Kids Lemonade Stand At U.S. Open Fined $500 And Shut Down By Montgomery County Updated at 8:32 AM
BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) -- You can make a fortune selling parking spots outside the US Open, but don't even dream of setting up a lemonade stand.
A county inspector ordered the Marriott and Augustine kids to shut down the stand they set up on Persimmon Tree Rd., right next to Congressional. And after they allegedly ignored a couple of warnings, the inspector fined their parents $500.
"This gentleman from the county is now telling us because we don't have a vendors license, the kids won't be allowed to sell their lemonade," Carrie Marriott told us, her voice trembling.
The kids can't seem to understand it. "I don't agree, I think the county is wrong." "We're sending the money to charity."
It's like this, kid: you can't have a lemonade stand, but you can get an abortion when you get knocked up, and no one needs to know. Kind of evens out. (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=1314846&mesg_id=1314846)

1. Well, kids are not notorious for wiping well
I wouldn't want E. coli in my tummy. Why don't they sell sealed water and soda bottles?

6. Aren't we (DU) always saying .....
.... that businesses should be regulated? Aren't the business licensing laws, the sanitation regulations, the safety regs, the sales tax provisions, all there for reasons that we as a group heartily support?
And then we want special exceptions for every little case that comes along that yanks our little emotional strings. Geeeezzzz.
There you have it: sourpuss DUmmies so enamored of government control of everything that they can't see their way clear to a ****ing lemonade stand.
No wonder they can't get that small business drives this country.

Damn.
The "Sarah Ibarruri" primitive was one of those who promised to leave the U.S. if George Bush were re-elected.
That was in 2004.
And she's still here?
One wonders what's up with that.

Probably she owns a lemonade stand and is constantly getting put out of business by 7-year-olds with better business acumen.

I hadn't seen her for the longest time, on Skins's island.
So I reasonably assumed she'd packed up and left a long time ago.

Probably laying low, waiting for someone to post about the epidemic of kids shitting in lemonade.

Something tells me Sarah wouldn't like what goes on in the kitchens of a LOT of restaurants.

What the hell does that have to do with making lemonade, unless Sarah likes her lemons squeezed between buttcheeks?
Perhaps the dumbass meant, notorious for not washing their hands after said wipe.

I think it's strange she even types that out. Indicates a minor psychological flaw. Bitchslap to her for using the word t***y.

I'd shit in your Starbucks and call it crapaccino.
I'm guessing she opens doors with tissues and thinks sex is icky.

What a perfect metaphor for small business.
As I keep on saying, taxes and employee costs do not drive business out of the USA. Ridiculous and costly REGULATIONS with zealous bureaucrats enforcing them which drives business out of the country.

You should row over. Dreamer Tatum takes em on. :-)

15. Not as bad. However (and this might be the paralegal in me coming out)...
Whom do we sue if the caps were tampered with and we get something interesting in our bellies?

5. The kids need to learn an important lesson about 'free markets'. #1- They aren't free.
Free market competition is the bane of businesses. Kids selling $1 lemonade are going to out-compete the US Open selling a worse product for $5. So use the government to force them to buy a vendors license, which would probably cost more than they would ever make doing their lemonade stand.

12. Isn't child labor illegal?
Let's get real, it's really the parents selling the lemonade. They're hiding behind their children.

But they're all so supportive of the Las Vegas Leviathan, who hasn't wiped at all since 2002.

Oh please, it's the damn government that shut this down. NOT corporations. Kids selling lemonade. Like they've done for decades. But not when the left runs the show.

And what's with Old Hippie? Back in the day, wasn't it all "Fight the Man, man!" and "If it feels good, do it!" and "Don't oppress me, man!"
Now it's a prim "We approve of all government regulation."

Jeanette hasn't been gone that long.

I do believe that Sarah has an advanced degree and is either unemployable or has a minimum wage job.

Did she finally leave his useless ass?

It's those damned KKKapitalist KKKids they can't cant stand. Exploiting migrant farm labor to get their lemons, no doubt. The lemonade stand wasn't a union shop, either.

Speculation. He hasn't mentioned her in quite a spell.

I remember having kool-aid stands every summer when I was a kid, the government crushes kids dreams.

This is Maryland, and they are the worst. That other thread in GD, I think, about how the states rank from most free to least? New York was 50 but I think Maryland is much worse. You can't even plant a shrub if it strikes your fancy, without some town board bitches giving the OK, or more likely, NOT OK. I'm not touching Maryland with a ten mile pole.

You're not kidding, especially about MoCo! There's a reason we call it Loco MoCo, and it's not because it's full of crazies (which it is.)
Back in 2002, the town of Chevy Chase tried to pass an ordinance banning smoking within the town limits. They had already banned smoking in public (indoor) places, but they wanted to extend it to smoking in one's HOUSE or on one's property, in addition to public (outdoor) places. It was in effect for maybe a month or so before it was rescinded.
Maryland the Nannny State! (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2000/11/25/national/main252210.shtml)
Montgomery County is a wealthy, liberal county run by moonbats, so I'm not at all surprised about them shutting down the kids.
