I went home for lunch, and my neighbor found a kitten stuck underneath the hood of his daughter's car. The thing will not come out, even for food.
:???: :???:

Poor little thing is probably terrified.
Maybe set a bowl of water just out from under the front of the car....or a plate of very smelly cat food. Then walk away.
Unless it's caught under there, it should come out for the food.
Call the fire department? on a non-emergency phone number!

I think the poor thing must be stuck under there. I came back to work & haven't heard if the kitty has come out yet. I was going to text my neighbor some suggestions, if he hasn't tried everything yet.

Hard to tell if he's stuck or not. Kittens are like babies....they cry because they can.

Is there an animal control/rescue in the area or maybe a shelter?
I would have suggested AAA, but they'd probably just send Bubba with a flatbed.

I guess it took over an hour, but the kitten finally emerged. Neighbor was actually going to call animal control.

I was going to suggest starting the car. It usually works one way or another. O-)

next time blow the horn
Yes.
I love kittens/cats. If the food thing didn't work, I'd go right for the horn. I'm glad the kitten got out safely. My mom's cat actually came from a lady who drove all the way into town with her cat and his sibling in the under body part/wheel base (can't remember) of her car without even knowing it. It took a co-worker on a smoke break to hear meowing coming from the woman's car. My mom kept one, obviously. He's the cutest orange tabby in the whole wide world.

Welding gloves (they go up your forearm pretty far) and grab the poor thing. They yowl and claw but come through it just fine. If you don't have welding gloves, maybe you have a pair of leather work gloves in your car (cloth does not protect well). Just move faster.
Being female, I have small hands and have drug more kittens out of ridiculous places in the engine compartment.

I used to have to grab my old yeloow tabby cat fron around the old chevys engine when I was a kid. She wold crawl up inside to get warm in winter. After a few times she stopped doing that and I never had to go after her again.

Garden hose.

All good suggestions, and will have to pass them on. Neighbor was out having his coffee this morning and told me the damn kitten climbed back in there and is meowing like crazy again.
-
Call Scoobie--she's got experience with kittens yowling in car engines.

we had one stuck between the engine and the firewall like this. she was bigger and we just had to wait for her to find her own way out
