Title: Firefox 5
Post by: CG6468 on June 22, 2011, 01:40:45 PM: I just received a notification to upgrade Firefox to version 5. I did not do it.

Anyone have any input regarding this?

I'd hang loose for a bit on switching 5. 4 isn't completely stable (only mostly) yet. Maybe run the beta 5 and see what you think.

I'd be a bit suspicious of a major version number upgrade so soon after 4 was released , and hang back for a bit.

Seems strange. I stopped using FF because FF4 is just way too slow for our computer. I thought the OP meant FF4.

Has any other web browser released a newer version number shortly after releasing an already new version??

For you, yes. Let's see it get stable first. I'm running 5.0 now. But I'm used to errant shutdowns and errors and know how to either fix them or deal with them. So far, so good, except for the hot keys.... (I HATE "hot keys"!!)

I get the same damned message. I just click out of it.

I am thinking it has to be a conflict with add-ons, and have removed all add-ons except for Addblock and NoScript but it is still happening.

That could be your ISP, too

Thank you. I'll just wait until they get the bugs worked out of it - if ever.

I'll hold back till everybody else has had at least about 18 months to play with the newer versions.

I turn off 'automatic' updates by going to Tools > Options > Advanced > Update Tab > uncheck Firefox ... click ok.

That stops it from bugging me or doing it with out my say so. You can turn it back on at anytime.

Or just go to OldVersion.com (http://www.oldversion.com/Mozilla-Firefox.html) to pick any version you want. Thats what I do.

Thor's earlier comment about ISPs, though, made me think.

From my own personal individual experience, when there's a problem, it's not Firefox or Explorer or the web-site, but rather the internet service.

But I'm a dumbshit, Thor. I don't mind new things (you should KNOW that :lmao: ) but I don't like to "improve" something that works.

Just the reverse for me. I abandoned Safari and went to Firefox. We didn't like the lack of taskbars with Safari.

It's been too long for me to remember much about it, but in general I've found that cross-platform software (like Mac to PC) doesn't work too well.

I'm probably mistaken, though. :???:
