So did Murdoch's WSJ lie to us? AARP says no change to SS policy...
I went to the AARP web site and registered just so I could send them a flaming e-mail and blog post. One of the first stories I was greeted with was this...
WASHINGTON – AARP CEO A. Barry Rand offered the following statement in response to inaccurate media stories on the association’s policy on Social Security:
“Let me be clear – AARP is as committed as we’ve ever been to fighting to protect Social Security for today’s seniors and strengthening it for future generations. Contrary to the misleading characterization in a recent media story, AARP has not changed its position on Social Security.
“First, we are currently fighting some proposals in Washington to cut Social Security to reduce a deficit it did not cause. Social Security should not be used as a piggy bank to solve the nation’s deficit. Any changes to this lifeline program should happen in a separate, broader discussion and make retirement more secure for future generations, not less.
“Our focus has always been on the human impact of changes, not just the budget tables. Which is why, as we have done numerous times over the last several decades, AARP is engaging our volunteer Board to evaluate any proposed changes to Social Security to determine how each might – individually or in different combinations – impact the lives of current and future retirees given the constantly changing economic realities they face.

1. It's Fox in print, so the likelihood they lied is high.

2. Sounds like someone was lying about the AARP.
They seem pretty clear in their debunking of the story. I believe I'll listen to them, rather than the liar.

3. Wouldn't be the first time they lied
The right wing is doing all they can in the "fear and smear" department. If they can scare seniors, make them think democrats are the ones caving on SS and medicare, it won't matter if their statements are true or not, just as long as they can convince people it is! Right now republicans are in deep crap over the Ryan plan to cut medicare, they are doing everything they can to try and paint democrats into that same corner. If they can convince people democrats are wanting to "negotiate" on SS and medicare, they think they can get out of the hole they dug for themselves!
All we can hope for is that democrats stick to their guns and get out and fight any false information that the right wing media is putting out.
The Andy primitive's the one who, when the primitives a couple of years ago were discussing their disappointment with Scary Reid and Bela Pelosi, asked why the Big Zero just didn't fire them.

9. From the same explanation from AARP
“It has long been AARP’s policy that Social Security should be strengthened to provide adequate benefits and that it is sufficiently financed to ensure solvency with a stable trust fund for the next 75 years. It has also been a long held position that any changes would be phased in slowly, over time, and would not affect any current or near term beneficiaries"
Would not affect any current or near term beneficiaries but what about others? I see a few weasel words like current and "strengthen".

11. You're very right...lots of weasel words.
I'm not ready to take sides on this one. I can see where AARP left themselves lots of wiggle room here.

Well, the third-rated cartoon boy (on a staff of three), really has the AARP on tenterhooks now, doesn't he?
I can imagine the effect it's having on morale at their palatial headquarters.
But really, how can Pedro be surfing the DUmp at 2pm on a weekday afternoon? I'm pretty sure Mission Control doesn't have a night shift, so if he's still employed there, he's doing this on company time.
I sure hope there isn't a backlog of junk mail cartoons needing speech bubbles, while Pedro harrasses AARP and makes stupid DUmp posts.

AARP is a liberal organization.

A search of campaign contributions by AARP executives and employees reveals they overwhelmingly gave to Obama's campaign and Democrats during the 2008 election cycle – by a ratio of 14 workers to one.

2008 election cycle:

Republican Party: $871
Rudy Giuliani: $1,150

It's a good read.

I would have thought a ****ing weasel like you would have recognized your own language right off the bat, proving that even in the weasel world you are at the bottom of the IQ chart.

Sooner or later, the billionaire senior executives at Mission Control, sitting behind their custom-made teakwood desks, in their mahogany-panelled offices with the ten-foot-long credenzas and wet bars, their walls lined with the portraits of generations of junk mail moguls, behind which are hidden wall safes full of tightly bundled $100 bills and gold bars, are going to get tired of paying three cartoon boys to do the work of two. They will ask their IT boy to check on the internet activity of company computers on company time, and Pedro will then join TwixVoy, looking for someone to sponge off of in Portugal.

Well, by the way, when I was over on Skins's island some hours after I had found this, it now appears the AARP was in fact weaseling, at least according to three or four campfires on Skins's island.
Alas, poor Pedro Picasso!
