Perhaps it's time for 'Day Without A Gay' on DU
I'm growing increasingly tired and frustrated with the seemingly endless discussion about whether LBGTs are treated fairly on DU. Everyone's made their point, and it seems highly unlikely that all but a few people will be swayed.
I'm tired of being told that we don't really matter, that we should just be patient. I'm also upset that our many supporters have stuck their necks out for us and accomplished relatively little in return.
It's clear that, at the federal level, the Democratic Party thinks they can win in 2012 without our support. Maybe that's the case; maybe not.
But right here at home, here on DU, I'm ready to take a stand. We aren't just a bunch of uppity homosexuals (and others and supporters); we're a key part of this community, and we contribute in ways that go far beyond the GLBT forum. (And, for some members, we go far beyond "antagonizing" and "disrupting.")
I'm prepared to pick a day and not post (or reply) on DU, and perhaps it's time for other LGBTs and supporters to join me. (Or maybe more than a day.) I have no delusions; DU will continue to run just fine without me and the rest of us. But I'm also at least slightly egotistical enough to believe that our absence would be at least noticed -- perhaps much more than some others might expect.
The tensions here continue to escalate, much more so in the past week, and I'm at my wit's end on what can be done about it. This is the best idea I've got; feel free to love it, hate it, or anything else. But something has to change.
I'm tired of being told that we don't really matter.....
Well, let franksolich add to the weariness of the whining primitive:
No, you really don't matter.
There's tens, perhaps hundreds, of millions in the world today going to bed hungry or ill, or who don't even have a bed to go to.
There's hundreds of millions, if not more than a billion-some, in the world today being oppressed by totalitarian socialists.
There's people dying all over the place, everywhere. And many of them before their time.
Compared with this vast humanity of suffering and persecution, no, you and your concerns really don't matter; in fact, you and your concerns are pretty stupid.

4. I was going to make some stupid joke about just taking a half-day because I'm bi.
But, yes. The homophobia and transphobia (and just rampant privilege and prejudice on every axis) here, and in the world at large, gets tiresome.

Wasn't there a "movie" called A Day Without a Mexican a couple years ago? The premise was that American society breaks down when all the illegal aliens suddenly disappear and there is no one left to pick our veggies, or wash dishes for minimum wage, mow the lawn, etc.:rotf: :lmao:
I wonder what vital service we would be deprived of if a bunch of fags suddenly vanished?I think Karin mentioned one in an earlier thread:
GOBUCKS, I'm trying to think of a service you're missing out on that Carl, BSS and I enjoy. Hmm. Hmm. Ummm. Just looking in the phone book, we have:
Human Rights Division of AIDS Discrimination
Wouldn't there be a bigger impact if they did a "Day Without A Mole" Day on DU?
A day without a mole would make Skins's island deader than a cemetery.
You are aware, of course, that it's the moles that stimulate the primitives. Without moles, the primitives would just lay there, comatose. The primitives need to be constantly prodded, as they're not going to do anything on their own.
Just out of curiosity frank, and of course this isn't scientific, in your opinion, of the active posters, what percentage would you think are moles? are we just talking 5%? or could it go to 50% or higher?
Oh, actually, it's probably down there, maybe more than 5%, but less than 10%.
And from all over the place, not only from freerepublic or our old home or here; from probably hundreds of different message-boards.
Remember, it doesn't take many decent and civilized people to outwit the primitives.
Sort of like the U.S. Marines--all one needs is a few good men, no more than that.
For some reason I thought it would be higher, but the ones there do a good job stirring up the hive.
