Family Driven From Home by Hundreds of Snakes

An Idaho family was driven from their home and into bankruptcy by "hundreds and hundreds" of snakes that slithered inside the walls as they slept and left them and their children terrified.

The garter snakes were so prevalent that the ground around their home appeared to move, according to Ben and Amber Sessions. Ben Sessions killed 42 of the serpents in one day, but eventually gave up and abandoned the home they had bought in 2009.

"It was like living in one of those horror movies," Sessions, 31, told The Associated Press.

They bought the house aware of the snake situation, but they thought it was overblown. Yet everyone in and around the small town of Rexburg seemed to know about the "snake house.

But garter snakes are harmless to humans. And they'd have no mice or other vermin, either.

Garter snakes aren't exactly harmless, their bite can be painful and they can carry diseases.

I've had nightmares about being surrounded by snakes, which is weird because I'm not afraid of handling them.  :mental:

I hate them so much and have hated them since I can remember.  I hated them so much that my Mom gave in and told me I had a mongoose in my closet, just so I would sleep.

I hate them.

I think I would have stayed and fought.  Might have moved temporarily, but would have won in the end.

I'll take all the snakes I can get. They eliminate the chipmunk problem. (I killed 2 chipmunks yesterday and 1 today, but it keeps my shooting eye well tuned.)

I live in south FL and these snakes are harmless; well, to me...as compared to the rattlers, moccasins, boas and pythons that we find runnin' around here lol

I pick those lil' guys up all the time, those and black snakes, glass snakes... never been bit in my life...not yet
Dangerous, well that  depends... (http://www.recipesecrets.net/forums/general-chat/23526-garter-snakes-can-very-dangerous.html)

Interesting  is how and why these snakes chose that house....and the individuals were aware of this problem...why'd they buy?

They went to the house for what was supposed to be a steak fry but ended up a snake fry.  :p

I saw a story about the house you mentioned on TV. The problem with the snakes is that they put off some sort of awful stench. The foul smell even invaded their well water.

Garter snakes smell foul, especially when they get upset. They excrete a fluid out of their anus.

Exactly...snakes emit this odor, "musk" like a cute little skunk :D when they're threatened.  I'd probably ummm..yeah, my pants if I saw someone coming at me with a machete.

I don't think I would have just abandoned the house, I'd have probably burnt the sum-bitch to the foundation as well.

I Wish I had some garter snakes to turn the chipmunks' blood cold. I've shot 6 of them so far this year.
