!
And we are no where near even beginning to take control of this threat --
it remains in the hands of suicidal corporatists/elites who control our MIC
and our natural resources -- and our people's government.

Source that?
And yes, the planet will continue to turn, with or without us.
I also hear if you put too many people on an island it may tip over.

24. New York Times ... Updated at 5:03 PM
probably almost 20 years ago now --
And you might have noted around that time the discussions began about
undoing the dams -- based on many reasons, of course -- including the
harm they were doing to the environment and fish -- etal.

There is one itty-bitty flaw in this DUmmies logic..
Most of the earthquakes as of late are centered in the oceans.. The oceans where all the water from the melting glaciers ends up. according to DUmmy logic, the increased pressure should be stopping those earthquakes.
Also, of the remaining earthquakes that aren't in the ocean, most are in regions where glaciers haven't existed for thousands of years.
And finally, most of the melt has come from the Arctic circle - there is no land to speak of there, so, the pressure from that ice is already accounted for and spread evenly throughout the ocean .( see : 'buoyancy' )

What the public has to understand is that the planet is in peril
I only had to read that far to know what the entire rant would be. It is an immutable rule, a theorem of semantics:
Any time the word "planet" is used, and the subject does not involve astronomy, the user is a wild-eyed moonbat, and you can safely ignore all the words that come after "planet".

Earthquakes aren't really weather generated. And if earthquakes happened because of hot temperatures, Las Vegas would no longer be on the map. It was 113 degrees here today.

Nope -- the DUmmy theory is that the mountains of ice that were sitting on the tops of volcanoes were acting as corks - keeping the lava in - now that the ice is gone, the lava will start to spew everywhere.. Seriously, they believe this.
-
Oh damn.
More of this excresence.
You know, back in 1938, New Deal scientists, climatologists, and academicians predicted it would take 100,000 years for the Dust Bowl to recover.
The Dust Bowl of the 1930s was in fact a big deal; it scoured the whole spinal cord of America, North Dakota-South Dakota-Nebraska-Kansas-Oklahoma-Texas.
It's been rated as the largest man-made ecological and environmental catastrophe in the history of the whole world. It was big; it was massive; it boggles the mind how enormous it was, dumping 1,280 cubic tons of mid-American dirt, for each U.S. citizen then around (circa 135,000,000 at the time), into the Gulf of Mexico.
It boggles the mind, how big the Dust Bowl was.
So all these professionals back in 1938 said it would take 100,000 years to recover; that the spinal column of America was doomed to be a sterile uninhabitable wasteland for at least a thousand centuries.
By 1942, four years later, the Dust Bowl was once again the breadbasket of America, and of course eminently useful for the war effort.
This was before government-financed land reclamation, which occurred after the second world war, during the late 1940s and into the 1950s; this recovery was all God and nature's doing. Man cannot destroy what God has made; man can only destroy man, nothing else.

Absolutely.
"Planet" is purely an astronomical term; "earth" refers to this globe in the scientific sense, and "world" refers to this globe in the sense of describing man and man-made things.
Every time franksolich sees "planet" used when "earth" or "world" is the accurate word, franksolich stops paying attention. There's no point in paying attention to idiots.

Global Warming is about HEATING up the atmosphere which brings chaotic weather --
droughts/floods, storms, hurricanes, cyclones, tornados -- and earthquakes.
Earthquakes in turn generate more volcanic activity.
Earthquakes are caused by this thing called plate tectonics. Plate tectonics is the movement of large fragments of the Earth's crust, driven by heat from the Earth's mantle and core. This heat is produced partly by radioactivity and partly by the heat of gravitational contraction.
In other words, FAIL!

Did you wear a bikini? :-D

Every time California has the worst drought in recorded history, which is every other year, it will take a decade for reservoir levels to recover.
But of course they do recover the following year, when California invariably has the worst rains in recorded history.
It's as predictable as the tornado warning sirens we hear every time a dark cloud drifts by.
The meteorology scam is the climatology scam's little brother.

No, I was at work all day. But I suppose I could have generated more sales that way.

We need more electric cars to use less fossil fuels? I guess the dummie thinks that electricity is generated by healing white light or unicorns on giant tread mills. :mental:

We're only up to 1960?!? Oh man, we haven't even got into the effects of all that fuel used by muscle cars, or the space program, or the bombs dropped in Vietnam.
The good news is that in 2023-24 we'll finally feel the effects of the 1973-74 oil embargo, so with all the gas lines at the time things should cool off a little bit. After that, watch out!!

As I recall, it was rather cold during the winters back in the 60's and 70's. 1977 stands out big time for me.
I was a Senior in HS. We went back to school the day after the Christmas break. That night, we had over a foot of snow, and temperatures never rose above freezing the entire month of January (this in in Virginia). Couple that with a coal miners strike and a natural gas shortage, and I spent the month milking cows and thawing water lines.
I finally graduated late June in 1977, almost 3 weeks later than normal.
Later that summer, we set 21 record high temperatures in August.

OK, so it took over 50 years to create the impending disaster, we have less than 20 years left and everything from internal combustion engines and dams is causing the problem.
Essentially she's saying we'd have to spend the next 10 years dismantling our entire civilization across the entire world and resort to living like the Amish.
...
If you've been thrown off the top of the Empire State Building try to enjoy the view.

Bush's fault.

1977 was a hell of a year for a lot of people. I remember it vividly.
Miskie, wait, what? Corks? Of ice? Stanching lava flow?
-
I see the radioactivity from Japan has finally reached the DUmp.
Thank God.
-
What the DUmmies has to understand is that the planet is in peril...
...when the inevitable asteroid hits the earth, snuffing out the human race in days.
And the Earth will still continue to exist.

You think I'm kidding -- I'm not, the primitives believe this;
Ice is extremely heavy—weighing about one ton per cubic meter—and glaciers are massive sheets of ice. When they are intact, glaciers exert enormous pressure on the portion of the Earth’s surface they cover. When glaciers begin to melt—as they are doing now at an increasingly rapid rate due to global warming—that pressure is reduced and eventually released.
Geologists say releasing that pressure on the Earth’s surface will cause all sorts of geologic reactions, such as earthquakes, tsunamis (caused by undersea earthquakes) and volcanic eruptions.
"What happens is the weight of this thick ice puts a lot of stress on the earth," said Patrick Wu, a geologist at the University of Alberta in Canada, in an interview with the Canadian Press. "The weight sort of suppresses the earthquakes, but when you melt the ice the earthquakes get triggered."

I don't think so - there would be more references to earlier days and simpler times - this is just straight-up moonbat.
